Mansi Shah is a bestselling literary fiction author from the United States best known for “The Taste of Ginger,” her debut novel. She published her first novel in 2022 and was surprised when the title went on to become a bestseller right off the bat.

Even though she was born in Toronto she spent much of her childhood in the midwest of the United States and went to universities in the United States, Australia and England. She currently makes her home in Los Angeles from where she writes most of her works.

When she is not penning her bestselling titles she can usually be found exploring different cultures as she is a travel freak. She also plays a lot of tennis and experiments with new literary creations.

Shah’s debut novel “The Taste of Ginger” is for the most part set in India given that the author has Indian roots. It is clear that she did a lot of research and is very much interested in her culture. Reading the novel, you learn a lot about the clothing and rituals that were part and parcel of life in India.
It also provides one with a better understanding of the amount of work that has to be put in to make one an American. Mansi tells of how hard immigrants have it trying to fit into American culture.

They have to deal with homesickness and missing the family they left behind as they seek greener pastures in a strange land. It is a novel that will make you cry and laugh in equal measure.

“The Taste of Ginger” by Mansi Shah is the story of Preeti. She moved with her brother and parents from India to Chicago in the U.S when she was only seven years old. They had made their home in a suburb mostly populated by Chinese immigrants and as such, kept up with Indian traditions they had grown up with.
Preeti and her sibling knew that it was critical to get Americanized as fast as possible if they were to fit in with the other kids. But the Americanization caused a lot of problems between them and their mother.

The last nail in the coffin was when her mother discovered that she was living with an American man who was a Christian. At the time, Preeti was employed as a lawyer and working for one of the leading law firms in the Windy City.

Since she believed she was on track to make partner, she worked harder than anyone and even declined an offer to visit India with her parents. Things turn sour when one of her family members is involved in a tragic accident in India and she is forced to take leave from work to go see them.

Upon arriving in India and meeting her relatives she finds them strange and different . She had forgotten many of the rituals and customs that are part of life for her family but gradually gets in the hang of things.

Battling with sacrifice, tradition and castes she has to make some critical decisions about where she belongs.
