Marele Day is an Australian published author of fictional novels.

Marele was born on May 4, 1947. She is famous for writing her mystery novels, which include the Claudia Valentine series. The series is considered to be a classic when it comes to Australian fiction writing. Her first novel in the series is The Life and Crimes of Henry Lavender, and it won her the Shamus Award.

Marele Day has also received the Ned Kelly Award for her book How to Write Crime, a nonfiction work.

Born in Sydney, Day grew up in Pagewood, which is an industrial suburb of Australia. She went to Sydney Girls High School and graduated, moving on to attend Sydney Teachers’ College. She would also enroll in Sydney University, graduating in 1973 with her degree.

In addition to writing, she has had many jobs. Day has worked as a patent searcher and a researcher. At some point during the 1980s she also was a teacher, employed at an elementary school.

Many are familiar with her Claudia Valentine series, but not to be overlooked is her novel Lambs of God. The 1997 novel took a break from her usual genre of crime and tells the story of two nuns that live on an island fighting against it being taken over by developers. The book was a popular hit, becoming a best seller. It was adapted into the four-episode television series Lambs of God in 2019, starring actresses Ann Dowd, Jessican Barden, and Essie Davis.

The author resides on the New South Wales North coast. She has served as a mentor for the residential mentorship program in New South Wales from 2002 to 2022. She also is on the board of the Byron Writers Festival.

Marele Day has also written several full-length novels in addition to her 1997 work Lambs of God. She is the author of Shirley’s Song, which came out in 1984. In addition, she has written the 2000 novel Mavis Levack, P.I., and the 2002 novel Mrs. Cook. She is also the author of the 2009 novel The Sea Bed.

Marele Day is the creator and the author of the Claudia Valentine series of fictional novels. The series first got started with the publication of the debut novel, titled The Life and Crimes of Henry Lavender, in 1988. It would be followed by the second novel in the series in 1990 called The Case of the Chinese Boxes. The third novel in the series is titled The Last Tango of Dolores Delgado and came out in 1992. The fourth book would be released just two years later in 1994 and is titled The Disappearances of Madalena Grimaldi.

Claudia Valentine is the name of the young woman in this series. She’s divorced and has two kids with her ex and a penchant for drinking whiskey. She also happens to be a private investigator.

When a friend from school requests that she look into the death of their brother, Claudia cannot resist. It’s a favor to an old friend and while they say that her brother died from a heart attack, she thinks that it’s anything but that. The brother was Mark Bannister and he was in the middle of writing a great best seller when he was discovered dead at his computer.

Claudia thinks taht something must be up. When it comes to the official side of things, the coroner declared that the death was in fact not suspicious. But that doesn’t stop Claudia from looking into things further. If this was an accidental death, fine. But it could also be the perfect crime and a perfect murder. Maybe this was more than just a simple heart attack after all.

One piece of evidence that has left behind was a note that said ‘terminal illness’. Claudia starts to wonder and gradually starts to put clues together. This will lead her on a trail through the criminal underworld of Syndey in the 1980s. She also starts to notice certain things, such as a BMW that seems to pop up wherever she is.

Claudia thinks that she smells a rat and wants to catch it more than anything. But the further that she gets, the deeper that things seem to go. Things seem to be pointing towards a man name Harry Lavender that seems to have dealings all over. He’s the opposite of a law-abiding citizen. which means that Claudia has to be careful as she winds her way through the many clues.

It’s like playing a game of cat and mouse, but with a crime figure at the other end of things. Claudia will do her best to come up with the answers that tell what really happened to this talented author. Was it just a heart attack? Or is someone playing a game of murder that doesn’t want to get caught?
