THE WISHING WELL CURSE — THE SPIRIT OF DESTINY BOOK 1 is one of the series of Ms. Donovan’s Fantasy stories with a Christian influence. Ezekiel Clay has just the worst day of his life. All in one day, he dropped out of EMT school with one semester left- before he failed out, he caught his girlfriend rolling in the grass with some other guy so he’s moving out of her place, gets a speeding ticket, gets laid off his job, and to top it off, he sees a car spin out, and go rolling into a mucky ditch.

His EMT training kicks in and he dives under the muck and he struggles but finally gets the guy out and on land. The guy looks familiar but Zeke does’t have time to ponder who he is. The guy isn’t breathing so Zeke starts CPR.

Another driver stops and goes to call 911. The ambulance comes and Zeke learns the guy’s name. He just saved the life of the guy his very freshly-exed-girlfriend was rolling in the grass with. Now Zeke thinks God hates him for sure.

A certified letter can give almost anyone the chills. Usually bad news, Zeke is hoping he’s in for good news. His luck may be changing by inheriting what might be a fortune. He’s confused; he has to break a curse and help true love. Is this a fairy tale or a cruel joke?

He doesn’t know who to trust. The great-nephew? The pastor who wears leather and rides a Harley? The attorney who is an Apache Indian? And there are Ghosts.

Wendy’s day was hectic, as usual. As a full-time student of orthopedic nursing, she had her hands full. She just wants a cup of coffee so she can get to school.

Between her heavy nursing school schedule, working, and therapy, she was tired, stressed, and dealing with too much pain. She loved her life with the exception of still recovering from the injury she sustained two Christmases ago when she took a horrific tumble on the slopes. Fortunately the injury was mostly limited to a severe leg fracture.

The doctors told her she would walk again but have chronic pain from it. She was taught meditation techniques to help with the pain but when your life is a whirlwind it’s difficult to wind down enough for the process to sit and breathe.

She’s nearly through school- just another semester and the state test. Wendy loves her work at the hospital as a CNA. The nurses there treat her like a true professional by allowing her to observe and sometimes assist in procedures the rank and file CNAs never do. They know she is working hard to be one of them and they are so encouraging.

Now she’s trying to get some caffeine but the pain in her leg won’t let up. A hard bump into the sweet busboy sent shock waves of pain down her leg and up to her brain. At this moment Wendy is so fazed she can’t even order her usual coffee. Looking at the barista, new to her, she wasn’t expecting him to be so good looking. Good looking to the point of distraction.

Glancing at his name tag, after she tore her eyes away from his devastating aqua-blue eyes, Dillon was ready to serve. Her usual order could not, would not come to mind. Mumbling, she orders a cappuccino. Trying to pay was an exercise in futility and embarrassment. Her pin number wouldn’t come to her. Tossing him a $5 bill, she turned to find a table to study and take a few minutes to breathe and meditate.

Sipping her coffee, something on her cup catches her eye. Looking closer, a message above the sleeve slowly reveals itself. It was like the secret messages she wrote as a kid. Was a heat sensitive pen used on her cup.

“I’m…broken…without…you.” Did Dillon write this on her cup? What does it mean? What was Dillon playing at? He looks familiar. Was he broken too?

Sarah Whitehead is far too busy running her own business to think about romance. That’s ironic in that in her free time she is attempting to write romance stories. They are popular and if she can get one done and printed it will be a huge help with her financial situation.

A woman owning a business is an oddity but where she has her forty-eight square foot space, devoted to selling typewriters. This tunnel under Main Street in Pueblo, Colorado is nicknamed “Skirt Alley” due to all the ladies who own businesses as well. A bicycle shop and watch repair shop were among her comrades; who watched out for each other.

Sarah is hard at work, at one of her typewriters, trying to churn out a story of romance. It’s not an easy feat due to not having much personal experience in the subject at hand. Looking up at the tinkle of the bell, she’s confused to see a tall, lanky, very dirty cowboy; decidedly not her usual clientele. He looks as uncomfortable to be in her shop as she is surprised.

Looking over her stock of typewriters set out on tables in the cozy space, “I need one of them new-fangled ‘typerators’.” As he looked at her, his chocolate brown eyes seemed to soften and relax a little. She knew she could help him purchase that new “typerator”.

Lynn Donovan lives in Colorado and is an author, playwright, director, and a weekly radio co-host of “Write Time Radio”. She has several grown children, a darling brood of grand babies, and is guardian to her little sister, LeeAnn, who was born blind and deaf. Lynn says she can sign but only in “ LeeAnn-ese”.

Ms. Donovan is a prolific writer of many various fiction genres including paranormal, contemporary romance, and time travel. Her writing is clean, fun, and funky.
