Author Meg Cabot is a famous novelist from Bloomington, Indiana, United States. She has written several successful series in her career, in the Literature & Fiction, Young Adult, and Romance genres. Many of the novels of her series have featured in the New York Times Bestselling lists, which has increased her popularity as an established author.
Meg was born on February 1, 1967, in Bloomington as Meggin Patricia Cabot and was raised in the same city. As she was born in the astrological year of the Chinese Fire Horse, she was considered unlucky by some. However, no one was aware of her stigma until she became a teenager. The bad luck of the fire horse seemed to show its colors when Meg flunked twice in freshman Algebra.
She spent almost six years in the undergraduate course at the Indiana University and then moved to New York City to start her career as an illustrator. She failed miserably at that, too. During her freshman year, Meg had developed a hobby for writing stories and she decided to give it a try after seeing failures at absolutely everything that she attempted in her life by then.
At the beginning of her career, she faced many difficulties in trying to earn her living and pay the rent. Meg worked in various jobs in order to pay her rent, one of which included a 10-year stint as assistant manager of the dormitory at New York University, which consisted of 700 freshman beds.
As a successful author, Meg Cabot has written and published over 50 books for both teens and adults. Her novels have sold more than 15 million copies around the world and have frequently featured on top of the New York Times Bestseller List. She often uses different pseudonyms to write the different categories of novels. A few prominent ones include Patricia Cabot, Meggin Cabot and Jenny Carroll.
The most famous series written by Ms. Cabot is The Princess Diaries, which is quite popular throughout the world and has been published in more than 38 countries. The novels of the series have been made into movies by Disney Motion Pictures. She has also written the Mediator Series, which was adapted into a television series, as well as a few other teen and adult novel series. She has written a series for children called Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls.
The second book in the series is called Princess in the Spotlight. The book follows up on the events of the first book as Mia believes she has being a princess under control, but soon learns just how wrong she is. She is arranged a national television interview right on top of an unexpected announcement by her mother. Mia is also getting letters from a secret admirer, but that turns out to be no match for the royal intrigue she finds herself entangled in.
The success of her novels has allowed Meg Cabot to win several prestigious awards, including the New York Public Library Books Award, the Library Association of America Quick Pick Award, the TASL Book Award by the Tennessee Volunteer State, and the Evergreen Young Adult Book Award.
One of the prominent novel series’ written by Meg is the Mediator series. The series deals with a girl named Susannah Simon, or Suze, as she is often called. Suze is depicted as a mediator and is required to help ghosts complete their unfinished business on earth, so that they can move ahead with their afterlife. As a mediator, she has the ability to see, communicate with, and touch the ghosts.
The Mediator series begins when her widowed mother marries a man named Andy Ackerman, which forces Suze to move to Carmel in California. Her bedroom is haunted by a male ghost, Jesse de Silva, who died 150 years previously. Until then, she was not aware of the fact that she was a mediator, only to be told by a fortuneteller in New York.
The initial books of the series were written by Meg under the pen name Jenny Carroll. Later, she republished them under her real name. The first novel of the Mediator series, Shadowland, was published in 2000 by Avon and was set in Carmel, California, United States.
