Manny Williams is the main character in a novel series of police procedural/crime thriller novels written by American best-selling author Rick Murcer. Williams works as a police officer based in Lansing, Michigan. The author, Rick Murcer, began the publication of Manny William’s series in 2011 when the first novel in the series Caribbean Moon was published. Deceitful Moon and Emerald Moon are the second and the third books in the series both published in 2011.

Caribbean Moon

Manny Williams, the small town detective, and a workaholic is excited he can finally push through with the long awaited vacation that he had promised his wife.

The lovebird’s exotic getaway kicks off San Juan, Puerto Rico, and they attend the wedding of a fellow Lansing police officer, then followed by a week long Southern Caribbean cruise on the brilliant Ocean Duchess. The tropical paradise seems to be the perfect recipe for a real vacation until a body is discovered. Another murder at a luxurious San Juan Hotel and two other deaths of Lansing’s Law Enforcement family in the cruise ship forces Manny to swiftly switch between the cruise mode and dives into the FBI led the investigation.

Manny soon realizes that nothing can stop this killer twisted perception, thus forcing him to race against time to save what he holds dearly or otherwise cost him everything. Overall, the murder mystery side of this story and the main character Manny Williams has been brilliantly done by Rick Murcer. The author descriptions will make you feel like you are traveling together with Manny Williams even if you have never been on a cruise ship before. The story develops in such a manner that is believable and also in some instances jaw-dropping.

The main character is an interesting one, and the author brings him out as one of the best characters you will ever encounter. He is a hard-working, obsessed and dedicated detective. He has more trouble letting the job go while on vacation with his wife than he has worn a bowtie. He has served as an investigator for twelve years, and through his works and amazing skills, he has built his reputation for being an excellent detective and a good cop who makes use of small clues and intuition that lead to arrests.

Manny demonstrates what a good cop should be like, and proves that service to one’s country should always come first. Even though cruising on the Pacific on vacation with his wife, determined to have a good time, relax, strengthen their love bond and forget about the results of his wife last Mammogram, Manny does not shun away from his duties as a detective when bodies start piling up. All that he had planned for this beautiful vacation does not happen as Manny is gets entangled in a brutal murder case that appears to have links to the case from the past and the victim he thought he was done with seems to be the core suspect of the recent deaths.

Manny and his fellow cops put aside their vacation to track down the killer hiding amongst the passengers in the ship, haunting them each single step of the way, and always one step ahead of the cops regardless of how hard they try.

Caribbean Moon plot is compelling, riveting, heartbreaking and full of twists and turns as Detective Manny Williams tries to protect his friends and the woman he loves most in the whole world from a psychopath who seems to have mutated into a world class serial killer.

Deceitful Moon

Deceitful Moon is the second novel in Manny Williams series by Rick Murcer. The series picks up three months after the events that took place in the first book, Caribbean Moon. In this second novel, there are two plot lines. The first one involves Manny and his partner Sophie Lee who are tracking down the serial killer who was featured in the first book of the series. The second plot line involves a new serial killer in Manny Williams hometown of Lansing who is taking down males.

The novel opens up as Manny Williams and Sophie Lee, his partner are called to a crime scene of a gruesome and disturbing murder at Lansing adult playhouse, named White Kitty. The circumstances behind the death of the recent con killing seem more complicated as the evidence raises more questions than the answers.

As Manny begins his investigation, he is interrupted by a phone call that ultimately shakes his world. His adversary, a serial murderer Dr. Fredrick Argyle has murdered again, and in fact, sends the video to prove it. Argyle’s offensive acts force Manny and his partner back to the Caribbean. In the meantime, the body count rises in his home town as it happens that another serial killer who is killing only males is on the loose.

Deceitful Moon is an action packed, fast paced novel that you will enjoy every minute while reading. There are plenty of bodies, gory murders, violence, and furthermore, there are plenty of humor and likable characters. You will indeed love the blend of the serial killer hunting and jokes that he author has integrated into this novel.

Rick Murcer writing is engaging, and throughout the novel, there are lots of twists and turns. Detective Manny Williams partner Sophie is a brilliant character with a compelling attitude. The author portrays the female characters in this series with more variety that you will find in many of the tops ranked thrillers writers. Each of the female character featured in this novel feels multi-dimensioned, and he or she serves multiple functions in the story. Also, they are developed in such a way that they bring out a great deal of emotional appeal.

Even though the main plot focuses more about the gruesome murders, the author manages to keep some certain lightness in the friendship of the characters and the love that exists amongst the family. The author does an excellent job with each element in this series: well-plotted mysteries, strong characters, and lots of red herrings.
