Mary Roach is a bestselling author. She resides in New Hampshire and has appeared on television many times.

What Mary chooses to write about is unique and frequently engrossing. Her books are fascinating examinations of subjects that range from the science of human cadavers, supernatural connections to the afterlife, or even people and war as a topic.

Mary Roach has had her work featured in a number of publications in addition to book form. She has written pieces that have been printed in publications such as Outside, Wired, National Geographic, Discover, the Journal of Clinical Anatomy, and New Scientist.

She has also been a member of the Advisory Board at the Mars Institute. Mary has also served on the Usage Panel for the American Heritage Dictionary. Roach delivered a TED Talk in 2009 that served to make the 2011 TED Talk list of the top twenty most watched to that date.

Mary has also served as the guest editor for science and nature writing compilation. She has been a contender for the Royal Society Winton Prize, coming in as a finalist in 2014. This accomplished writer has also been the winner of the Engineering Journalism Award from the American Engineering Society. Roach admits that she was the only entrant, but that’s okay!

Mary Roach is the author of Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. This 2003 book has been through numerous reprints and has sold incredibly well, earning it several editions and a special spot in the library of popular culture. Believe it or not, we all have a little bit of morbid curiosity when it comes to death. The real question is, do we dare to indulge it?

Stiff is a book by Mary Roach that focuses on what happens to human bodies and the life that they have all their own once we die. You wouldn’t necessarily think that there is a whole science and story to tell about what happens to the human body and what people do when people have passed away, but if you think about it, this is something that human beings and various civilizations have been dealing with for years.

This is a book that takes the question of what happens to our bodies when we pass on and tackles it head first. While you may not want to read this book if you’re squeamish, hundreds of readers have not been able to resist picking it up while passing by in a book store or a library to see what this book is all about.

Cadavers have had an interesting history and Roach dives intrepidly into the concept of what happens to our bodies after we die. This world is explored carefully and with a fascinating look at not only the postmortem ‘lives’ of dead bodies but also their contribution to science in means both practical and fantastical.

Cadavers have been part of our culture for a long time and were used to give people the first understanding of anatomy as they were dissected and studied. They have been part of some of the most bold and strangest undertakings in the history of science. With intrigue and a factual approach, Mary has created a book just as engaging as its fascinating subject matter.

Even though bodies may have died, they still have helped make history. Amazing contributions and advancements have come through cadavers. Want to find out what they are? Then follow this author along on an informative and sometimes surprising ride through the history of the cadaver.

Spook is another compelling book from best selling author Mary Roach! When it comes to death, this author tackled the concept of what happens to our physical bodies when we die. This time, Roach turns her attention to the fascinating concept of whether or not there is an afterlife and a place that we go to when we die.

It’s a topic that has been covered countless times before on supernatural savvy programs such as Coast to Coast AM radio show or even pop culture staples such as The X-Files or Supernatural (both television shows that features plots that center around unusual or paranormal and supernatural creatures or forces as well as occasionally aliens).

Studies and polls have shown that more people believe in ghosts and the afterlife than anyone may have ever suspected. If you’ve ever wondered what really happens and goes on when we die, you’re not alone. Some people even believe that they have experienced it, having come shockingly close to leaving the mortal coil and then coming back to report what happened (they call these near death experiences, otherwise known or referred to as N.D.E.’s).

Some people think that when we pass on, we simply die and are laid to rest with our mortal remains. Others believe that they go to an afterlife or they go to meet the god or gods that they believe in. Others have their doubts and theories but are not willing to hedge their bets on something that they simply don’t know about.

There’s a saying that the only way to know for sure what happens when you die is to go through it. Is it possible that our bodies die but our souls go on, ensuring a preservation of who we are or some type of personality? If we go on, are we still able to essentially be ourselves?

If the afterlife does exist, what do people do there and how does time flow? Do you get to bring your material things with you or do they appear there– and are there electrical outlets? These are some of the questions that are dealt with in this incredibly detailed and enticing exploration into what happens to humans when they die.

This author interviews all manner of people that have come into contact with these types of questions and their evidence as to why or why not the human spirit lives on after the body has gone. Follow her along as she tries to find out from everyone from mediums to engineers and scientists what exactly they think is the truth. Read Spook by Mary Roach to experience this great book for yourself!
