When one day happens and one extraordinary event goes down, it might change the lives of some people who live in a certain area for good. It’s a regular Saturday morning in 1996 and the residents of Nightingale Point have woken up to their regular lives and their regular worries.
Mary has the type of secret life that people do not know about. Not even Malachi and Tristan, who are the two brothers that she has promised that she would look after. Malachi has had to grow up much too quickly. He’s been looking after Tristan and dealing with a broken heart and all together it is making him feel much older than just 21 years.
For his part, Tristan really wishes that Malachi would give up his crush on Pamela. He’s falling in with a bad crowd and that’s happening without Malachi there to help to keep him straight. Meanwhile, Elvis is doing his best to try and remember the instructions given to him by his care worker, but it’s difficult as sometimes he does get confused and forgets things as a result.
Pamela really wants to go back to Malachi. It’s not going to be easy though because her father is overprotective and has locked her in. Even though she wants to go to him, it soon becomes clear that when it comes to this situation, there’s no way out.
It is a day just like any other day but then something completely unique happens. The sun goes down and once it does Nightingale Point is completely changed. Somehow though all of the darkness the residents must find a way to look within and go back not only to the light but to each other. Can they find the lightness within or are they doomed to the dark? Read this scintillating novel from Luan Goldie to follow along with every word and find out.
Between Yesterday & Tomorrow is a 2026 novel by Luan Goldie. If you’ve been looking for a new book to read on your own or with your book club, this uplifting novel might be the perfect selection. For Zoe, it felt like when she went through a period of intense loss, it was like she lost a part of herself. When she ends up going back to work she finds that everyone is walking carefully around her while also hoping that she has returned to being her old self again. Despite wanting to feel that she is the same person that she always was, she knows that she has changed deep down and that things might not ever be the same again.
Zoe understands that she is never going to go back to being the carefree party girl that she was before all of this happened. When she meets Cian, her charismatic colleague who is working from home thanks to a bad climbing accident that has left him immobile for the moment, it seems like she has finally found some type of escape or something to distract her from her grief.
The two hit it off and are suddenly spending a lot of time with each other. They spend the entire summer doing their best to take shelter from the heat wave as they argue about Studio Ghibli and share vulnerable moments together. Suddenly her mind is not on her loss the way that it constantly was before.
Their friendship starts off slow but strong, and quickly grows into something deeper than that. As Cian grapples with his restless spirit and Zoe holds everyone at arm’s length, it seems like there is an endless list of reasons when it comes to motivation for them to slow this thing up and maybe even pause it for good.
Zoe has to make a choice. She can either go back into her shell and do what she can to stick to the safety of what she knows. Or she can put it all on the line and risk all of it by taking a leap of faith into something that she has no idea will work out. Is Cian the type of person that could be the one for her? Will turning him down now mean that ultimately they are not together in the future?
