Chronological Order of Mercy Watts Mysteries Books

The first of 6 Mercy Watts mysteries was released by A.W. Hartoin in 2013 while the latest was released in February 2015. The first of the series, A Good Man Gone, introduces the reader to the world of the Mercy Watts and her family. They seems to be a magnet for trouble and mysteries but together, especially with Mercy’s help, they are able to solve any crime that comes along their way. The first of the series is peppered with laughter as Mercy and her whole family investigates the mysterious death of the best friend of Mercy’s father. The second is a stand-alone book but follows the adventure of Mercy as murder seemed to follow her on her vacation to Honduras. The rest of the series follows the lives and adventures of the Watts family but each book has their unique twists and turn as they solve the mysteries seems to be following them wherever they go. Each of the series always offers new insights to the characters that readers will find fascinating, if not relate to, since the first time they were introduced in the first book so far.

Who is Mercy Watts

Mercy Watts is nurse by profession. She is very good at her job but seems to be even better at playing detective. She knows that she is a very capable nurse and loves caring for her patient that she is almost always reluctant to play detective. Nevertheless, perhaps because it simply runs on her blood, she is always drawn to solve mysteries, whether on the behest of her father or simply because the mysteries follow her wherever she goes. She is romantically involved with a doctor who works in the same hospital as she does. He is quite devoted to her although he seem to lack the time for proper caring relationship. Perhaps this is just as well because Mercy seem to be more attracted to solving crimes than wasting her time on romantic escapades.

Mercy’s Family, Including the Cats

Her father Tommy Watts is a retired police officer who now has his own private investigation agency. He is a good man and is a good private investigator. He often seeks Mercy’s help to assist him in solving crimes that he finds too perplexing or too taxing. Smart and funny, Tommy is well respected and quite capable but he simply cannot ignore the fact that her daughter has this unique ability to sense the facts behind every crime that they face. He also enjoys seeing himself in his daughter that he cannot stop asking for her help. In fact, sometimes he considers Mercy’s ability as something that she got from him. No one would argue with him on that matter, not even Mercy.

Mercy’s mother is Caroline Watts she is beautiful and nosy. She is Tommy’s assistant and is just as smart as her husband. While the rest of the family investigates the latest mystery, Caroline’s second job is keeping track on Mercy. She makes it a point to know what is happening to her daughter. In fact, she is on a perpetual stakeout when it comes to her daughter. She is quite funny and charming though that her actions and antics are endearing. Thus, Mercy although, sometimes annoyed by her mother’s nosiness, accepts her meddlesomeness with humor and fondness. For Caroline, knowing everything that is going on with her family so far, especially with her daughter, is more important than solving crimes. With the job asa family shadow, it makes her feel more superior to her husband. Of course, if you will ask Tommy, he would say that he is the boss and the head of the family.

Mercy’s family would not be complete without the Siamese cats. The cats are as part of the family as Mercy and her parents. The two Siamese cats have their own personalities and though they may not be as helpful in solving crimes, they sometimes somehow points the family to the right direction. They two cats are funny and smart and are perfect addition to the Watts family. In fact, even when it comes to the looks, they quite fit right with the family. They even match the gregariousness of Caroline and often, even her outfit of the day.

Mother Knows Best

Mercy and her mother Caroline turn head whenever they enter a room. Caroline is described as someone who looks very much like Marilyn Monroe, if not more attractive, and Mercy herself is not far behind. In fact, Mercy and her mother are both stunningly attractive, which makes their characters even more fascinating and funny. Their looks in real life would have helped them in solving crimes, but in the book, they often gets in the way, but in the funniest way. The cats are perfect complement to their looks that they can be seen as highlights to Mercy and Caroline’s attractiveness.

Her Father’s Daughter

Mercy Watts mysteries are mysteries despite the fact that there are parts that seem funny anecdotes of the Watts family. The family are funny and highly intelligent and when it comes to solving crimes, Mercy and her father are not your ordinary detectives. They both have the natural instinct when it comes to following leads and they both have the trademark “guts” of good investigator.Tommy is well respected and known as a good cop. Mercy, as the protagonist of the book, got all her talent and intelligence from his father. Her father seem to acknowledge this fact as he continues to force Mercy to help him solve crimes. Mercy on the other hand, seems to accept this fact which is why although she loves being a nurse, she keeps coming to back to help him.

With the looks of her mother and the brains of her father, Mercy is a funny and endearing character. But the readers would find her more than just beauty and brains. Mercy is a talented investigator and has a real knack for solving crimes despite the fact that she loves being a nurse than being a private investigator.
