The Made in Savannah book series is a wonderful series of cozy mystery and suspense stories. It is comprised of a total of 12 books released between 2016 and 2019. The series is written by a reputed American novelist named Hope Callaghan. Every book of this series revolves around the life of Carlita Garlucci, who is a widow of a mafia man from New York. Carlita finds a mysterious key in the belongings of her late husband that sets into motion a series of mysterious events. Carlita joins her daughter named Mercedes to follow clues that lead them to historic Savannah. As the mother and daughter pair continue to look for clues, they realize that one can run, but cannot hide from their past. Hope Callaghan has set every novel in Savannah, which also gives the series its name.

Several other essential characters created by the author for this series include Vinnie Garlucci, Tony Garlucci, Elvira Cobb, Victoria Montgomery, Pirate Pete, Ravello Ristorante, Shelby, etc. The debut book of the series is entitled ‘Key to Savannah’. It was released as a Kindle book in 2016. The book opens by introducing Carlita Garlucci as the devoted of the deceased mafia man named Vinnie Garlucci. She has 4 children, including a daughter named Mercedes and a son named Tony. After several months of the untimely death of her husband, Carlita discovers a key in the pocket of one of her jackets. The key appears to be a mysterious one, making Carlita wonder if it could lead her somewhere or to something. She takes the help of her daughter and sets out to find the origin of the mysterious key.

Soon after, Carlita comes to know that the key belongs to a property in Savannah, Georgia, which was owned by her late husband and now belongs to her. The property appears to be a sign to Carlita, who remembers the last words of her husband to get as far as possible from the mafia. Against the decision of her 3 sons, Carlita embarks on a road trip with her daughter to check out the property. While they were gone, someone broke into their house and vandalized everything. Carlita thinks that it is the work of the mafia as the vandalizing has happened for the second time since her husband’s death. Mercedes and Carlita hope to leave their old life behind and give themselves a fresh beginning in the beautiful Savannah. But, they soon realize that it is not going to be an easy task because of the frequent troubles caused by the mafia.

Another exciting novel written in this series by Hope Callaghan is known as ‘Road to Savannah’. It was also published in 2016 in the Kindle format. Initially, it is mentioned that Carlita has sold everything, including her old house, to move to Savannah, Georgia and start a new life with her children. Her sons are not willing to move to Savannah, but her daughter is excited for the beginning of the new chapter. The mother & daughter duo are also nervous about moving into an unknown region on their own and not having any men to look after them.

As soon as they move into the inherited property, they begin the repair work. Everything appears to be falling into place very well and moving along nicely. Their expectation of a happy life takes a shocking turn with the discovery of a dead body in one section of the property. Carlita and Mercedes try their best to explain to the authorities that they were not in Savannah at the time of the victim’s murder, but they don’t believe their words due to the lack of proof. To make matters worse, it is learned that the victim belonged to the Savannah Architectural Society and had visited the property for discussing several construction violations. The Society’s members seem convinced that their colleague was killed by the Garlucci family.

Carlita Garlucci is convinced that the real murderer is trying to frame her for personal gains. She wonders if the culprit wants to get hold of the vast property. However, she is not willing to let that happen and fight as long as possible to prove her innocence. Mercedes stands by her side and is willing to do all that it takes to find the real killer. Carlita is worried that if she does not succeed in revealing the real culprit soon, then the police might dig into her past and find that she has some secrets of her own that she has been desperately trying to hide. This book contains clean and cozy mysteries devoid of any foul language, gore, or sex scenes.

Hope Callaghan is an award-winning American writer of inspirational, cozy mystery, and romance stories. She is known to have penned more than seventy books in her career and most of them are immensely popular. Hope says that she comes up with the ideas of her stories while lying on her bed in the middle of the night. Whenever an idea comes to her mind, she notes them down in her diary and then tries to develop them into a novel whenever she finds the time. Hope claims that a lot of her ideas originate from her husband named Mitchell. Both of them like to share ideas while driving or relaxing in each other’s company. Many of Hope’s ideas come from real-life experiences. The characters developed by her are mostly fictitious, but they certain personality traits that Hope borrowed from people around her.

Hope likes to keep a track of her novel’s development through numerous small notes. She maintains a separate file for each series and keeps going through them while writing a new book. Mostly, Hope begins a story with its main characters. Then, she creates spouses, secondary characters, and descriptions. The last thing that she thinks about while writing a story is its setting. Seeing her characters grow while she develops a story increases her excitement to another level. Generally, it takes her 3 weeks to finish the writing part of a book. So, she usually writes from 5000 to 7000 words every day. Hope likes to advise the aspiring writers to have faith in them and their talent. She also suggests them to do research work before writing anything and give credibility to their work. And also, she wants them to not feel afraid of the challenges that come in their path.
