Lorraine Heath was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England but soon after moved to Texas and was raised in Angleton, Texas.Being a daughter of a British model and an American dad, her parents met when her father was serving in the air force at Bovingdon. Lorraine grew up watching movies together with her mom which inspired her to be an author. She started writing while still at a very tender age. She acquired a Bachelor of Arts from Texas University. This proved to be the stepping stone for her successful career as a renowned author of emotional romantic novels and young adult novels. Her career began when she started by writing computer codes and training manuals for the IRS (International Revenue Service).
Although she did the work at the required standards, she alwaysfelt that something was missing. Being a fan of reading, every time she picked a novel she became immersed in it to the end. Among the novels she read was LaVyrle Spencer’s Morning Glory, this made her realize what she was missing by working for the IRS: villains, heroes, scoundrels, rebels and rogues. From that time she began writing novels, she has never looked back.Lorraine Heath finished her first novel titled Sweet Lullaby and sold it in 1993. Among the earliest book series she wrote was English Rogues in Texas series. The series contained the following books: A Rogue in Texas, Never Love a Cowboy and Never Marry a Cowboy. The book, A Rogue in Texas released on April 1999 talks about an illegitimate son of a British Duke by the name of Grayson Rhodes who moves to Texas in America to try and make his fortune.
While in Texas he becomes involved with a widow by the name of Abigail Westland. The sexual tension between the two characters begins from the moment the two set eyes on each other and grows until neither of them can assume it any longer. Besides the physical relationship, their emotional attachment also keeps growing. The couple encounter many challenges but they later end up together in a scene that has not only sensuality but emotional. The other book in the seriestitled Never Love a Cowboy was released on April 2000 and it talks about an exiled British nobleman by the name of Harrison Bainbridge in the town of Fortune, Texas who meets with a nice girl by the name of Jessye Kane. Although both the characters have cruel pasts whereby Harrison Bainbridge was abused by his mother and his father never wanted anything to do with him while Jessye Kane was led astray and had an affair that led to a painful experience, they bothend up together in spite of the challenges each of them face. They are able to heal one another bygiving each other solace. Both the two characters are introduced in the first book in the series, A Rogue in Texas.
Among the other series of the books she has written include: Daughters of Fortune series, Hard Loving series, London’s Great Lovers series, The Lost Lords among many others.Lorraine Heath mainly carries out the writing work late at night while listening to a CD of a thunderstorm this assists in narrowing her focus to write without any other distractions.Among the books that have won her an award is a novel entitled, Always To Remember. The novel won the RITA award in 1997.The `novel talks about Clayton Holland who is branded a deserter and imprisoned during the war for his refusal to pick a gun for the Confederacy. After returning home after the war he is given a coward’s welcome and he is shunned by everyone in the town including Meg Warner who lost her husband and three brothers in the war. When Clayton is given a job to sculpt a monument in honor of the fallen heroes of the town he slowly changes Meg’s perception of him as she oversees the work being carried out and they end up together. The story is about forgiveness of wrongs both perceived and real. Her inspiration for the novel was a documentary from PBS special on the Civil War where she got the idea from a comment made about men who were from the same town serving in the sameunit hence if a unit was wiped out so far, there would be no men to return to the town. She had the idea that what if only one man returned and the people thought he was a coward. From this Lorraine Heath was able to build her story to an award winning novel.
She has the tendency of keeping her writing personas separate because it helps her in changing the mental shift from one character to another in the different novels that she has written. Amongthe authors who influenced her writing include: Richelle Mead, Sophie Jordan, Marissa Meyer, but Catherine Clark is the most influential to her since from her books is where she got her flavoring for her young adult novels and because she enjoyed her stories so much since they had a deep emotional feature and there was deft characterization and detail to history and mastery of the small moments.Among the awards and receptions she has received, in 1996 she was awarded Romantic Times Career Achievement Award in the category of American Historical Romance, in 1997 she was awarded Romance writers of America (RITA) award for her best short historical romance book, Always To Remember, in 2006 she was awarded Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Award for Best British Isles Historical Romance for the novel Promise Me Forever. Recently in 2014, she won Romantic Time Reviewers Choice award for Historical Romance of the year for the novel Once More, My Darling Rogue. Lorraine Heath still writes together with her son by the name of J. A. London. She also writes popular contemporary, historical and paranormal novels under the names of Rachel Hawthorne and Jade Parker. Her dual nationality from a British mother and an American father has given heran opportunity to weave both heritages in her novels.
