Mary Calmes is a bestselling author of paranormal and gay romance fiction from Lexington Kentucky. The author got her bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of the Pacific California.
Following her graduation, she would spend several years working in a variety of jobs. Calmes would then land at FedEx where she worked for nearly two decades before she quit to become a full-time author.

She published “Change of Heart” her debut work of fiction in 2009 and has since become one of the most prolific authors in the genre. Since her debut came out she has published more than 70 titles to her name.
Calmes has published more than ten series, at least twenty single-standing novels, several short stories, and novellas, and has even contributed to series by other authors.

Over the years, she has come to have the reputation of writing intriguingly happily ever afters with some intense characters. She is a huge believer in happily ever afters, romance, and the faith needed to get there.
She now makes her home in Kentucky where she lives with a five-pound furry ninja who acts as protection against neighbors’ dogs, spiders, and baby birds.

Like many authors, Mary Calmes began writing while she was very young. When she was just twelve, she got interested and started writing stories that usually had two men and rarely a female love interest.
Her mother often asked her where the girls were but it seems she was convinced from that very young age to write gay romance.

While she has since become popular and one of the most prolific authors in the gay and paranormal romance genre, she still does not consider herself a writer.

She often compares herself to the like of S.E. Hinton, Hemmingway, and Anne Rice and thinks that she still has a long way to go. Calmes thinks of herself as simply a person who writes.
While she began writing when she was just twelve, it would take several years before she penned her first work.

What triggered her imagination was seeing an ad for Gucci Pour Homme II with Mathias Lauridsen in 2007. She had stared at the beautiful man in the ad while walking through Dillard’s.
However, she never once thought about meeting the man but all she thought about was how beautiful his story could be. It was from this that was born the seed for Jory her first ever character.

Outside of her writing endeavors, Mary Calmes is a huge lover of movies and books.

She has read far too many books to count over the years but the one book that she thinks is her favorite has to be “One Hundred Years of Solitude.” On the romance side, she likes to read the likes of TJ Klune, Damon Suede, Rhys Ford, and Amy Lane.
In movies, she loves the primal fear, man vs man, friendship, love, and man vs nature in the movie “Jaws.” As for TV shows, her favorites have to be “Supernatural and Hawaii Five-O.
Calmes has said that if she was not a writer, she would probably still be employed at FedEx since she loved working with her coworkers a lot.

Mary Calmes’ novel “A Matter of Time Book I” introduces Jory Keyes, a man that loves to cruise the gay bars, drinking and picking up men for a one-night stand.
But then, he is the only witness to a brutal murder and the killer vows that he has to silence him so that his secret will not come out.

Surprisingly, he will not go into witness protection and this puts him at loggerheads with the very hot and very straight police detective Sam Kage.

Soon enough, passion is flaring between the two men leaving Sam in limbo as he has never considered himself gay. Just what will happen to his life and his career if he turns out to be gay?
As Jory comes under a lot of danger, Sam is sensing that nothing is what it seems and is determined to find the man after his forbidden newfound love.

We get to see Jory living his life as he interacts with Sam the police detective and Dane his boss who are the most important people in his life.

It makes for a captivating and fun read as Jory seems like the person who enamors every person he meets.

In “A Matter of Time Book II” the lead character, Sam is struggling with Jory’s neediness. At one time, he believed that his future would involve getting married to a woman and having the stereotypical family with children.

Meanwhile, Jory is fired by his boss Dane as the latter says that he wants him to embark on a career instead of just doing a job. To ensure Jory will always be part of his life, he makes him his brother and gives him the family name Harcourt.
Jory gets a job working as a graphic designer at Barrington where he works with a partner on major branding projects for clients.

Overall, Jory remained very casual about everything including death and life situations. He is also quite naive even if he is handsome and people never tire of reminding him of this fact.
In this work, we are also introduced to other characters aside from Sam and Dane.

Mary Calmes’ work “A Matter of Time Book III” is set three years following the tragic kidnapping and shooting of Jory Keyes. He had also been left by Detective Sam Kage his lover but through the challenges, he came out stronger.
After changing his name to Harcourt, he believed that his pain-filled past would remain in the past. Jory is now the owner of his own business and lives a very enjoyable life even though he lacks love.

He cannot make the deep connection he needs with another man the same way he did with Sam. But then a chance encounter brings them back together and Jory is at a loss at what steps to take.
However, Sam does not hesitate as all he wants is to have Jory back for good this time.

When Sam goes to deal with a crime scene deep in the night, Jory realizes that he is afraid not because he is emotionally vulnerable. But he cannot help but wonder why he feels so uneasy.
