The Love At Stake series is a series of paranormal romance novels written by the well known American author Kerrelyn Sparks. There are 17 novels in the series in total which have been published between the years 2005 and 2014. All the novels of the series featured as the USA Today bestseller novels. Author Kerrelyn Sparks was also able to be listed as The New York Times Bestseller author with the 4th book of the series. Each novel of the series is set in a dangerous and hilarious world dwelled by a number of modern day vampires. The storylines of the series show numerous vampire cable channels existing in the paranormal world. The vampires in the series also have a magazine of their own called as Live with the Undead. They also seem to have dental emergencies just like the mortal people of their world. The introduction of the main characters of the first novel takes place in the form of Shanna Whelan and Roman Draganesti. Shanna Whelan is described by the author as a mortal living being in the paranormal world and a professional dentist. While Roman Draganesti is depicted as an undead vampire with a smoldering personality. When the two come in contact with each other, their lives turn absolutely batty.

The first novel of the Love At Stake series was published in the year 2005 by the Avon Books publishing house. It was titled as ‘How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire’ and introduced the central characters of Roman Draganesti and Shanna Whelan. The plot of this novel is set in New York City, New York, United States, during the time of the year 2005. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, the author introduces one of the primary characters named Roman Draganesti as a handsome, charming and rich person, but is actually a vampire. When he sinks his teeth into something very hard while hunting his prey, Roman loses one his fangs. After losing his fang tooth he realizes that he should not have tried doing it as it cost him heavily. Now, Roman desperately tries to find a dentist within the time period of one night and get his fang fixed, before it is too late. If he is not able to mend his lost fang by a dentist in one night, he will lose his natural ability to heal the wound. As a result, he will be left permanently without one of his fangs. This way, Roman Draganesti will have to live the rest of his life as a lopsided vampire. He fears that he might have to live up to the eternity with his lopsided condition which will be too shameful for a vampire like him. On the other hand, the other primary character of the series, Shanna Whelan gets introduced soon as a professional dentist. It seems that things are not going well enough in her life as she faces many troubles in her life being a mortal living being among the majority of vampire dwellers in her locality.

On one occasion, Shanna is involved in a difficult situation after seeing a brutal murder at the hands of an angry mob. She somehow manages to run away from the crime scene, but it seems that the mob has targeted her as the next victim in their hit list. Also, even though she has managed to become a professional dentist, she seems to be too much afraid of the sight of blood. Due to this, her career as a dentist seems to be nothing but over. When she is about to be assassinated by the mob, she gets saved by Roman Draganesti who seems to be the perfect man for her. Shanna begins to think that she has fins the perfect man who can fulfill her life with extreme love and care, and at the same time save her from getting killed by the vampires around her. But, little did she know that Roman himself was a vampire. When she sees his missing fang, she realizes that her views about Roman were not correct. However, she does not let the attraction between them fade away. Both of them try to keep it hot and immediate as long as it can. Now, when Roman Draganesti asks Shanna Whelan to fix his fang, it is to be seen whether she will be able to overcome her fear of blood and give the required treatment to Roman before he loses his fang permanently?. And if she is able to succeed in it, whether Roman will use his fang on her as he is also a vampire, and if he does it, who is going to save Shanna Whelan from the vampire who saved her life from the other vampires previously?. This contrasting situation is the highlight of the novel and has helped author Kerrelyn Sparks to fetch numerous readers and fans all over the world.

The second novel of the Love At Stake series was published by the Avon Books publishing house in the year 2006. It was called as ‘Vamps and the City’ and featured the main characters in the form of Darcy Newhart and Austin Erickson. The plot of the novel is once again set in New York, United States and introduces Darcy Newhart as the director of a television show and Austin Erickson as a vampire slayer. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Darcy goes on to direct a television show involving the vampires and the mortals, who compete with each other to become the sexiest man living on Earth. With the new show, she hopes that her career will be back on track and have a life different from the routine vampire harem. Being technically dead, she thinks that she can work out things herself, if she does not let a mortal win the competition. She seems to be extremely determined with her intention until she sees a contestant named Austin and gets distracted by him. Austin Erickson is a vampire slayer and is participating in the competition to slay the ones who are participating against him. He also keeps a track of the director Darcy Newhart. After seeing her, he begins to fall for her beauty. He had never wanted to have a woman in his life as desperately as this time, and he wins her into his life, he might lose his soul. But, it does not really matter to him if he gets the chance to have an eternity of passionate and hot love with Darcy Newhart.

   I have not only read each Love At Stakes book NUMEROUS TIMES, I also own each book in order to be able to read and re-read each book. My only problem is “I WANT MORE”. I absolutely love this series and would love for you to continue with the series. I know that you won’t but I really wish you would. Thank you. Dana Hunt
