Mike Faricy is an award-winning American writer of crime fiction, thriller, humor, and mystery novels. He is known to have written several mind-blowing book series in his career. Some of the popular book series written by him include the Dev Haskell series, the Hotshot series, the Corridor Man series, and the Jack Dillon Dublin series. The latter was written by Faricy in collaboration with Patrick Emmett. Sometimes, Faricy uses the pen name of Nick James to write stories in different genres. Author Faricy was born and brought in St. Paul, Minnesota, United States. He still lives in his hometown and also owns a house in Dublin, Ireland. Before trying his luck in the field of writing, Faricy tried his hand in numerous other professions. He has worked as a freelance journalist, soldier, bartender, designer cakes’ seller, painter, and owned a company that dealt with painting and decoration. He is also associated with an Irish band in which he plays bagpipes.

The highlight of Faricy’s career is the long-running Dev Haskell Mysteries series. This series features the chief protagonist in the form of a private investigator named Devlin Haskell. All the books penned by Faricy can be read as standalone novels. Even the books in his novel series can be read in any order. It is often said about Faricy’s books that they are filled with the oddballs that readers are always curious to read about. His lead characters are not shown trying to save the world from international conspiracies, terrorism, banking conspiracies, or coups to bring down the government. Instead, they are seen inhabiting a world placed just below a polite society’s surface. Faricy likes to describe characters that have their feet placed on either side of the law. It is seen that such characters find themselves in unfavorable circumstances mostly due to their bad decisions. They like to be seen as a warning rather than an example.

Author Faricy has been labeled as the hottest new writer of mystery stories by Dirty Lowdown. He has also been referred to as the Master of Bizarre of Minnesota. Likewise, various other critics have spoken words of praise for author Faricy because of his excellent writing skills and storytelling abilities. Following the tremendous success of his Dev Haskell novels, Faricy began writing another mystery series called Corridor Man. He used the pseudonym of Nick James to write this particular series and maintained that the books of this series should be read in the chronological order in order to understand the stories better. Faricy’s novels have held the number one slot in many countries’ Kindle Stories, including Australia, UK, India, US, and Canada. Also, his books have won several prestigious literary awards and have been nominated for many other awards and prizes.

Faricy’s Dev Haskell stories are penned with a delightful sense of humor and a little bit of romance. Dev Haskell is seen as a corner cutting, back-slapping, babe magnet. He is surrounded by a number of other quirky characters such as Mr. Swirlee, Tubby Gustafson, Freddie Zimmerman, Luscious Dixon, Swindle Lawless, Heide Bauer, etc. The tightly woven stories revolving around Devlin Haskell are reminiscent of Robert B. Parker’s style of storytelling. In the Corridor Man novel series, Faricy has depicted more violence and more gritty tales. This series tells the story of a disbarred attorney named Bobby Custer. He is depicted as a psychopathic, greedy, neurotic, unprincipled, psychotic, narcissistic, and extremely charming. Faricy says that he has always been influenced by the works of authors like Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin, Elmore Leonard, Robert B. Parker, Carl Hiaasen, Stuart MacBride, Lawrence Block, etc., and always looks up to their work whenever he feels the need for some inspiration.

The Devlin Haskell Mysteries series written by author Mike Faricy is comprised of a total of 18 novels and 3 novellas released between 2011 and 2018. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘Russian Roulette’. It was released in 2011 as a Kindle book. This humorous, intriguing, and suspenseful book features Devlin Haskell in the role of a private investigator. He is joined by other essential characters such as Nikki, Kerri, Aaron LaZelle, etc. The book opens by showing that Devlin Haskell spends a night full of wild passion with his beautiful client named Kerri. The next morning, he wakes up with a bad hangover. While searching for an aspirin, he comes across a note left behind by Kerri.

In the note, Kerri asks for Devlin’s help to track down her sister Nikki. It is learned later that the two sisters are involved in a ring of human trafficking headed by a notorious and deadly Russian mobster named Braco. As Devlin Haskell begins to look for the missing Nikki, he faces resistance from Homeland Security, FBI, and local police. He gets injured with a bullet wound in the process and keeps changing hospitals in order to prevent himself from being found by the police. The case takes a bizarre turn when a psychotic and neurotic killer tries to kill Devlin. The intriguing mystery of this book keeps the readers on their toes and also provides them with a fair share of laughter.

Another interesting book penned in this series is called ‘Crickett’. It was published in 2014 by the Credit River publication. Faricy has featured the main characters in this novel as Karen Riley, Devlin Haskell, Daryl, Tubby Gustafson, Bulldog, etc. Initially, it is mentioned that Devlin Haskell comes across an old flame named Karen Riley in a bar. He realizes that Karen has changed completely. Now, she is known by the name Crickett and has a 10-month-old child named Oliver. Devlin looks into Karen’s personal to find out what has forced her to change so much. He learns that her former lover and the father of her child, Daryl, has been arrested for possession of drugs. Due to this, she is forced to work in a bar to make ends meet. Karen thinks that Daryl is innocent and that the drugs were planted on him. Devlin investigates further to discover that a local crime lord named Tubby Gustafson has a role to play in Daryl’s arrest. Things go downhill as Devlin runs for his own life when Tubby Gustafson finds out about his investigation. This book is also quite hilarious and suspenseful, making the readers remain intrigued until the last page.

I enjoyed all of your Jack Dillon Dublin Tales. Currently reading Dev Haskel books and find I like the Jack Dillon character far better. I also enjoy the Irish element in the books. Are you planning more Dillon stories? I hope so.

In any case, thanks for writing these books and helping keep me entertained. I’m one of those people who would rather read than watch television! I think there are fewer and fewer of these as time goes by but I’m hanging in!
