Lynn Kurland is regarded as one of the best-selling American author of all time. Her novels are mainly about fantasy romance, historical and time travel. It is important to note that the characters she mostly writes about are from three extended families namely Macleod, McKinnon and de Piaget. What sets her apart from other romance novel authors is that her love scenes are not quite explicit. She prefers writing about romance most of the time because over the years she read numerous love stories, but she felt that she had not had enough of the love stories. Her writing actually proves her love for love stories because her novels do quite well in the market.
Early and personal life
Her passion for writing began when she was only five while living in Hawaii. At a young age, she wrote a series of novellas called Clinton’s Troubles. The series of short stories talked about a young man who had gone through lots of trouble just as the title suggests. Shortly after Lynn moved to mainland U.S and decided to put writing on hold as she concentrated on training in classical music. However, she still loved reading and fell in love with romance novels while in college. She came across many romance novels and was so much into such books. During high school, she could spare time for Tolkien, Barbra Cartland and Mad Magazine. This prompted her to write her novel where she puts in romance and a little fantasy. Besides writing, she is a classical musician and really enjoys singing in public. She can play cello in a quartet or the piano. She is married with kids and lives with her family in Pacific Northwest
How she began her writing career
Her first novel Stardust of Yesterday got published in 1996 and it did so well that it saw her win two RITA Awards. The novel talked about the de Piaget family. Lynn Kurland still writes to date and boasts of 29 full length novels, a regular schedule of a fantasy novel released every January and time-travel novel released every April. Besides that she published eight novellas that won her a RITA Award too. In all of her novels there is a way the characters’ lives intertwine. This is a major skill that has seen her publish so many novels that are loved by many. However, her stories are rarely published in chronological order for instance, heroes or heroines from previous books will appear in other titles that follow. She mainly gets back and forth to generations in her writing so you will get the family tree in her books that follow. Her best genres are fantasy and romance and she always blends that in her writing.
Star of the Morning
This is the first book by Lynn Kurland in the series a Novel of the Nine Kingdoms and it was published in December 2010. In this book, Neroche’s Kingdom is faced with darkness of a wicked Black Mage. Miach and Adhemar are searching for a person who can push back the black magic tide that is a threat to their kingdom and Morgan is not aware of this. One of them falls in love with Morgan as the story unfolds. It is mainly a romantic tale of adventure and magic with lots of fantasy too.
The Mage’s Daughter
This is the second book in the series a Novel of the Nine Kingdoms. It mainly talks about a female mercenary who has to fight for her life and the only man who is capable of saving her. The kingdom is faced with darkness and Neroche is faced with assault by a magic that took away all powers of the king and let out nightmarish creatures. In this war of evil Morgan of Melksham has to fight for her life and decide on which fate to choose. The first fate is that of being an ordinary shieldmaiden and the second is her heritage as eleven princess. On the other hand Miach of Neroche has to choose between demands of his responsibilities and his heart’s desires. He is actually willing to rescue Morgan at the expense of his own kingdom.
