Perfect Pitch
Perfect Pitch is the first book in The Diamond Brides series. The book stars Samantha Winger, a beauty queen, and D.J. Thomas, a great baseball player. Samantha is trying to launch her project, a music program for the young ones. For the program to be successful, all Samantha has to do is abide by the pageant rules- no drinking, smoking or romping in public. All is going well until Thomas awkwardly enters Samantha’s life. Thomas slams Samantha, and all this is caught in camera. It is something that comes right of his mouth, but one he immediately regrets. When Thomas is forced to apologize to Samantha in public, the two stars have an instant attraction.
After their public kiss, it doesn’t take long for the paparazzi to catch Sam and Thomas in a steamy session. This jeopardizes Sam’s music program, and once the pageant is aware that she has broken the morals clause, the beauty queen loses both her title and her program. This doesn’t discourage the ambitions girl. She continues to push for her dream even when the odds are not in her favor. Thomas also has enough troubles of his own as he tries to get out of his father’s shadow, create a name for himself, and raise his ten-year-old son. His attraction to Sam is also growing, and it is clear that the talented baseball player can no longer take charge of his emotions.
If you are a baseball fan, you will love this book. The chemistry between Sam and Thomas is undeniable from the start, and as the two lovebirds get to know each other, their feelings for each other grow even deeper. It is admirable how Thomas works hard to make his father proud as he navigates dating Sam with all the attention she elicits from the media. Samantha is a great heroine, and it is easy to connect with her. This woman proves now and again that she is more than a pretty face. Her dedication to taking music to children shows what a kind soul she is. Follow Samantha and Thomas as they try to work out of a relationship, and the challenges they encounter trying to hide their attraction from the press. Will their mutual attraction grow to anything more serious?
Perfect Pitch is a short yet good read about love, careers, and life in general. The love story is cute, funny, and at a point, heart-wrenching. It is admirable that Thomas is ready to apologize for his diss, and Samantha doesn’t make a huge deal over the issue once she gets her apology. At just about 180 pages in length, this book is short enough for a one-sitting reading. The romance is exhilarating, the flow is perfect, and the main characters will stay in your mind long after reading the book.
Girl’s Guide to Witchcraft
Girl’s Guide to Witchcraft is the first book in the Jane Madison series. The book features Jane Madison, a good girl who is giving up on the possibility of ever meeting her prince charming. Jane works as a reference librarian at a Colonial history library in D.C. You will first meet Jane as she is mooning over her imaginary boyfriend, a college professor who comes to the library every Monday morning. When her bosses decide that she and her colleagues should wear costumes to work, Jane wonders how she will manage to pull a sexy look with her costume. This is just the beginning of her troubles.
Soon after, Jane learns that the board is reducing her salary by a whopping 25%. On the bright side, Jane will be allowed to live rent-free in the cottage at the back of the library. While the cottage is nothing to write home about, Jane and her friend Melissa manage to polish it up into a cozy and comfortable abode. Jane has trouble sleeping on her first night in the house, and by chance, she bumps upon a hidden key. The key fits in a locked room in the basement, and when Jane opens it, she is thrown in a world she never thought possible.
After reading some words in one of the books in the hidden room, Jane discovers the power of magic. Driven by curiosity, Jane tries the magic book a few times, and soon enough, her wishes start coming true, starting with her desire to attract a man. By merely chanting some words, Jane manages to make herself irresistible, even to the men who had previously ignored her. Jane also discovers a spell that turns a cat into her familiar, a snarky, self-absorbed, and critical man. Her experiments also bring a grouchy and sexy warder determined to stop Jane from using the new-found magic. However, this is not something Jane is willing to let go without a fight.
Girl’s Guide to Witchcraft is a well-crafted story will fun characters, a steady pace, and a unique storyline. You are going to love interacting with Jane and meeting other characters, including Neko, Jane’s familiar, and her grandmother, a woman she loves deeply. Neko gives advice on hair, makeup, and relationships while Jane’s grandmother tries to guide her through the new path she has chosen. Jane is a bit irresponsible with the spells in the beginning, but she witnesses tremendous growth in the course of the book.
