Born on January 19th, Melissa Brayden grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and continues to live there, after moving back once she graduated from college. She was brought up in an Air Force family, living in England on the American Air Force base for a time. In her late 30’s, she is the youngest of three daughters, the middle daughter being six years older and the eldest daughter being eight years older than she. Brayden is a writer of lesbian romance novels and she currently has seven stand alone books under her belt with an eighth book in the process of being written. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in speech communication and film production from Baylor University. After ten years since earning her Bachelor’s degree, she went back to college and is currently working on her MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in directing from Texas State University. She is currently employed full time, being a theater director for the performing arts center of one of the largest high schools in Texas. This is a job that she absolutely loves.

Being an avid reader, Melissa Brayden realized her love of creative writing a few years ago to which she started writing lesbian romance novels, the first one called, Waiting In The Wings and the second book called, Heart Block. Even though she hasn’t always been a writer, she has always loved telling stories in one medium or another, either through directing, acting, filming documentaries or writing raps (as in the songs). It wasn’t until 2009 that Brayden started writing novels. When writing romance novels, she doesn’t usually plan the books that she is writing at the time, but she writes by the seat of her pants, taking it one day at a time. But as she gets more experienced at writing, with every book she writes, there is more planning involved in constructing the plot. She is an award-winning author. She won the Goldie Award, twice, once for being an outstanding debut author and the second time for writing a Traditional Contemporary Romance in 2012. In 2013, she won the Goldies Award again for Traditional Contemporary Romance.

Although Brayden hasn’t written a romance series, she has written several stand alone novels. The two oldest books are Waiting In The Wings and Heart Block. Waiting in the Wings was published in September 2011. The main character named Jenna McGovern has taken her entire life preparing for career on the stage. She has taken voice lessons, dance classes, and has earned a degree from one of the most prestigious performance/musical theater programs in the country. At the graduation ceremony, she’s shocked when a lucky opportunity to audition earns her an excellent supporting acting job in a popular Broadway touring production. But the more exciting news is that Jenna discovers that the critically acclaimed television star Adrienne Kenyon is headlining the touring production. Jenna easily and readily adapts to a life on tour, with a bright acting career awaiting her in the future, if she makes all the right moves and does the right things. She has hoped and planned for this opportunity her whole life and will let nothing prevent her from achieving her dream. The one thing she didn’t plan on that could interfere in her way to having a successful acting career was her involvement with Adrienne. Her new costar is beautiful, talented, generous, and the completely professional as a performer and she is absolutely taken with her. As the two women become closer, professionally and personally, they need to learn to make accommodations for each other in their exhausting lifestyles full of difficult and demanding decisions and the directions they are taking in their lives, which makes Jenna question herself and whether she is willing to sacrifice what she’s worked so hard for a chance at something more promising like a chance at a relationship with her co-star.

The second oldest book is called Heart Block which was published in November 2012. The main character named Sarah Matamoros had migrated from her home country of Mexico when she was only nine years old. Being an adult now, she is happy and proud of the life she created for herself in San Diego, California. She has a job with her mother’s house cleaning company during the day and spends her nights taking care of her eight year old daughter named Grace. Since she was a young girl, Emory Owen had several values pounded into her brain. One value is that success is of the utmost importance. Be the best at everything you do. Do everything you can to make it the top in whatever you choose to do. Emory had high expectations placed on her and she was expected to be successful in her chosen endeavor. Emory was born into a wealthy, upper crust family, and she never wanted for anything that money could buy in her life…until now. As it would happen she meets Sarah, who is hired to organize the family home, and her privileged, uneventful life is suddenly turned upside down. When the two women meet from two differing worlds, emotions run high, but will it be too much for both women to endure?

A very innovative author of lesbian romance, Melissa Brayden is outstanding at writing about traditional romance, but at the same time she pushes the boundaries of lesbian romance.
