The American writer Maddie Cochere is highly regarded for her unique and perceptive way with words, appealing to readers from all the across the world. Extremely idiosyncratic with something to say, she really manages to make her voice heard through her stories, writing in both a clear and accessible manner. Knowing her audience inside and out, she is clearly a confident author who knows her place within the market and who she’s appealing to. This is something her many fans have come to appreciate her for, with her direct style appealing to many from all over the world. Largely focusing on the romance genre, she is also highly adept and creating intricately crafted mysteries with passion and care.

Her characters are also notable, all thanks to her concise style that manages to burrow down to the heart of who they really are. Creating novels with ongoing arcs is also another skill of hers, as she appeals to many returning fans too, with her many series continuing for large numbers of novels. This has seen her become far more prolific on the literary scene, ensuring her status as a writer consistent in the high quality of her output. With her audience knowing what to expect and what she can offer, she really is able to keep her readers glued to their seats, waiting to find out what comes next. Writing some stand-alone titles too, she has managed to produce a body of work that’s respected throughout the industry, something that will continue for quite some time to come.

Early and Personal Life

With a strong sense-of-humor and a keen passion for writing from an early age, it would seem that the fate of writer to be Maddie Cochere was already set firmly in stone. Taking in inspiration from the world around her from the outset, she would constantly be looking to find material to put back into her work. This would allow her to find her voice as a writer, creating both a tone and style that can be found running throughout all her work. Showing a clear sense of personality too, her work would at once be both funny and touching in equal measure, as she wasn’t afraid to shy away from sincerity either. Her own family can be found represented in her novels too, as she would use them as the template for many of her stories, bringing them to life in the process.

During the eighties Cochere would also come to own a weight loss company, whilst playing a lot of raquetball during the night-time. This would give her plenty of material to work with when writing her stories, especially Susan Hunter Mysteries series, which would feature the lead protagonist Susan Hunter being keenly into raquetball too. Looking at her ‘Two Sisters and a Journalist’ series, she has used her own family to shape the family of protagonist Jo Ravens, giving them a fuller shape and form. Her time spent working in the weight loss centers would also come to inform many of her books too, leading to her becoming the author that she currently is today. Now living in Ohio with her husband and their beagle, she still writes to this very day, something which she plans to continue for a long time yet.

Writing Career

Starting out back in 2012 with her debut title ‘Sunshine Hunter’, Maddie Cochere would mark her arrival with the first in her series of ‘Susan Hunter Mysteries’ series of novels. Following the eponymous Susan Hunter, the books see her running a weight loss center during the day, and playing raquetball after hours. Taking cues from her own life, Cochere really manages to infuse a feeling of realism into her leading character, whilst also keeping it simultaneously light-hearted and breezy. This also allows her readers to relate to her characters as well, as they definitely come to life off of the page, with her audience really caring about everything that happens. Reaching a worldwide audience, her work is simultaneously relevant and reflective of life in Florida, whilst also holding a number of universal truths too.

She would also go on to write her much loved and revered ‘Two Sisters and a Journalist’ in 2014, with the novel ‘Murder Under Construction’. This would follow the character of one Jo Ravens, a woman who discovers a new life for herself as a private investigator following her divorce. Discovering herself in this new line of work, she typically works alongside her sister, along with the help of a journalist too. The three of them come together over the course of the series, as they solve a variety of different and intriguing cases and mysteries. Gaining the attention of both the critics and the general public alike, these books and series have plenty of life left in them yet, with a lot more planned to follow on the horizon.

Big Easy Hunter

Released in 2012, this would first come out on the Kindle on the 9th of September. Marking the fourth title in the ‘Susan Hunter Mystery’ series, it would carry on from the previous novels. Providing a stand-alone mystery, it also develops the characters and the world overall.

Seemingly living the life now, Susan Hunter apparently has it all, with her partner Mick and her position working at ‘Slimmers Weight Loss’. That’s when she hears that there’s a not only a serial rapist on the loose, but a burglar as well, with homes being broken into throughout the community. Not only that, but it seems that Susan is being set-up for the burglaries, with scores of people pointing directly her way. Will she be able to clear her name? What will happen at the wedding in New Orleans with her friend Darby? Who is the big easy hunter?

Murder Welcomes You to Buxley

Brought out through the ‘Breezy Books’ publishing label, this was the third title in the ‘Two Sisters and a Journalist’ series of novels. A mystery title, it was brought out in 2015 on the 29th of January, providing another mystery to solve. It also works as a crossover too, with Susan Hunter arriving in a guest appearance, providing something for Cochere’s long-term fans.

Looking to locate a missing teen girl, a philandering husband and a stolen car, it appears that Jo Ravens has her work cut out for her. Then she finds the body of a murdered girl found leaning against a dumpster, with the motive apparently being a stolen cell phone. Ravens believes there’s more to the case though, as she digs deeper, whilst coming into none other than Susan Hunter, who’s just turned up to open a new ‘Slimmers Weight Loss’ center. How will the two get on in? Can they find the killer? What happens when they say ‘murder welcomes you to Buxley’?
