The sequel came out shortly after and Trow wrote several novels in the series. The seventeenth installment of the series came out in 2014. The first book in the Lestrade series is titled The Adventures of Inspector Lestrade. In this exciting debut story, readers get to meet the main character and inspector for the first time.
The setting is the year 1891. The city is known as London. The people have been going through a lot lately as it appears that the entire population is terrorized by the presence of a wild serial killer in their midst. They have not a clue who it could be and so everyone is suspect and every step in an alleyway is hurried, lest they get killed by the famed killer known as Jack the Ripper.
London is reeling from the murders and the horror of the gruesome deaths. Everyone in the city knows about these murders and they are well aware that the homicides are as of yet unsolved. Jack the Ripper is tearing the city apart, and the authorities know that they need to do their best to solve these awful crimes and get a menace off of the street and locked up for good.
Inspector Sholto Lestrade is the person that is ultimately called in and assigned to the case. He goes out to investigate at Isle of Wight. It is there that an unusual corpse has been found in Shanklin Cline, all walled up.
This inspector is doing whatever he can to try and crack this case. As he goes from the bar to the ball room and all over Europe it seems, he is doing whatever he can to catch this infamous killer before he strikes again. Can the inspector do it or will he fail to catch this notorious murderer? Pick up the first book in this series to find out!
Brigade is the second novel and the sequel to the first in the Lestrade series by author M.J. Trow. This highly anticipated second story in the hit series is worth checking out. Particularly if you liked the first book, this second story should be just right for you!
When it comes to Scotland Yard, Nimrod Frost is the new broom in town. He may be the greenest at the game and is going to have to adjust to the way that they do things there. His first small job from the inspector is to go and investigate an unusual case.
It appears that people are reporting the presence of what they can only describe as a lion in their area. This lion or something like it appears to be giving the local animals quite a fright. This is a problem as the sheep that are kept in that area are valuable and help the people make their living, but that’s going to be tough to do if your flock is getting devoured.
The people of Cornwall are scared because they have no idea what to do with such a predator on the loose. The sheep are now getting savaged and they need to put a stop to it somehow because it is scaring all of the local townspeople and getting to the livestock. it doesn’t really seem like it is a job for the Criminal Investigation Department’s inspector, and so he sends the new recruit to check it out.
Lestrade was also working on a case but now that it is done, it is happily time for him to get back to the city. He returns and arrives in London, but no sooner than he does so than another case pops up for him. As a suspicious death arises, followed by another, things are moving quickly and it appears that the deaths may be linked.
They do all share a pattern. For one thing, the deaths are all involving the same type of victim: older men. The inspector is doing his best to find the type of connection that they all share, besides the fact that they all appeared to have passed in their sleep.
Lestrade is concerned that after his last case with “The Ripper” that there may be another killer on the loose. Could this be the first sign of a mass murderer getting started? For the inspector, there’s no way of knowing until the signs point you one way or another. He may just have to be patient and wait to find out.
The inspector also finds that he is having trouble with his superiors. As he clashes with them, he finds that he has to now contend with suspension. Even though it’s a set back, Lestrade sees it all as a technicality. They need him too much to make this permanent and he’ll be back in no time.
He’s moving all about and trying to do the best that he can to pick up some leads that will help him solve the case. From royal palace to work house and more, the inspector is doing everything that he can to try and solve a case that is proving to be trickier than he thought it’d be.
Along with the new hire, can he find the clues that he needs in order to crack this case? Pick up this book to find out!
