About Michelle Willingham

The author Michelle Willingham is a world renowned author, largely due to her creative and inventive mystery novels. A highly prolific writer, she has published over forty books and counting, with her books being appreciated both nationally and internationally. Knowing her audience well, she’s a gifted writer who knows exactly what she wants to say, delivering her material in a straightforward manner. Her books are well regarded for being extremely entertaining, as she both entertains and compels her audience with her captivating stories.

Transporting people through her work, many of her books have a historical aspect to them, as they feature a lot of passion. With strong heroes and passionate relationships, her stories really understand the conventions of the genre, whilst simultaneously turning them on their head. There’s a lot running underneath each novel too, as Willingham has a lot of subtext to each story as well. This multilayered approach ensures that they work on a number of different levels, allowing the reader to really invest themselves in the narrative.

Using characters well too, Willingham also excels when it comes to character development, creating long lasting protagonists. Making an impact on the reader, she ensures that each of her characters is fully fleshed out with their own internal world, whoever they are. Everyone feels real within her novels, as they almost come alive off the page, speaking directly to the audience in a sense. Early and Personal Life

Growing up with a passion for the written word, Michelle Willingham would always have a keen interest in both reading and writing. Developing her craft from an early age, she would return to writing time and time again, writing her very first novel when she was just twelve. Moving all over the world as a child, she was brought up in a military household, living in Thailand, England, and Germany.

Teaching in a school for over eleven years, she would go on to retire in order to spend more time at home with her children. Becoming a writer, she would soon turn to writing full-time for a living, as her work would go on to become hugely popular worldwide. Currently living in south-eastern Virginia, she continues to write on a regular and consistent basis, and more is set to follow.

Writing Career

Beginning back in 2008, Michelle Willingham would start her literary career with the novel ‘Her Warrior Slave,’ which was a passionate historical romance. It was also the first in her soon to be much loved ‘MacEgan Brothers’ series of books, providing a different relationship with each novel. She’d also go on to publish numerous other series too, many of which were also historical romances set in different eras.

A few of her books would also contain elements of the paranormal too, as Willingham is also known for her versatility. Contributing to various different omnibus editions as well, she’s written alongside many other writers in the field, making her an integral part of the community. Having a key presence both online and off, she continues to write, as her audience grows around the world day-by-day.

Warriors in Winter

Originally coming out in 2012 on the 13th of November, this would be published through the ‘Harlequin’ publishing label. It’s a historical romance novel set during the Viking era, with it taking place during the Winter season, as they celebrate the festive season in their own way. The seventh book in the ‘MacEgan Brothers’ series of books, it carries on with another self-contained title, whilst also featuring elements from previous books.

Still dealing with the death of her husband, Brianna MacEgan is highly obsessed with avenging his death, despite the distractions posed by Arturo de Manzano. Rescued by a fierce Viking, Rhiannon MacEgan was lost in a snowstorm, as she finds a potential soulmate in Kaall, who is both blind and the enemy of her cousin. Finally Adriana de Manzano and Liam MacEgan are betrothed to one another, but she’s hiding the terrible secret of a betrayal that was forced upon her whilst in the Holy Land. How are these three stories connected, will they all manage to get what they truly want, and what will become of the warriors of winter?

An entertaining novel, it’s also accurate with close attention paid to detail, making this a great inclusion into the historical romance genre. The characters are all well managed too, as they really feel alive, whilst also resonating with the reader despite the time-period as well. It’s easy to read and the books don’t need to be read in order, although there are some elements that are brought over for returning fans.

A Rake of Her Own

Part of the ‘Forbidden Weddings’ series of novels, this book would be the third, and they would each follow on from each other thematically. First coming out in 2020 on the 22nd of May, this would feature a stand-alone romance that could casually be read by itself. Coming out on the Kindle platform, it’s got a lot to offer with it being in the historical romance genre once again.

Betrothed to an almost stranger by her ever controlling mother, Ariadne Cushing is doing whatever it takes to avoid being engaged. Then there’s Evan Middleton, a roguish rake who’s facing the ruin of his family, as he attempts to hide his poverty after his father becomes riddled with debt. The two of them strike a deal that will suit them both, but soon this arrangement takes in a factor that neither of them bargained for. Will they both be able to get what they want from the deal, can they overcome their differences, and what will become of Ariadne as she discovers a rake of her own?

This is a shorter novella length story, but it still really works, as it feels complete, providing everything for the characters. The story itself is well told with good pacing, making for a simple and straightforward read that delivers exactly what it sets out to do. With fun and engaging characters too, the audience really cares for them, allowing them to become fully invested in their plight and romance.
