Miranda Lee is an Australian author of contemporary romance novels that has written over 75 novels in the genre. Miranda was born in Port Macquarie, New South Wales in Australia, the last of four siblings. Her mother was a talented dressmaker and her father was a brilliant sportsman and a teacher at the local country school. She spent much of her formative years in Macquarie, before the family moved to Gosford, another pleasant town on the New South Wales Coast, much closer to the capital Sydney. Before the move to Sydney, Miranda had gotten a chance to play the cello in her convent school and she dabbled in this for a while before her interest shifted to the new technology of computers, which was taking the world by storm at the time. She would become a programmer and code for a while before life got in the way. She got married and had three children before moving to a semi-rural community where the family has bought a small piece of land. With no focus, she tried goat and horse breeding, and even greyhound training, all of which left her dissatisfied with her life.

She first got into writing because she was so bored of all the things she had tried, and the fact that she did not like to stay at home and depend on her husband for everything. While writing was not something that she has always wanted to do, she has always been a big fan of the movies and books. In fact, while she attended the Convent School, the other girls told her that she had a way with stories. As a young girl, she loved the classics such as “Wuthering Heights”, “Jane Eyre”, and “Anne of Green Gables”. As she got older, she got into other novels such as James Clavell’s “Shogun” and Ayn Rand’s “Fountainhead”, that is one of her favorite books of all time. “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is another that she loves a lot, and given her predilection for strong, intelligent but flawed characters, it is not a surprise that the trilogy is one of her favorites. Apart from the romance titles, she also loves fiction and includes the works of authors such as John Grisham, Jeffrey Archer, and Peny Vincenzi among her best books. She currently lives in Terrigal, a small seaside town an hour and a half from Sydney in New South Wales. When she is not writing, she loves to watch lifestyle programs, swim, read, go to a movie, or have a family barbecue.

Her first venture into writing was borne out of a suggestion from her sister Emma Darcy, who is also an author. Darcy suggested that she might have a good chance making it with romance fiction, which she could write at home. Similar to many writers, Miranda Lee took a decade of trial and error before she got her first romance novel “After the Affair” published in 1990. Given the novel’s success, her husband in a very bold move gave up his executive job to support his wife in her quest to become a professional writer. The family moved back to the Central Coast, where they could enjoy the surf and sun. Now a full-time writer, Miranda became a prolific writer averaging about four books a year. Her very first series of novels Hearts of Fire that had six titles was published in 9 months. She has slowed down considerably over the years due to family demands and other commitments, but still writes about two books a year.

Miranda’s trademark style is novels full of memorable story lines, real life characters, and pacy and sexy rhythm. The lead protagonists in her novels tend to be non-traditional heroines that are actually a little bit naughty. These are strong-willed women that know what they want and go for it. The heroines dress outrageously right to the edge of being considered cheap. What stands out about them though is that they do not care about sex and men seeing them as toys to be used and discarded. Nonetheless, these women have a taste and type of men they date. The men are typically snobby and rich men with a rakish reputation, who suddenly find themselves in the middle of the power plays played by women that use sex as a tool. For some of the heroines, financial security and a family is all that they want and need, even as they do not fall in love with the hero. However, given the alpha male status of the heroes, the sex is always explosive, racy, and sensual, and typically results in unbelievable chemistry between the two.

“A Secret Vengeance”, the first novel of the Secret Passions series of novels is an excellent novel from Miranda Lee with some great steamy scenes, superb dialogue, and intriguing characters. After the death of Lionel Freeman and his wife in a freak car accident, they leave their very huge estate to their son Luke. who idolized his father. What Luke does not know is that his father also left behind a heartbroken and not very wealthy mistress, Jessica Gilbert. Celia, Jessica’s daughter had always hated her the deceased Lionel, for the way he had used her mother for over two decades. As such, she is disgusted when Luke turns up at their lakeside home that they had been living in for years, and pretends to offer it as a gift to Gilbert. But despite her disgust for his actions what caught her off-guard was the fierce attraction she felt for the handsome Luke. Even as Luke is engaged, he feels an intense attraction to Celia, the daughter of his stepmother. Could this turn out to be a replay of his father’s terrible behavior that plagues his memory?

“The Secret Love Child” is the second novel of the Secret Passions series of novels full of sweet romance and hot sex and great chemistry. When the Isabel the heroine is introduced, she is done with dealing with the loser bad boys and now wants to settle down with a sensible man for a long-term relationship that could lead to marriage. When her sensible and rich fiancé abandons her, she decides not to waste the honeymoon period, preferring to spend it having sex with her wedding photographer, Rafe St. Vincent. But to her surprise, she finds that she actually loves having sex with the bachelor bad boy, who is not interested in babies, marriage or love. Isabel does not care much for marriage, love, or husband at this point and has made a decision to become a single mother. When she tells Rafe of her plans, he suddenly realizes that he has fallen in love with her and now wants to be the father of her children. Determined as he is, he knows it is not going to be easy, and he may just have to use sneaky and unethical practices to achieve his goals of making her his.
