Lysa Terkeurst is a self help, Chritian, religion and spirituality author best known as the president of “Proverbs 31 Ministries.” The New York Times bestselling author of “Uninvited” has published her works in several publications including CNN Online and Focus on the Family. She also won the Champions of Faith Award for her work promoting Christian fiction. She has also been a leading voice in the Christian Community and has made appearances on the Today Show. Lysa also features as a keynote speaker in more than 40 events across the US and Canada including the “Catalyst Leadership Conference” and the “Women of Joy Conferences.” She is also the host of the “She Speaks Conference,” which is held every year to help women acquire the tools to be used in pursuing their calling in writing and speaking. Lysa was a married woman with five grown children and together with Art her husband, they lived in Charlotte North Carolina. They would spend a lot of time up in the solace of their mountain home until the children moved away.

One of the most impactful moments of Lysa Terkeurst’s life was when her marriage broke down due to substance abuse and infidelity from her husband. After more than three decades of marriage, she had to deal with the pain of heartbreak. She struggled to heal and walked the lonely path of restoration so that she could be an example to other women. It was during this time that she also got a cancer diagnosis and questioned her faith asking why God would allow so much suffering into her life. Her pillow has soaked its fair share of tears but she has also asserted that she has seen God work in astounding ways. This has enhanced her faith and she usually goes to bed each day thankful for God’s faithfulness for the day gone. She often wishes to wish some bad things away but knows that trusting God is even better as she can then experience his faithfulness.

Lysa Terkeust is passionate about reading the word of God and then teaching other people the lessons that God has imparted into her. Unlike most preachers, she is never a preachy personality but rather a simple girl that speaks hope to other people even as she has her own struggles. Bringing the Scriptures to life by making them practical for everyday life makes a lot of difference to people, which is why she has dedicated her life to writing and speaking. For her listeners or readers that need some depth to their bible study, she has extensive studies on different subjects from marriage, to family life, parenting and the Christian walk from both the old and new testament. She also disseminates practical information through inspirational novels that she has now been writing for several years. Reading her novels, readers will learn, laugh, shed a tear or two sigh with relief and experience the hope and love that comes from studying the word of God. The only regret is that the talks and novels usually have to come to an end.

In Lysa Terkeurst’s “Uninvited” she shares her experiences from rejection. She has always been seen as the woman with a perfect life even though she had experienced painful abandonment from her father as a child. She writes about how to examine the roots of rejection and how this can affect future relationships with other people and God poisoning them from the inside out. With refreshing wit, gut honest vulnerability, and biblical depth, she helps her readers to stop feeling rejected as even when they are overlooked by other people God has plans for them. She asserts that people need to embrace God fearing ways of processing rejection rather than falling apart or letting the actions of others have such a huge impact on how they choose to live. Lysa teaches people how to pray to restore their confidence and steady their souls when times get tough. She also teaches people how to overcome the fears that fuel insecurities by tapping into the secrets of belonging. The work is a reminder that everyone deserves love that is never shaken or tarnished, a love that does not uninvite nor reject.

Lysa Terkeust’s “It’s Not Supposed to be This Way” asserts that life is often very much unlike what we expected or hoped for. Some events will completely shatter us while others will catch us off guard. They will leave us disillusioned and disappointed leaving us to wonder about the reality of God’s goodness. While Terkeurst understands this she asserts that some of the rejection and disappointment can be divine fate that we need to experience in the journey towards a better relationship with God. In this work, the author invites her readers into her journey of honest humor, faith, vulnerability, and grit. She asks that people not allow the anxiety of disappointment but rather learn how to process painful situations and unmet expectations. There is a need to train ourselves to deal with the common tactics the enemy uses which will help the Christian deal with uncertain outcomes and unsettling relationships. Christians also have to understand and embrace trusting in God and being steadfast even when they feel they have more than they can handle. The big shift needed is to learn that God is preparing and protecting us rather than being an unfair and cruel master. Lysa also teaches her readers on how to help and encourage friends that are going through hard times.

Lysa Terkeust’s “The Best Yes” is not a work that tells its readers how to plan their schedules so that they can be better jugglers. It is also not a treatise in how to reduce and cut down your schedule to nothing so that you can experience the joys of simplicity. Rather, it is a work about wholeheartedness and focus on protecting one’s time from the endless clamour for attention from things that do not add value. Lysa does not assert that we need to reject requests simply because we feel busy and need to have some alone time. Rather people need to make their walk with God a priority which is what makes hearing and listening to his voice more intuitive. For the Martha kind of girl that needs to serve by orchestrating and organizing, this is a great work that reminds almost every Christian not to lose the quiet moments of learning, reverence and worship in tedium. The novel also offers practical advice on how to prepare for such times and how one can use them to direct the time spent on activities God has called them to do.

    Lysa,

I walked away from my 35-year marriage on the eve of our anniversary. For 35 years well-meaning Christians quoted scriptures and encouraged me to keep working on being a faithful christian and a better life. My husband was an alcoholic and a bitter, hateful, and emotionally abusive man from the moment we met. I came to terms with the little amount of self esteem that I possessed which lead me to believe that he loved me. Even though it has been almost 12 years since that fateful night I left, I still have periodic pangs of pain. Not for him, but for what I had hoped would be and how my children have suffered. Your book, “Good Boundaries and Goodbyes,” offered me encouragement and confirmation that my choice was right. I would say that I wish I had made the choice long ago, I can’t do that because I can’t predict the future. But I’m glad I finally did and I appreciate your book. I’m sure it will help people who are stuck as I was and will hopefully help them make a good decision long before I did.
