Martin Scott is the pseudonym of bestselling author Martin Millar the Scottish author from Glasgow.

While he achieved much success writing under his own name, he felt that he wanted to branch out into other genres and did not want to confuse his readers.
As Martin Millar, he published his debut novel in 1987 but it was not until 1999 that he published “Thraxas” his debut novel that went on to become a bestselling title.

The work was so popular that it would win the World Fantasy Award in 2000. Since then he has been working hard and has more than a dozen titles writing as Martin Scott.

His novels are usually a fusion of irresistible pulp noir thrillers and traditional high fantasy. Martin also loves to switch between his two identities given that he likes to write works between the genres.

He is very active on social media but likes to communicate with his fans and readers through the newsletter on his Martin Millar website.

“Thraxas” the bestselling and award-winning novel by Martin Scott is an intriguing hardboiled story. The lead in the novel is a drunken down on his luck private investigator with a chequered past and magical education.

As is common in such tales, it is not long before he finds himself in far-reaching complications that force him out of his comfort zone. Thraxas is hired by Princess Du-Akai the third in line to the throne.

Her job is to find a letter that has gone missing and she has to go against Sarin the Merciless a ruthless killer. The latter seems to have gotten more vicious and has now teamed up with the kingdom of Yal’s half Orc half-mad sorcerer Horm the Dead.

In the meantime, internal strife is rife in the city as Senators Ritius and Cicerius battle for the post of Deputy Consul even as The Brotherhood and The Society of Friends fight for the control of the dwa trade.

Meanwhile, Makri is attending Guild College but no encouragement is needed for her to get her sword and go fight. Thraxas’s investigation lead shim from the Imperial Palace to the sewers of Turai and it is not long before he has to confront the King’s new dragon.

Martin Scott’s novel “Thraxas and the Warrior Monks” is a light-hearted work that continues to follow the life and times of Thraxas, the private investigator.
The novel opens to a hot summer in Turai where Thraxas is enjoying some of the money he got from being a huge success on the last outing. He is content just sitting in his favorite bar drinking beer and eating.

But then a man barges in saying he is innocent of killing his mentor. Soon after the police drag him out and Thraxas could not be more intrigued.
Working with former gladiator pit champion and barmaid Makri, Thraxas finds himself knee-deep investigating stolen things and murder.

Along the way, he has run-ins with a girl who talks with dolphins, dueling bands of warrior monks, politicians, and assassins. The story continues to serve up much of what was present in the first novel.

The complex tale comes with dueling plot lines that go in all manner of interesting directions that are not resolved right up to the very end.
Scott adds in persistent humor and moves her plot at lightning speed which makes the formulaic telling work very well.

“Thraxas at the Races” by Martin Scott is an amusing and entertaining tale that continues to follow the adventures of Thraxas the private investigator.
Thraxas is having a bad day in court as he gets slapped with a huge fine by the courts and then his two enemies threaten to take him out.

His enemies are Glixious Dragon an unfriendly sorcerer while Rittius heads the Place Security and none of them are known for kidding when making threats.
Thraxas gets hired by his old army commander to find a missing painting but everything goes haywire when the commander is found dead.

Thraxas finds himself at the center of a murder investigation when all he wants is to be at the chariot races gambling away.

At the stadium, Makri and Thraxas have to help an Orc lord who gets into trouble when his enemies sabotage his chariot. But helping the lord will not repair their reputation.

Turai is soon in despair as the city is nearly washed away by the unrelenting rain. With a cunning murderer, the authorities and climate set against him, will he be able to resolve the complex case?

Even more important, it is necessary for him to make a healthy profit from the chariot races.
