Letting her work essentially speak for itself, she allows it to find its own space, with her intriguing premises that definitely stand-out. Constantly with countless surprise twists and turns, she has a way with words that’s quite unlike anything else out there. A truly idiosyncratic voice, she has own unique approach to the format, taking it in many new and interesting directions.
When it comes to creating characters MacLeod is also unsurpassed, instantly identifying what it is that makes people truly tick. Giving each of her protagonists a distinctive and idiosyncratic personality, she allows them to essentially inhabit their own space too. Coming alive on the page in a sense, they leave a powerful and lasting impression upon her readers, as they remain with them long after they’ve finished the book. This approach to writing is something that she will continue to build upon, as there’s a lot more still yet to come in the near future.
Early and Personal Life
Hailing from southern California originally, Miranda MacLeod would always be interested in both reading and writing. This interest was something she would develop from a young age, all while continuing to show an interest in other crafts as well. Spending much of her twenties in education, she would learn the art of theater costume making amongst other graduate degrees.
She would later go on to live in Boston, where she would work in a succession of office temp jobs, all the while continuing to write. Focusing on romantic comedies, she would develop her craft and passion as an author, before later turning to it full-time after writing her first novel for the National Novel Writing Month in 2015. Still currently writing to this very day, she continues to put out work regularly and consistently, as more and more from all over discover her work.
Writing Career
The first book that Miranda MacLeod would write was published in 2016, which was called ‘Telling Lies Online.’ It would be a stand-alone and it would go on to receive huge amounts of acclaim as time went on, followed by other similar stand-alone romantic comedies. She would also begin her first series in 2016 as well, starting with ‘Waltzing on the Danube,’ which would begin the ‘Americans Abroad’ series.
Other series she’d write would include ‘Love’s Encore’ and ‘London Love Story,’ writing some of her books alongside fellow author TB Markinson. She’d also go on to contribute to the ‘I Heart SapphFic Pride Collection,’ which would include her story ‘Take Two’ in 2022. Maintaining a presence both offline as well as on, she would continue to develop her voice, which she does to this day.
Telling Lies Online
First published in 2019 on the 1st of December, this would initially arrive through the ‘Apple Blossom Press’ imprint. A stand-alone romantic comedy, it would provide the literary debut of Miranda MacLeod as a first time author and novelist. Working with a self-contained romance at its heart, it’s easy to pick up, yet equally difficult to put down at the same time.
As a scientist Jamie Richards is usually reasonable, but everything changes after her dating app decides she’s a man and matches her with a woman across country. Claire Flores believes Jamie Flores is the man of her dreams, finally meeting a guy she’s actually attracted to, as she decides to head from Portland to Boston to meet up. Jamie meets her under the guise of being ‘Jay’s,’ the man Claire was expecting to meet, work-colleague, as Jamie tells her he couldn’t make it. How long will she be able to keep up the pretence though, can the two of them overcome this obstacle, and what will become of telling lies online?
The story itself is fun and light-hearted with a lot to keep the reader engaged, making for a highly entertaining story. Every single detail is paid attention to, as Miranda MacLeod really makes the most out of its extremely intriguing premise. The characters themselves are very well drawn, making for a compelling story that definitely has a lot to offer fans of the romantic comedy genre.
Stockholm Syndrome
Once again coming out through the ‘Apple Blossom Press’ outlet, this would provide the third book in the ‘Americans Abroad’ series. The books themselves are only thematically connected, so they don’t need to be read in order, as they each provide individual romances. It would come out on the 26th of October back in 2017, and it would capture the essence of what made the first two books work, while also working on its own merit as well.
Calling the wrong number believing it to be her secret agency’s emergency hotline, secret spy Leigh instead ends up calling a local radio pledge drive. This accident then in turn leads to her speaking to the office-temp and spy obsessed Amanda, who soon becomes her only hope for survival. Forced to reveal her true identity, it’s also revealed that there are answers in Stockholm, as there are Russian mobsters on Leigh’s tail. Will Amanda be able help her out of this predicament, can she sort the facts from the lies, and what will she find behind the Stockholm syndrome?
At the heart of it there’s another engaging romance as well, in what is a fun and entertaining story on every level. The spy element of the plot is well paced and fun, with plenty of twists and turn, while continually keeping the reader laughing. Constantly surprising the reader, it’s a must for both fans of the author and her work, as well as of the genre as a whole.
