M.M. Crumley
When M. M. Crumley was a child, she liked nothing more than losing herself in a world where heroes and magic were a part of the fabric of existence. Fiction, myths, stories, and legends have always been a big part of her life. She wrote her very first story featuring Doc Holliday as an immortal way back in 2004 for her college writing class and has been following the guy around ever since.

Every single one of her characters are real to Crumley. They exist, and are three dimensional beings that demand that their stories be told. They would haunt her if she turned away from them, so she doesn’t. Instead she chases after them and writes down everything that they say to her.

What she loves about fiction is that there are themes and some repeated ideas which filter through stories from all over the world. Cultures which never had any contact with one another are going to have almost identical myths or stories, and this forces us to ask the question of whether or not there really is a collective consciousness.

Within all of fiction there can be odd granules of insight and truth, and all of these truths can be found in the most surprising of places: a song, a cartoon, a story about a boy and his horse. The storyteller, the bard, the keeper of stories and traditions, and the oracle is one of the oldest offices of the earth. We’re able to help or hurt, able to carry the truth or the lie. Whichever side of the equation we’re on, magic follows us. We’re able to create a world to find some comfort in, a peace which soothes us, an idea which invigorates or changes. Through the written word, we are able to affect the world’s reality.

She just sits down and writes. If you are not attempting to control your story and make it go where you want it to, you will be amazed at what comes out of you. It is so beautiful and organic, and it is easy to keep things going, allowing your characters to do all of the work.

Getting to know her characters is her favorite part of being a writer. It is like meeting a new friend. She never knows what they are going to say or do next. They tell her. Sometimes she doesn’t see it coming.

Every single time she steps into the woods, she gets to thinking that she should be looking at all of the beauty, however what she is really doing is wondering just wondering what her characters would be doing in these woods.

“Hidden” is the first novel in the “Immortal Doc Holliday” series and was released in 2021. Not all ‘monsters’ are evil, and not all humans are good. If you enjoy characters that abide in this grey area and aren’t at all afraid of getting their hands dirty, then here is a series for you.

Magical self-replicating knife. Check. Soul eating tattoo. Check. An almost two hundred year old score to settle. Double check. Meet the immortal Doc Holliday.

Dr. John Holliday, while he was lying on his deathbed, got offered the choice of allowing the tuberculosis finish the job or accept immortality. He chose the latter, knowing that such “gifts” do not come cheap, although damned if the previous hundred years haven’t been a blast. Fighting, killing, partying, playing; yeah, eternal life has been good. However the time to really get serious has come finally, and the task that he has always known he was saved for is at hand.

Doc, who is now in modern day Denver, is going to be pushed to his limits in order to keep his promise and save the missing descendant of the gorgeous shaman that gave him everlasting life. Trouble is that things are not quite going as planned, and it becomes clear that there’s much more at stake than Doc had bargained for.

For fans of morally ambiguous, badass, antiheroes that never flinch at killing bad guys (and stealing their souls) then here is a book for you. It’s got the perfect blend of humor, supernatural action, and mystery you crave.

“Three Little Graves & the Big Bad Wolf” is the first novel in the “House of Graves” series and was released in 2023. The question is not whether or not Virgil Graves was incredibly evil (because he was); the question is just how exactly did his top investigator and daughter Tessa Graves not have any clue?

Even better question may be why would Tessa unquestioningly worship at the alter of her dad, whom she never actually liked? It is almost as though Virgil used his compulsion magic on the girl, however that’d be ridiculously evil, right? Imagine Tessa’s surprise when she takes her newly dead dad’s place at the family business’s head, Graves, Graves, & Graves, preeminent investigators to the Hidden, and discovers all of Virgil’s dirty little secrets come bubbling up to the surface and with them the horrible truth that for much of her life her mind hasn’t been her own.

The only thing that could possibly make things any worse than they are right now would be if Tessa’s plucky grandma and newly retired aunt decided that she desperately needed them both as her new sidekicks. And roommates. And life coaches. It’s nearly enough to make her start missing Virgil. Then again, Virgil’s own dirty deeds are about to bring the entire House of Graves come crashing down at the hands (or claws) of the Cadwel Wolves, this ruthless family of shelter elites (and one of Virgil’s top clients).

Here’s hoping that three generations of Graves (and maybe one troll) are enough to undo what Virgil Graves has done; assuming that it is not too late.

This is a brand new series with all of the laugh out loud humor, nail biting mystery, and supernatural action that you have come to demand and expect from M. M. Crumley. For those that are looking for a fun ride, then jump on, because this is for you!
