Melissa Toppen is a bestselling author of romantic suspense and new adult romance from Cincinnati Ohio.
The author was born and brought up in Ohio, even though she currently makes her home in Cincinnati where she writes her novels. Toppen is married to her high school sweetheart and together they have two beautiful children three years apart.
The author published “Finding Kenley” her debut novel in 2014 and has never looked back since. As one of the most prolific authors in the genre, she now has more than forty works to her name spread across several series, single-standing novels, and even a collection of short stories.
She has said that she loves writing what she reads and hence she developed a soft spot for romance fiction over the years. As a teenager, she spent much of her time scribbling in notebooks as she penned all manner of song lyrics, poems, and stories.
In fact, she dreamed of making a career as an author during this time. Still, it was not until many years later, and now married that she decided to pursue her passion and become a published author. Her husband had been pressuring her to do it for several years as he clearly saw that she was talented.
Just to shut him up, she decided to give it a go and was surprised that it came very naturally to her. In less than two months, she was done writing her first manuscript and she was hooked. While her first work was very successful, it was not until she started writing full-time that she considered herself a writer.
As a reader, Melissa has also been influenced by books. Her biggest influence has to be Harry Potter, even though this seems strange given that she for the most part writes fantasy.
She was just a teenager when J.K. Rowling published “Harry Potter” and reading her novels, she learned how to bring a story to life. She believes that had it not been for J.K. and Harry Potter, she would not have been the author she is today.
When she is not spending time with family, she can usually be found attending rock concerts, hanging out with her girls, and reading romances. She particularly loves listening to “Blue October” and has a secret crush on Luke Bryan.
Melissa Toppen also loves to watch TV and is a huge fan of the shows such as “The Big Bang Theory,” “Big Brother,” “Homeland,” and “The Walking Dead” among many others. As for her foods, she loves Basil Wheat Thins and Sun-Dried Tomato.
She has said that if she was not a writer she would have probably been an actor. Even without any talent for singing, acting, and the stage, she has always been fascinated by the theater.
