Something Borrowed
First published in 2016, Something Borrowed is a foe-lovers jilted bride narrative with plenty of laughs and loveable main and supporting characters.

We meet Chloe Cassidy, a wedding planner who’s been through a lot in her love life. She was dumped at the alter by a fiancé, went a little crazy, and as a result, she became the talk of the town.
Three months down the line, the wounds are still fresh, her business is taking a turn for the worst, and even worse has a depressed mother and a widowed sister to support. This can be quite overwhelming for a heartbroken woman.

Soon enough, she learns that her ex-lover’s best man, Vaughn Brooks, has opened a restaurant just across the street. And when she thoughts things couldn’t get any worse, she’s met with shock when she learns that her ex-bridesmaid is pregnant and she and Vaughn are invited to the wedding. As anyone would have done, Chloe too announces that she’s bringing her better half to the wedding, and this marks the beginning of a disastrous journey dating scary lads she meets on a dating website.

As fate would have it, Chloe ends up assisting Vaughn with running his business, and they too soon begin enjoying each other’s company. Things can’t get serious, right? Well, brace yourself for an epic romantic ride as Chloe races against time to find a man who’ll not only love her but also be her better half at the wedding.

Louisa George is a master of romantic storytelling. she possesses a good writing style that’s not only understandable but also one that will keep you glued to the pages. The tone and pacing are finely tuned, and the humor sprinkled across the paragrahps helps give the story a bubbly vibe transitioning low moments seamlessly and creating a perfect balance for the romance.

You will fall in love with the protagonist even though, at times, she makes decisions that will make you want to shake some sense into her. If you’ve been through the ups and downs of love life like most of us, you will definitely relate which Chloe on a personal level in many ways.

Chloe getting abandoned at the altar is something that’s truly devastating. But what the author portrays is more of anger than sorrow, which is quite okay because it would have been too hard to come back to something like that from the perspective of the reader at the beginning. However, Louisa nicely balances the anger with sadness and sprinkles humor allowing the reader to get to know Chloe and relate with her and hate anyone who had anything to do with her getting betrayed at the altar.

Backstage with Her Ex
They say that every woman on this Earth has come across a man so different from her and her goals in life that getting involved with the man would surely be her downfall; on the other hand, resisting such a bad boy is the next hardest thing and in most cases, they fall in love at the first contact.

But as we know it, after temptation comes, the journey of seeking deeper meaning and the fun time spent with the bad boy ends up in a relationship. It is a kind of relationship that any woman can sense will come crashing down but still hold on to the love, that is, if there’s no secret to hide and the man sticks long enough.

That’s the same predicament our character Sasha finds herself in. Years ago, she met a bad boy named Nate, and the two had something so strong until the day he left and never looked back, leaving her completely heartbroken.

Now working as a teacher, she gets the chance to help others shine through the school choir. But in order to help them achieve their dreams, she needs to reach out to her ex-lover turned rocker.

But when she reaches out to him, Nate agrees to help her with whatever she needs, but on one condition, they will take up where they left off. But Sasha is the same insecure woman, and she’s hiding a secret that prevents her from getting entangled and getting personal, while Nate is the same man he used to be, always running away when he suspects trouble.

Will their relationship work again when all they have is chemistry and skeletons in their closets?

Louisa George does a fantastic job in crafting both the heroine and the hero. Sasha is well woven, and you will love the fact that the author strongly linked her to real life in such a way that most women are straight-laced on the outside just because they need to wand off the advances of men since most often have a secret that will prevent them from having a normal relationship. Sasha has a secret, and she believes that acting uptight will prevent men from making advances hence protecting her secret.

Despite Sasha’s shortcomings, you will enjoy how the author allows Nate to drive Sash from the stage, allowing her true star to shine. On the other hand, Nate has his own secret that he doesn’t want the world to know, and this makes him real, allowing the male reader to connect with him.

Lastly, Backstage with her ex boasts fantastic backdrop settings, and the dialogue is flirty, sexy, passionate, fun, and playful. Louisa George allows the reader to have personal emotional conversations, allowing you to know more about the secrets kept such that when they are finally revealed, it will bring the perspective of both characters as well as their actions.
