Mark Cheverton is an American author of several bestselling series and novels for young readers based on the game of Minecraft, including the Mystery of Herobrine series and Gameknight999 series. Cheverton wrote his debut Minecraft novel, Invasion of the Overworld as a means to help his son understand the concept of cyberbullying. Mark’s first novel and attempt into commercial writing is The Crystal Tear. With a background in physics, he holds a bachelors and a master’s degree in Physics. For one and half decades, Cheverton worked in the public school system, teaching calculus, environmental science, physical science, and advanced placement physics in high schools in California, New York, and Maryland, as well as in universities and community colleges.

After moving out of public education system, Cheverton ventured to a high tech startup: fiber optics. He began doing extensive research on fiber optics components, developed new manufacturing strategies, and developed mathematical models for component performance. After the demise of his startup company, the author ventured into R&D company where he researched automated defect detection systems, machine vision, robotics, holography, laser systems, manufacturing systems and other small projects that ranged from health care to plastic components.

After spending many years on the science field, Mark Cheverton quit his scientific research job to pursue full-time writing. His path to becoming a successful author was never an easy one. The debut novel The Crystal Tear did not perform so well, but regardless he wrote another novel, The Faces of Finder which was also a fail as well. The author wrote three more stories which were all gigantic flops. After writing five books that underperformed, he wrote the first book in Minecraft series. This series was dedicated to his son who was cyberbullied and went on to publish Invasion of the Overworld dedicated to showing his son that it wasn’t his fault that he was cyberbullied. This novel received millions of positive acclaims, landing him an agent and a publisher.

Invasion of the Overworld

The Invasion of the Overworld is the first book in Gameknight99 series. Gameknight99 the main character the main character in the story loves Minecraft, playing on servers, building fabulous structures, creating custom maps, and above all he loved to grief. The self-proclaimed king of the Griefers played the game at the expense of other players, keeping the list of his friends in the virtual worlds as brief as possible.

But when one of his father’s greatest inventions teleports him into the virtual game world, Gameknight is forced to live out a real-world adventure within the virtual world of Minecraft. Unsure if he could respawn if murdered in the game, maybe he would just disconnect or may die, he must play the game with all his knowledge and talents to avoid the sharp fangs of spiders and sharp claws of the zombies. While living in this painful and terrible adventure, Gameknight also discovers something secret about Minecraft, something that not even the programmers realize: the deadly creatures within the digital world are alive!

His emergence into the virtual game world triggers a war that threatens to destroy all of Minecraft and if possible, the physical world as well. He, therefore, must fight through the game world with his new friend, Crafter, and his user friend Shawny as he confronts some epic battle against all those who seek to destroy everything. Gameknight is the only hope and key to salvation for all the virtual lives in Minecraft and possibly our physical world as well or maybe he’s not the key at all, probably he is the fuse to ultimate destruction.

The first book in Mark Cheverton’s series Gameknight99 is a brilliant debut book. It explores the major challenges that people face when they cheat. A teenage boy whose Minecraft username is Gameknight99 is a hacker and a troller. He faces lots of problems throughout the narrative due to his cheating, including his biggest challenge ever, which happens when he gets sucked into the game’s world thanks to his dad’s inventions.

The novel presents basic survival skills matched alongside a great storyline. For any newcomer to the famous Minecraft games that love reading, and would like to get to play the game- Invasion of the Overworld is a great suggestion. The novel teaches the ins and outs of surviving in Minecraft along with the harmful effects of hacking and trolling others. Friendship is a topic that is addressed severally in the story. Friendship issues cause the main character to take back all the evil deeds that he has ever committed.

Battle for the Nether

Battle for the Nether is the second book in Gameknight99 series by Mark Cheverton. Again we meet Gameknight, a real-life Minecraft player trapped inside the game thanks to his father’s invention that teleported him into the virtual world. His good friend Crafter have transported into a new server and Malacode the ruler of the Nether is a terrible ghast who wants to annihilate everything in Minecraft using his massive magma cubes, an army of blazes, wither skeletons and zombie pigmen. Knowing that all the lives in the physical world, even those within Minecraft, are depending on him, Gameknight and his friend Crafter will have to search the land and enlist an NPC army. But the battles that Gameknight has fought have left him questioning his abilities and skills. He will have to find his courage if he needs to have a shot at victory.

Terrible monsters, epic battles, spine-tingling suspense, heartwarming friendships, Battle for the Nether takes our main character epic adventures on a whole new level in a non-stop fast-paced roller-coaster ride.

Confronting the Dragon

Malacoda and Erebus have led their armies to the server that house the code in a mission to destroy the whole of Minecraft and all the digital lives on the servers before escaping to the real world. Only Gameknight and his NPC army can stop them. However, the monster army is growing bigger as if there is someone or something helping them.

A secret stays hidden in the dark shadows as Gameknight and army race across the server. To defeat his enemies, Gameknight will find the need to figure out how these monsters are being created so fast. His quest will see him and his army travel into a new dimension altogether, in a floating island where an evil creature awaits them.
