Lucy Banks is a paranormal fiction author from Devon. She was born in rural Hertfordshire but as an adult, she got married and now lives with her family in the wildlands of Devon. She always loved reading and spend a lot of time prowling car boot sales and lurking in libraries to find books to satisfy her craving for a good story and to add to her collection. While many authors may be classified as bookworms, she loves to call herself a book python given how many books she has in her house. She has asserted that almost every available space in her house has stacks of literary works each of which she has read at least twice. Her regular forays into the realms of fiction as a child and young teen only increased her hunger and she soon tried to quench that thirst through other avenues such as writing. After she had been teaching English literature to students for a few years, she decided to become a copywriter and even set up a copywriting company. As such, she turned her love for writing into a full-time career as a copywriter, editor of web content for businesses. She published her debut novel “The Case of the Green-dressed Ghost” in 2017.

Banks was always a compulsive writer and, in an interview, asserted that she still has diaries from the time she was nine. Over time, this turned into a desire to write novels and she began penning a few manuscripts though the first ones were not of very good quality. In fact, some of the manuscripts she wrote as a twenty-year-old were pretty bad though things have certainly improved since then. While she had always desired to become a professional author, she did not have the skills needed and felt that it was taking too long and hence she decided to find something else to do in the meantime. When she got her first child, she learned to write copy and used her creativity to write content for social media and websites of a wide variety of organizations. Working freelance, she wrote a ton of articles and other content for organizations that she would later set up her own company. Lucy’s first break came in 2016 when she was the winner of the “A New Night Before Christmas” competition by Amazon. During this time, her house had been riddled with slugs and they would come out of the floorboards every winter. One day she notices that a particularly big one had left a pretty pattern on her rug that reflected light from the sunshine filtering into the room. It occurred to her that even the rather unattractive and slimy slug can produce something of beauty and idea for the story for the competition was born.

Lucy Banks published her first novel “The Case of the Green Dressed Ghost” in 2017. Publishers Weekly called the novel “Ghostbusters with a British accent.” Lucy was brought up in a fairly large house and many people in her community loved to call it haunted. As such, when she set out to write her novels, she wanted to pen something that normalized the paranormal since that is what she deemed as normal. Dr. Ribero the lead character of the Dr. Ribero’s Agency of the Supernatural series was conceived while she was attending a writing class though he was originally investigating burglary rather than supernatural spirits. Since she has a love for the occult, her office is full of paranormal books that she used for her research. While she believes her friends think her a total weirdo, she found great fun in diving into the occultic works and reading about little known spirits. She also haunted the Exeter public library which had a ton of books with information about the locality. Many of Banks’s novels in the Ribero series are thus set in the South West England locale. As for her inspiration, she cites the likes of JK Rowling, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and Margaret Atwood. She has always been blown away by their capacity to create captivating, believable and immersive worlds that draw in their readers, which is something she always tries to do.

Lucy Banks’s “Case of the Green-Dressed Ghost” is a compelling read full of intrigue. Kester Lanner’s mother is recently deceased and her dying request to him was that he should find a certain Dr. Ribero. Following his mother’s wishes, he tracks down the doctor who is living in an ancient dilapidated building. Kester is a lovable wuss and the prospect of investigating the building is not something he is looking forward to though he knows Ribero is in there. But he must be true to his mother’s dying wishes and hence he psyches himself and ventures into the building to find what he thought belonged only in the realm of fiction. The people he finds inside hunt banshees, ghosts and all manner of ghouls. He also learns that the enigmatic Dr. Ribero is the father he never knew. Kester is now in the world of the paranormal and he is discovering and watching as well. He has never been a confident person but still, he becomes one of the members of the weird folks in Ribero’s building. It is not long before he learns that he has a superpower so rare that he becomes invaluable in helping his new friends capture paranormal creatures. But he is still scared off his pants every time they go on the hunt.

Banks’s “The Case of the Deadly Doppelganger” opens a few months after Kester Lanner cast out an angry ghost but this action had not helped the fortunes of the Dr. Ribero Supernatural agency. The future is looking pretty grim but then they get a lifeline contract though it comes with something they would rather not have had to deal with. They have to share the work with Larry Higgin their sworn rival. They are desperate for work and take up the assignment that involves investigating the cause of the death of elderly people in Lyme Regis by the sea. There seems to be a link between the mysterious and gruesome deaths as all the dead see a double image of themselves as they are taking their last breath. The teams believe they may be dealing with a doppelganger that is not satisfied with just forecasting deaths but enjoys killing them as well. The victims also seem to be connected to an ancient gravesite and this makes the team believe that they may have disturbed a ghost more powerful than what they can handle. It is clear that unless they stop their infighting and rivalry and effectively combine forces, they are never going to get rid of the spirit.

Lucy Banks’s “The Case of the Hidden Daemon” sees the Dr. Ribero Agency of the Supernatural still struggling to find a solution to a deadly doppelganger killer. This time around, there is more intrigue as they have to also deal with a formidable though old daemon that has teamed up with a cult and inhabited several persons and is now out looking for its next victim. Banks uses anagrams to reveal the identity of the daemon, his motivations, and plans. He is quite a tough character and it takes a combination of the most unlikely characters from both agencies to figure out the code to break him. Kester who is growing in confidence steps up in this novel to solve several clues while also dealing with a budding romance with Anya the librarian. Anya had gotten herself mixed up with some bad characters and it is now up to Kester to protect her even while he is navigating the pitfalls of a first relationship.
