Everything I Needed to Know About Being a Girl I Learned From Judy Blume(2007)Description / Buy at Amazon

A best-selling American writer, the author Megan Crane is admired by both critics and the general public alike. Focusing on women’s fiction, young adult novels, and romance, she is a leading figure within her particular field. Not only that, but she has also won a number of awards over the years for her various contributions as well.

Early and Personal Life

Born in 1973 in Houston, Texas, in the United States of America, Megan Crane grew up with a keen interest in both reading and writing. Taking in inspiration from her surrounding environment, she harbored her interest from a young age and throughout her childhood. Nurturing it over the years, she then proceeded to take it forwards, as she managed to hone and refine her craft.

Educating herself she went to graduate school with the express intention of getting into creative writing as a profession. Learning it as an art-form, she gave herself the academic underpinning required to take her chosen career forwards. This then formed the basis required, allowing her to develop both her style and her tone over the following years to come.

Working for some time as a professor as well, she would also teach creative writing too, something which benefited her as well. Providing her with some insight into her own thought processes and how she works as a writer, it allowed her to become a far more articulate writer. Combining academia with a love for entertainment that’s engaging on a visceral level, she’s keenly self-aware of her and her material.

Still writing to this present day, she continues to put out work on a regular basis as a full-time author. Working under the pseudonym Caitlin Crews as well, she has become an extremely versatile and gifted novelist of clear and engaging fiction. With plenty more titles set to be released on the horizon, there’s a lot more to come from her as an author yet.

Writing Career

Making her debut back in 2004, she made her entry on to the literary scene with the novel ‘English as a Second Language’. This was a warmly funny title that helped endear her to a number of readers worldwide, and establish her name as one to watch. Setting up a lot of her key ideas and themes, it’s definitely one to revisit for her many fans, as it shows a clear line of development to where she currently is today.

With three franchises in her backlog of work so far, she is always adding to them, keeping them going throughout her career. Having brought out ‘The Montana Millionaires’, ‘The Edge’ and ‘The Devil’s Keepers’, she has made a long and extensive name for herself. Clearly knowing who she is as a writer, she always manages to deliver, something which her many fans have come to appreciate over the years.

Gaining a nomination for the RITA Award for Best Romance Novella, she is not without critical acclaim either. Whilst she is appreciated on a commercial level, with many of her titles achieving best-selling status, she has also managed to win over the critics too. As she has become a global success with her books reaching an international level of acclaim as well as a national one, she has definitely managed to gain the respect of both her many peers and contemporaries alike.

Writing under the name of Caitlin as well, she also happens to go by this pseudonym for various novels too. A keen fan of the theater too, with previous aspirations towards starring on Broadway, this is something that’s also reflected heavily on her career. With a keen insight into character and what makes people tick, she is able to create witty and engaging characters that resonate with her readers.

With a lot more to come as an author, she continues to write to this present day, something which she will carry on for some time yet. Utilizing the tools of her trade extremely well, she is an adept writer who understands the romance genre, taking it in new directions in the process. Showing no signs of stopping anytime soon, there’s a lot more titles set on the horizon, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength.

English as a Second Language

First published in 2004 on the 1st of August, this was initially brought out through the Grand Central Publishing label. This was the debut novel from Megan Crane as a full-time author, thus marking her arrival on the literary scene. Setting up the style and the tone of much of what was to follow, it establishes her name well, giving readers a clear idea of what she’s about.

Stuck in a dead-end job, Alexandra Brennan is sick and tired of New York City and, not only that, but she keeps accidentally running into an ex-boyfriend of hers. Then he tells her she’ll never get into graduate school in England so she ends up doing just that, all before heading off over to London. It is here that she finds what she feels could possibly be a new home for her in amongst all the reading and the music. Will she be able to make a new life for herself? Can she escape New York? Is she able to learn English as a second language?

Names My Sisters Call Me

Originally brought out through the 5 Spot publishing label in 2008 on the 11th of April, this was one of the later works from Megan Crane. With her writing career already well underway by this point, it shows an author who is clearly confident and in charge of her craft. Giving her fans what they want, it’s also an ideal place for newcomers to discover her work as well, being an easy and accessible read.

Starting out with three sisters; Norah, Courtney and Raine Cassel, it tells of their story as they come into conflict with one another. Being entirely different, their personalities clash, such as Norah, who is the oldest, and also most obsessive, with her wedding day being destroyed by Raine, the middle sister and wild-child, over six years ago, something she still hasn’t forgiven her for. Then there’s Courtney, the youngest sister who gets driven crazy by their constant bickering, as she attempts to build bridges. Will Norah ever forgive Rain? Can Courtney ever hope to build the bond between them? What happens when they ask what are the names my sisters call me?
