May Sage’s debut novel is a fantastic start to a series that can be read as a standalone novel. The writing style flows nicely, making it a book to read in one sitting. The way the author characterizes her characters is attractive, especially with the heroine with her sweet and naughty side as well as Carter’s relationship with his mother. All the characters are well-fleshed out and engaging. As a reader, you will immensely enjoy that the relationship between Cassie and Carter isn’t based on sex. The two characters never immediately jump into bed in their first encounter. They first become friends before they can finally give in to their sexual attraction.
May Sage’s characterization is brilliantly done. First, Cassie Franklin is a timid, reticent employee at Harris Toys who is concealing a big secret. An accountant by day and bestselling author of erotic romance by night. When she had excess time at work, she resolved to create a romance to pass the time. A few years later, she published three bestsellers. Her shyness destroys her social life, but she still has a significant infatuation with Carter Harris, the Head of Harris Toys. When Carter Harris first meets Cassie, he finds her adorable and defenseless. He finds her timidity amusing, yet never invites her out because she is an employee and, for another, she is not his type. But when a fortuitous encounter in the breakroom with Cassie gives him a view of her secret identity, he cannot resist the temptation. Chloe is a survivor whom readers cannot help but adore as a protagonist as she struggles to find her place in a society she doesn’t fully comprehend. This narrative centers primarily on her and the measures she must take to move forward.

The storyline moves at a solid pace and develops tension to exhilarating and unsettling levels throughout the story, with surprising and stunning plot developments that keep the reader hooked to the pages. The story is set in an intriguing college environment (think Hogwarts for superheroes) and in an exciting realm of vampires and superheroes with different elements. It also has a dispute and an archenemy who have been building up intricate and sinister plans for quite some time, which readers will not want to miss. The mythology is strong, and the backstory is also very original, but the overall narrative possesses the comforting familiarity of a decent vampire story.

Kitty Cat is the first book in the Age of Night series by May Sage. In this world, humans are conscious of shapeshifters, but they do not yet place a great deal of trust in them. As with any unknown, it is scary until you know someone, which occurs a few times in this narrative. The clan of Raygan is under siege by wolves. Unknown motive notwithstanding, they won’t immediately stop until they are all eradicated. One of his pack’s mates is a Seer, and the portrayal of what’s to come is ample to prompt plans to evacuate the area. A wayward thought from the pack’s Beta is sufficient to lead them into the territory of a solitary shifter. One formidable shapeshifter who can pound butt and take names but is not what she appears on the surface. Raygan would use a variety of adjectives to describe Aisling, including snarky, headstrong, defiant, and seductive. With a temporary residence, a wolf family on their trail, and problems with his clan, Raygan has a lot on his plate. However, removing Aisling from his mind is tougher than he anticipated.

Aisling is angry to uncover this pride on her land. Even if she’s always pleased to see one group member, she would prefer to ignore them, but a certain aspect of the alpha attracts her in like catnip… and she is extremely addicted to catnip. She will fight what they are to one another until she can no longer do so. Aisling does have a few aces up her sleeve for when danger comes knocking on their door.
