An American writer, Maia Chance is an author who has been writing for quite some time now, with a whole host of books coming out under her names, as she focuses on both mystery and romance underpinned with an element of the historical genre as well. This has allowed her to reach a worldwide audience, creating a name for herself on a global scale, with a style that is respected by both her peers and many contemporaries within this particular field. With her idiosyncratic style she has been able to carve herself a niche that is at once unique and distinctive in both her tone and approach to the format overall, with her ever engaging plot-lines and in-depth characterizations that many find themselves relating to easily.

Early and Personal Life

Born and raised in America, she was always interested in literature and the written word, with both reading and writing being a strong passion of hers. Always found reading and writing, she’d focus on her craft throughout her formative years, something that would pay of well later on during her adult career as a fully fledged author. Taking in inspiration from the world around her and feeding it back into her material, she always had a keen eye for detail as well, knowing exactly what was needed for her stories and when.

Educated to a high-school level and beyond, she was always academically gifted as well, something which would also help her in her career path as a novelist. Constantly focusing on her writing throughout her education, she would spend her formative years continually coming back fiction as an art-form. This would also allow her to go on to participate in a Ph.D. program at the University of Washington, whereby she did her dissertation on nineteenth-century American Literature, something which definitely shape her career to follow.

Working constantly and vigorously on becoming a full-time writer, she would manage her career carefully over the following years, always set with the end goal in sight. Knowing both her style and her tone, she was able to hone and refine her skills as an author, creating a different and unique take on the genre that many readers have come to appreciate over the years. During her time looking at 19th-century literature she would dream up a lot of her characters, largely due to her fascination with the heroines of yesteryear and the part they played in informing modern and contemporary literature as we currently know it today.
Currently living in Bainbridge Island in Washington in the United States, she continues to write full-time as a fully fledged and highly successful author. With a whole host of other interests as well, including cookery and some gardening alongside that, she is and always will be a writer at heart. Showing no signs of stopping anytime soon, she has a lot more novels set to be released on the horizon, as her writing career carries on into the foreseeable future, as she will develop her voice and tone for many years to come.

Writing Career

Starting out with her ‘Fairy Tale Fatal Mystery’ series of novels, Maia Chance made her initial debut onto the literary scene with the title ‘Snow White Red-Handed’. Written in 2014, she begun her career as an author writing about something that would become a primary interest for her, especially prescient when considering the aforementioned dissertation. Coming a long way in a relatively short amount of time, she quickly expanded on this series, along with a collection of other series and franchises, such as her ‘Discreet Retrieval Agency’ series, and they’re all equally as popular as she very quickly amassed a large following for her work as well.

Still writing to this very day, she has managed to keep her writing career growing and growing, something which will continue to happen for some time yet. Seen as a consummate professional of her craft, she has taken a set of genres and essentially turned them upside down, creating something entirely new in the process. This is what will keep her audience coming back for more time and time again, with a lot of loyal readers already eagerly awaiting each release with a sense of anticipation, a trend that won’t be ending anytime soon, as it look like she still has a lot more potential to develop as an author and is definitely one to watch for the future.

Snow White Red-Handed

Initially published in 2014, this was to be the first in her ongoing ‘Fairy Tale Fatal Mystery’ series of novels, which is fast proving to be one of her most popular franchises to date. First released through the ‘Berkley Prime Crime’ publishing label, it was brought out on the 4th of November, setting up the series overall in the process. Establishing both the style and the tone, it manages to convey the overall sense of what the series is about, as well as building upon the overall atmosphere and ambiance of it all.

Set in 1867, this book sees the character and heroine of Ophelia finding herself working for a crass millionaire as his maid in his fairy-tale style castle. Not only that, but once she arrives at this Grimm style castle there appears to be the remains of a cottage in the garden that apparently belonged Snow White herself, along with the remains of a dwarf in the grounds. Then her boss is found dead having been poisoned by none other than a poisoned apple, leading Ophelia to suspect that there may be more to this case than first meets the eye. Who murdered her boss? What do fairy-tales have to do with it? Can they catch Snow White red-handed?

Come Hell or Highball

First brought out in 2015 on the 15th of September almost one year after her first novel, this establishes her next series titled the ‘Discreet Retrieval Agency’ franchise. With it being released through the Minotaur Book publishing label this time, it manages to create a somewhat different take on the genre and a change in direction for Chance as an author. Still working as a period piece it moves ahead to the prohibition era, setting up a whole new premise, and one that has its own set of rules to follow.

Lola Woodby is a thirty year old society matron who has managed to survive a once loveless marriage, as she now leaves it in the past behind her. That’s when she agrees to go and recover a film-reel that was thought to be stolen and, hopefully, be able to return it to its rightful owner. Things aren’t so easy, though, following the death of the man who is thought to be holding the reel, as Lola is then set on its trail through prohibition era American high society. Will she find the killer? What will happen to her? Can she find the reel come hell of highball?
