Knowing exactly what it is that readers are looking for, he manages to create vast and expansive universes through his novels. From there he invites his readers in, all whilst creating strong characters, with leading protagonists who are easy to relate to. This goes some way towards explaining how it has come to be that he has come such a long way in a relatively short amount of time.

Previously a journalist, he displays a highly defined sense of style, which can be seen through his attention to detail. Allowing the readers to really feel as if they’re a part of the narrative, he definitely manages to create worlds that come to life off the page. Whether he’s writing as Alex Rivers, or as his pseudonym Mike Omer, readers have come to find that he always delivers in terms of entertainment. Known for his witty take on the thriller genres, it is through his moniker of Mike Omer that he writes his thriller and crime novels. Keeping them true-to-life, he has taken his previous talents and put them into his work as an author of gritty realism and grounded protagonists, something that will carry on for some time to come.

Early and Personal Life

Growing up with a strong passion for both reading and writing, the future author to be Alex Rivers would nurture his love for the written word. This would continue throughout his formative years, as he would show a keen interest in the fantasy genre and everything that it had to offer. With a strong creative streak running throughout everything he would set his mind to, he would excel in a number of other areas too. Innovative as he was talented, he would become not only a journalist, but a CEO of his own independent company too, which would give him a whole wealth of experience and knowledge to work with. It would be crime fiction as well that would fuel his imagination, setting off a spark from within that would help establish him as the writer Mike Omer.

Previously working as a journalist, he would shape both his style and tone, creating his own unique voice in the process. This would then develop, as he went on to create ‘Loadingames’ becoming the CEO of his very own games development company, with him as a game developer. Using his experience here, he would become a highly versatile author having applied himself to a variety of creative mediums and platforms. Showing a clear love of fantasy and supernatural novels, he would start out within this field, all before moving on to crime fiction as Mike Omer. Currently still writing to this very day, he continues to maintain a strong presence both online and off, with a lot more set to arrive in the near future.

Writing Career

First arriving on the literary scene as Mike Omer in 2016 with the novel ‘Spider’s Web’, he would also start the ‘Glenmore Park Mystery’ series. In 2018 he would go on to start his second series titled the ‘Zoe Bentley Mystery’ series, which would start with the novel ‘A Killer’s Mind’. Both of these franchises would largely focus on the mystery thriller genre, all whilst injecting his own idiosyncratic wit into it all. Combining grounded characters with realistic situations, he was able to craft stories that would resonate with readers, regardless of their background. Whether his protagonists are the victims of crimes, or they perpetuate them themselves, likes to make them funny and engaging for readers.

Starting out with his fantasy novels, he would contribute to series such as the ‘Dark Fae FBI’ franchise, which he helped write alongside C. N. Crawford. This would help establish him as an author of fiction after his time working as a journalist, taking his writing career in a new direction. Making his name, he would develop his style, creating characters that would have a long lasting impact on his readers. Later creating novels of his own, he would move on to crime fiction as Mike Omer, thus marking another notable shift in his career. Now married with a child, he still continues to grow in stature, he has a lot more planned on the horizon, setting him up as a definite writer to watch for a long time yet.

Web of Fear

Marking the third part of the ‘Glenmore Park Mystery’ series, this continues on from the last with another stand-alone mystery. Initially released on the 5th of October in 2016, this would arrive to much acclaim, with another case in the infamous setting from before. With new characters and linked to the first, this takes the series in a whole new and exciting direction from the previous title.

With a ransom note going viral and a mother distraught over the kidnapping of her twelve year old daughter, she enlists Detective Hannah to help find her. Joining forces with the FBI, Hannah seeks to find the girl and bring her home safely, as things become even more frantic after images of the girl are posted on Instagram. Time is running out for the daughter Abigail, as it also appears that there’s more to the family than first meets the eye. Can Hannah find out in time? Where does the family of Abigail come into all this? What’s really going on in the web of fear?

A Killer’s Mind

Setting up the ‘Zoe Bentley Mystery’ series of novels, this provides the first case-file in the franchise, along with introducing the protagonist for the first time too. First released in 2018 on the 1st of August, this would initially be brought out through the ‘Thomas and Mercer’ publishing label. Establishing the franchise, it would set up the world whilst building the atmosphere and ambiance, allowing it to set up what’s to come in the following novels.

Three women from Chicago are found to be in a lifelike state having been murdered and embalmed, leaving FBI forensic psychologist Zoe Bentley to investigate. Teaming up with Special Agent Tatum Gray, the two of them must work together to find the killer, all whilst their personalities clash. Linking up the many connections, they must put together all the pieces in order to discover the truth behind it all. Will they be able to find the serial-killer and bring them to justice? What does a series of gruesome murders from Zoe’s childhood have to do with it all? Can they successfully head into a killer’s mind?

I absolutely loved reading the Zoe Bentley series. The way her mind works and how well the details wove a story that had me rushing to read each chapter. From Martin’s hilarious attitude, Zoe’s clinical yet vulnerable persona to Tatum’s quiet yet strong support they were so real. I sincerely hope there are more books written in this series.

You are a truly gifted writer. I found you on Audible and read your Zoe Bentley Series. Loved listening to them and looking forward to reading your Glenmore Park Mystery Series and the rest of your books. Thank you so much for bringing fun back to my life. 9 years ago I had a another hip replacement but didn’t wake up. A fat emboli bypassed being filtered by my heart and lungs. It went straight to my brain and caused a lot of damage. I woke up 5 days later as a 2 year old. No doctor knows anyone who has survived a fat emboli to the brain. They said my MRI looked like a paint gun had shot millions of little pieces of fat into my brain. After many years of every therapy possible I am able to listen and understand an audiobook. Since I can’t drive and loud sounds overwhelm me I never go out anywhere anymore. Long story short, authors like you are what keep people in my position from going nuts. Thank you so much for writing wonderful books. I really appreciate your hard work. Many thanks, Nancy McDermott
