Setting herself apart, her readers continually come back for more time and time again, with many of her books being part of various ongoing series.

Her characters are also extremely well drawn, creating fully fledged personalities that really stand out as three-dimensional. Leaving an impact, they stay with the young readers long after they’ve put the book down, while also nurturing a keen interest in reading. Speaking extensively on her craft too, she also visits various different schools across America, talking directly to her audience. There’s a lot more to come in the future too, as she isn’t stopping any time soon, as her writing career continues to grow.

Early and Personal Life
Born in 1956 on the 25th of February, Martha Freeman would grow up in Whittier, California, in the United States. Raised in Southern California, she would develop a strong passion for both the art of writing and reading extensively. Over time she would nurture this interest of hers, finding her voice as an author, and as artist with something unique to say.

Attending Glenoaks Elementary, and then Woodrow Wilson Junior High, followed by Glendale High School, she would go on to make a name fore herself. Graduating from Stanford University with a history degree in 1978, she would work a variety of different jobs, including teacher, reporter, lecturer, and editor. Currently living in Boulder, Colorado, she continues to write regularly, putting out work on a consistent basis with more to follow.

Writing Career
The first book that Martha Freeman would write was titled ‘Stink Bomb Mom’ and it was a children’s book published in 1996. Establishing her as a new voice in the children’s literary scene, she would go on to write ‘The Year My Parents Ruined My Life’ in 1997 just one year later. Both of these would be stand-alone titles, although Freeman would create her first series in 2000 titled ‘Trouble With…’ and it would begin with ‘The Trouble With Cats.’

There would be several other series over the course of her writing career, including the ‘Chickadee Court Mysteries,’ the ‘First Kids Mysteries,’ and ‘Secret Cookie Club’ series. Introducing many of her young readers to the genre of mystery for the first time, she sought to make it accessible and engaging for them.

The Case of the Bug on the Run
Originally brought out on the 1st of January in 2013, this would be the sixth title in the ‘First Kids’ series of books. Published through the ‘Holiday House’ publishing label, the series would follow the adventures of two young children and their different mysteries solved while living as the daughters of the first female American president in the White House. Aimed at children, the stories feature Cammie and Tessa, who, along with their dog, always have a new case to solve.

There’s plenty of nice extra details in here, especially when it comes to detailing in and around the White House for its young readers. As well as being a fun mystery, it also provides plenty of factual information for them, teaching them about political issues in an entertaining and engaging manner. With a lot of humor mixed in there too, it’s a warm and funny story with some lively and imaginative chapters throughout. The layout of the book itself also helps introduce children to books featuring chapters, making it easy and fun to follow.

While attending the National Zoo, Tessa and Cammie, the First Kids, are soon found taking home a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach that was otherwise unwanted. Naming her Maddie, she soon goes missing, but later is returned by the FBI, and she’s been bugged, which is a problem with the kid’s mother being the American president. This leads to the Cammie and Tessa conducting their own investigation, as they attempt to find who could be possibly spying on them. Will they be able to find the culprit? Why were they bugged? What is the truth behind the case of the bug on the run?

Little Red Hoodie
First published in 2020 on the 1st of December, this was initially published through the ‘Holiday House publishing outlet once again, while being a stand-alone story. While this may be a stand-alone piece, it does act as a companion piece to the book titled ‘Goldilocks, Go Home!’ With Marta Sevilla acting as a contributor to the book, the two of them have worked together to create a colorful and vibrant story. Providing an alternative look at the classic Little Red Riding Hood fairy-tale, it offers another perspective, this time more irreverent.

Not able to follow directions to her grandmother’s house, Little Red Hoodie is lost in a fairy-tale fantastical land. Losing the directions that headed past the beanstalk and Breadcrumb, she’s lost herself and her basket’s been stolen in the magical forest. Featuring a whole host of colorful cameos along the way, she meets plenty of friends who help her out in getting to her grandmother’s house and finding her basket. Narrating the story are the characters of Little Red Hoodie and Bobby Bear, as they take it in turns to relate this reimagined tale.
