About Melinda Woodhall

American author Melinda Woodhall is well known for writing creative and interesting crime and thriller novels. Filling her books with tension and suspense, she really manages to create an air of excitement surrounding each of her novels, Capturing a real air of mystery, they set themselves apart, really allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in her world. Keeping them constantly turning the page too, she ensures that they’re kept guessing every single step of the way throughout.

Her books are taut and well paced, with vivid and descriptives visuals used to make a point, as nothing is wasted. Discovering her own unique formula in effect, Woodhall creates stories that say something entirely different and unique. Knowing her audience well too, she understands exactly what they’re looking for when it comes to her writing, giving them precisely what they want. This approach isn’t to say that she doesn’t provide plenty of surprises too, as there’s numerous twists and turns featured throughout.

The characters that she creates are also well drawn, as they really feel alive in the manner they’re portrayed to the audience. Many of her books also contain a certain degree of romance, which provides her characters with another key facet to give them depth. She really does understand the template of the genre, whether it’s the crime thriller or the police-procedural, ultimately making it her own in the process. With so much more to follow in the future too, she definitely won’t be stopping any time soon either, as there’s a lot more on the horizon.

Early and Personal Life

Born in the United States, Melinda Woodhall would always show a keen interest in both reading as well as writing. Really immersing herself in her love of the craft of storytelling, she would develop her voice over the years, refining and honing her style. Constantly coming back to it, she would eventually come to find her own voice, and one which many others would also come to appreciate.

Previously working in corporate software sales, she would, in time, turn to writing thriller novels full-time, eventually leaving her job. Always on the lookout for her next big idea, she also enjoys gardening and reading, as she draws inspiration from the world around her. Currently living in Orlando, she’s a native to Florida, as she lives with her family, and continues to write to this present day.

Writing Career

Starting out back in 2018, the first novel that Melinda Woodhall would release was also the beginning of her first series. Titled ‘The River Girls,’ it would also be the first novel in her ‘Mercy Harbor’ series of novels, as there would be three more the following year. Other series would include her ‘Veronica Lee Thriller’ series, and her ‘Detective Nessa Ainsley’ series of novels too.

She’s also well known and equally well regarded for writing contemporary women’s fiction under the pen-name of M.M. Arvin. This versatility has seen her become greatly admired all over the world, achieving huge amounts of success far and wide. Maintaining a strong profile and presence both online and off, she continues to draw in fans, with her audience continually growing day-by-day.

Girls Who Lie

First coming out through the ‘Creative Magnolia’ publishing label, this would initially see its release back in 2019 on the 23rd of November. The fourth book in the ‘Mercy Bay Thriller’ series of novels, this continues on from the last, with another self-contained mystery that can be read as a stand-alone. With the books all taking place in the Florida town of Willow Bay, they all use the same location, whilst also all having Detective Nessa Ainsley as the leading investigator.

Uncovering clues as to the identity of a serial-killer stalking the women of Willow Bay, a reporter puts herself in harm’s way. Stepping on to the scene is Detective Nessa Ainsley, as she must find the killer before it’s too late, vowing to take down the Willow Bay Stalker before they strike again. Then there’s Eden Winthrop who’s opened up her shelter to two of the stalker’s victims, only to discover a dark link between the shelter and the killer. Will she be able to discover the truth before it’s too late, can Nessa find the killer before they strike again, and what will become of the girls who lie?

This book is another great entry in the Mercy Harbor thriller series, really making the most of the compelling premise. There’s a lot lurking under the surface here, and it really does ensure that the reader is kept constantly guessing the whole way. With strong characters too, there’s a lot to really enjoy, as everyone seems to have their own unique and distinctive personality.

Her Silent Spring

Once again published through the ‘Creative Magnolia’ publishing imprint, this first arrived on the literary scene back in 2020. Published on the 5th of December, it would be met by an already eagerly awaiting audience, with it being the fourth book in the ‘Veronica Lee Thriller’ series. Following on from the previous three books, they don’t need to be read in order necessarily, as they do feature stand-alone mysteries.

Looking to uncover the truth about an online network of brutal predators, Investigative Reporter Veronica Lee looks to find those responsible for the disappearance of a young woman. Occurring in Kentucky, the dark past of Veronica then leads the FBI to discover the remains of young woman who went missing decades earlier. Now Veronica finds herself on the trail of a killer, which takes her back to her small home-town in Florida, as she attempts to uncover the truth. Will she be able to find out what’s really going on, can she bring the killer to justice, and what will become of her silent spring?

While these books can be read on their own, it’s best that they’re read in order, as it really is a series that deliver when read in full. From the characters to the compelling premise, this provides plenty of suspense and tension at every stage throughout. There’s constantly a reason to keep turning the page here, continually inviting the reader back for just one more chapter.
