Marian Babson is an author and the pen name that was used by Ruth Stenstreem. The 1991 movie Bejewelled is based on her novel.
The author was born in Massachusetts in Salem on January 1, 1929. Even though she was born and grew up in America, she resided in London for much of her life. She passed away on December 19, 2017.
She had a long and successful career as a writer and also has worked as a librarian, secretary, and receptionist. She has managed a headquarters for political campaign, served as den mother to various commercial artists, and worked at a knitting magazine as a co-editor.
Babson also worked as a temp that took her into different parts of London’s business life. She worked for all sorts of places from law firms to clubs and a museum and architects. She belongs to the C.W.A. and served as their secretary for a time.
Her interests were varied and include travel, cooking, art, cinema, theater, cats, and mystery novels. She first became an author in print in 1971 with the publication of the first novel in her fictional Perkins and Tate series. She has since had dozens of her books make it into print for readers to enjoy! She has said that she would describe her style as murder ‘most British’ and it is reflected in her novels.
Some common themes of her fiction are violence occasionally, but not described in full graphic detail. The detectives working in her books are also usually newcomers to the game instead of professional, established investigators. She has also used some of her characters more often. Even though many of her books belong to a series, they can still be enjoyed on their own and even read in the order that you choose to.
Marian Babson is the creator and author of the Perkins & Tate series of fictional novels. This series first came out in 1975, the first time that the debut story came out. The second novel came out the next year and has the alternate title of Murder on Show. It would be a while until the third book came out in 1989. The fourth book was released in 1990 and made this engaging series a quartet.
The first novel in the Perkins & Tate series is titled Cover Up Story. If you have been searching for a unique and interesting story to read, then this is the one for you!
When a band crosses the pond to go to England. They’re originally from Nashville, but are overseas to go on a combination show tour and road trip. They’re doing pretty well as they recently have had one of their songs top the charts. They’re hoping to capitalize on the popularity of their single, but something may yet stand in their way.
Back in the United States, Bart has an unfortunate situation going on. He has an indictment currently ongoing that involves a fan that was allegedly not of age. It’s not a good look for the band, and their public relations representative has been working overtime to keep this scandalous news from getting out.
This is all a bit of a hot mess, and the band has never been more popular. Meanwhile, the risk of their careers being tanked by this case is very high. Doug Perkins is the one individual that stands between the musicians and total annihilation of their career. If anyone can keep this thing under wraps, it would be him.
No one really knows whether the musician is guilty of this crime or whether he’s just the victim of a bad situation by someone seeking money or fame. Doug is about to find out that this musician is perhaps not so innocent of this indictment as he might want to believe.
Doug is just worried about doing his job at this point and he’ll sort the rest out as it comes. Things are already quite bad, and he is concerned that they are not going to get better. That gut instinct is about to prove correct when some money and love-related secrets begin to come out, seemingly from nowhere.
Only the band and certain individuals that belong to it really know the truth. But what happens in the end may shock all of them. Can Doug do his job? Or is he going to be forced to moonlight as an amateur detective when someone is murdered? It’s all included within the pages of this thrilling crime mystery! Pick up a copy for yourself to find out.
The second book in this series is Murder at the Cat Show. If you thought that the events of the first story were entertaining, then come and check out what’s going on in this engaging crime mystery sequel!
Perkins is back again, and ready to take on the world. He’s a member of a public relations company in London that was doing okay but is now starting to struggle. The firm is going to have to buckle down and make some tough calls if they’re going to stay in business, that’s for sure.
Perkins & Tate needs to turn it around and now the jobs that are coming their way are more necessary than ever. Doug has to pay the bills, and if that means taking on a gig that involves cats, that’s what it means.
A cat extravaganza gala wants to have Doug do the public relations for it. He quickly agrees to take the job. After all, the cash is going to be a great payoff for the work. He never anticipated that this job would be so involving.
Who would’ve thought that cats could be so valuable? There were many attending that were expensive and worth quite a lot. Even celebrity cats were there. But when a gold statue is lifted from the event, the tone turns from celebratory to nervous.
Perkins must manage this whole disaster and keep it from getting out. When a murder follows the burglary, and it involves the organizer of the show, Perkins realizes that he must do some detective work once more. Can he find a killer? Read this book to find out!

Hi, I’m very sorry to learn that Marian Babson has left us but I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not she wrote a follow-up from the book ‘Death Warmed Up’, which followed a group of people setting up a catering business? If so I would appreciate knowing the title, Thankyou, Debbie.
