Michelle M. Pillow is a self-professed author of all things romance, a title which has been confirmed multiple times by her accolades. Michelle has won a range of awards and is a best-selling author of the New York Times, USA Today, and Amazon. In 2009, the author also started a successful self-publishing company by way of ‘The Raven Books’ along with her colleague, Mandy M. Roth.
From an early age, Michelle was intrigued by elements of the supernatural as well as the world of science fiction, fixating on magic, ghostly beings, and other creatures of the paranormal variety. Once she discovered historical romance novels, it was only a matter of time before the author would conceive a work of fiction that would bridge the gap between the two worlds with incredible results. Explaining her prowess as a “hybrid author”, she has focused on the romance fiction genre, writing within a huge variety of sub-genres including paranormal, fantasy, and futuristic.
In order to fuel her writing, Michele has a keen interest on experiencing new things and enjoys a variety of activities as a testament to that. From watching movies to conducting paranormal investigations in wondrous buildings, she looks at the world with the inquisitive eye of an author who can knit stories with extraordinary characters who also allow her readers to take emotional journeys in detailed worlds with interwoven stories that spice things up around every page.
Losing one’s self in a world of imagination and wonder is very important to Michelle as she is the kind of person who likes to daydream and think about different universes and their infinite possibilities. Any fan of her work can attest to that fact as the worlds she crafts are not just full of creatures like shapeshifters, werewolves, and vampires but also filled with emotion, wonder, and characters who want to live their lives to the fullest, love as much as they can, and experience whatever else life has to offer. As she will gladly tell you, her dream is to participate in a horror movie in the role of a zombie or the stereotypical woman who passes away due to unfortunate circumstances in the beginning of the film.
Works by Michelle M. Pillow
Michelle’s first book was titled ‘The Mists of Midnight’, though she has since reworked it into ‘Forget Me Not’. The title revolves around the character of Isabel Drake, an independent young woman who does not abide to her parents’ wishes and refuses to be involved in an arranged marriage. In retaliation, her parents introduce her to Mr. Wenston, a man who is supposed to teach her everything about being a proper lady. The arrival of her tutor concedes with the arrival of restless spirits and Isabel needs to discover the truth about everything before it is too late.
The Dragon Lords series, and many of their subsequent spin-offs, contain some of the author’s best-selling novels. The series introduce us to otherworldly, dragon-shifting princes who want to find true love in the best of ways. As is tradition, the princes meet and choose a single mate for the rest of their lives over the course of a single night by following the details of an ancient ceremony which involves mask removals and crystal crashes. After finding their mate, the dragon-shifters never let go again. The problem is that their brides never seem to know the whole truth and usually find themselves inside an eternal romance for which they were not prepared for.
The first book of the series, The Barbarian Prince, is named after Prince Ualan, a man who follows the dragon-shifter traditions to the letter. The second major character is Morrigan Blake, an unsuspecting reporter who wanted to uncover the truth about the princes and their mating rituals. After Prince Ualan of Draig discovers Morrigan in the Breeding Festival, the two spend what Morrigan assumes is a single night of euphoria. What she does not know is that she is now bound to the prince as his eternal wife, a fact that does not sit well with the reporter. Morrigan does not wish to accept such a fate and the eponymous prince does everything in his power not to act as the barbarian she considers him to be.
The second book tells the tale of two other characters, Nadja Aleksander and Prince Olek. Nadja is the daughter of Doc Aleksander, an influential man that heads the Alliance for Planetary Wealth. When he attempts to arrange the marriage of his daughter to one of his esteemed colleagues, Nadja runs away to find true love in the arms of a common man, away from the public eye. To accomplish that, she boards on a ship and agrees to become a galaxy bride to a human male. As fate would have it, Prince Olek is present in the same Breeding Festival that Nadja attends. When his mating crystal glows directly at Nadja, Olek knows she is his life mate. Unfortunately for both, Nadja cannot allow herself to trust the prince until a series of events brings them closer together as both accept their course in the world.
The success of the Dragon Lords series is evident in multiple other series created by Michelle which all share the same universe. These includes Lords of the Var, Captured by a Dragon-Shifter, Space Lords, Zhang Dynasty, and a lot more. Lords of the Var departs from the theme of eternal love via institution of tradition as the cat-shifters of Var have been taught to focus on their royal duties and never to settle down for one woman. Of course, the universe has different plans for the royal family as well as their future brides. Despite their best efforts to avoid it, love is always waiting when they least expect it.
Though Michelle is a prominent romance writer, her writing skills have also allowed her to create beautifully crafted worlds full of fantastic creatures and characters as well as works of non-fiction. She also publishes fiction and non-fiction articles and photographs in the Paranormal Underground Magazine where she also conducts frequent interviews.
