Mira Grant is the pseudonym used by the famous American author Seanan McGuire, who likes to write her novels based on the horror, science fiction, and urban fantasy genres. She was born on January 5, 1978 in Martinez, California. For her prosperous writing career Grant was awarded with the John W Campbell Award in the year 2010 for being the Best New Writer. Since her debut in the year 2009, she has gone on to write and publish a number of detective and urban fantasy novels. Besides writing under her pen name, she also writes her novels under her original name. One of the novels written under her pen name was nominated for the Hugo Award in the year 2013 in the category of the Best Novel. In fact, she made a unique record that year after getting nominated for a total of 5 Hugo Awards, two for her works under her pen name Mira Grant and the remaining three under her original name. Author Grant was born and brought up in Northern Carolina and throughout her life until becoming a full time writer, she used to study the horror movies for most of the time of the day. As a young enthusiast, she was also interested in horrible viruses and the inevitable threats to the human beings from the living dead. While studying in her college, she was selected by majority voting as the most likely person to summon something very horrible in the Cornfield. Grant was also one of the founding members of the survival camp called as Horror Movie Sleep Away. As a member of the group, she has an unbreakable record of the maximum time spent to survive the scenario of the Swamp Cannibals.
As of today, author Grant lives happily in her crumbling farmhouse and has an assortment of horror movies, books on horrible diseases, cats, and comics. Whenever she is not busy with her latest writing works or developing the characters of her future novels, she can be often be seen splitting her free time in traveling, watching excess horror movies than required, and auditing the virology courses for colleges. Author Grant says that her favorite holiday spots include London, Seattle, and a large and haunted corn maze situated just outside the town of Huntsville in Alabama. She believes in keeping a machete under her bed while sleeping and also suggests everyone to do the same. Author Grant has mentioned in many of her interviews that her writings are greatly influenced by the successful writing works of the famous authors like Emma Bull, William Shakespeare, Stephen King, and Tanya Huff. She even likes to attend a number of fantasy and science fiction conventions. Very often, she attends them as a featured guest. Grant says that it is a lot of fun to attend a literary convention and is something that she immensely enjoys. Sometimes in her spare times, she tends to record original filk music in CDs. Other than that she is an active cartoonist, who draws an autobiographical web comic. In spite of all the things in her life to keep her very busy, author Grant always finds time to take long walks for hours, follow her blog writing, watch television shows, look after her website and go to theaters to watch any of the horror movies featuring terror, blood, attack, and night scenes. Many of the friends of author Grant believe that she does not sleep.
One of the novel series written by author Mira Grant is the Parasitology series, which is comprised of a total of 3 novels published between the years 2013 and 2015, The series is also famous by the name ‘Forced Evolutions’ series. The first novel in the series was published under the title ‘Parasite’ and was released by the Orbit publishing house in the year 2013. In the plot of this novel, the author has described the main characters in the form of Dr. Shanti Cale, Doctor Steven Banks, Sally Mitchell, and Nathan. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, the author has given the description of a decade in the future, in which humanity seems to survive without disease and sickness. The SymboGen Corporation described in the novel is depicted as a pioneering company which develops a genetically engineered worm. This biologically modified tapeworm serves as a humble parasite that keeps the disease away from the humans in the future world. When it is implanted in an individual, it protects him from illness and boosts his immune system. The parasite is also engineered to secrete some designer drugs. The operation of doing the biological modifications in the tapeworm to suit the human needs was so much successful that no one had ever imagined even in his wildest dreams. Now, after many years of the development of the helpful tapeworm, every individual seems to have it in his body and living with it. However, it is later revealed that the parasites are becoming restless as they want to live like they used to and so they will go to any extent, even harming the humans in which they thrive. The success of the novel allowed it to be nominated for the Goodreads Choice Award in the year 2013 in the category of the Best Horror Novel and the Hugo Award in the year 2014 in the category of the Best Novel.
The second novel of the series was published under the title ‘Symbiont’. It was released by the Orbit publishing house in the year 2014. The plot of this novel is set in San Francisco Bay Area, California, United States. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that tapeworms developed by the SymboGen Corporation for relieving the humans from sickness and disease have started to attack their host in the majority of the population, thereby turning them into ravenous hordes. Now, the corporation seems to be collecting those individuals who do not show signs of being afflicted by the parasites in order to quarantine them before the spreading of panic among the human beings. One of the characters of the novel named Sal and a few of her companions are given the task of discovering how the parasites are taking over the humans in which they are implanted, what is their goal, and how can they be stopped.

Such an impressive body of work and covering my favorite horror topics as well as favorite franchises. I’d love to order a signed copy of Feed as well as Parasite, but do to a permanent physical mobility issue, I am unable to attend conventions.
