The Lady and the Mountain Man comes first in the Mountain Dreams series. Leah Townsend’s father has just passed on, leaving his daughter a large inheritance. This young lady is to receive this inheritance on her twenty-third birthday the following year. She is also to marry Simon Talbert, her father’s wealthy associate, in six days. However, Leah’s plan for his daughter’s life doesn’t come to fruition. While attending a dinner with her soon-to-be-husband, Leah overhears him telling someone else of his plan to kill her. Simon is only interested in her inheritance, and he plans on eliminating her once he gets what he wants.

Leah is devastated to hear Simon’s plan. When Simon discovers that Leah knows the truth, he threatens her making it look like she has no choice. However, when Leah confides with a friend, God opens her eyes. She accepts a marriage proposal placed on the papers and ends up fleeing from Richmond, going through Virginia, Washington, Missouri, and finally to Montana. At the mountain ranch in Missouri, Leah is saddened to discover that her would-be husband had died thanks to a grizzly. His death had left this man’s brother, Gideon, sad, and his younger sister bitter. What is a woman to do when her husband dies before meeting her?

Gideon Bryant feels like the elements on these harsh mountains had taken too much from him. First, it was his parents and then his wife. Before he can even heal from his losses, his brother dies as well. While Gideon loves his untamed country, he is sad that it had also taken most of his loved ones. When Leah gets to the mountain ranch, she is met by these two heartbroken souls. Gideon is not ready to open his heart to this beautiful Easterner on their doorstep. However, thanks to an unfortunate accident, Leah is forced to stay on the ranch for months, and feelings start to develop between her and Gideon. Is this God’s will for these two?

The Lady and the Mountain Man is an exciting historical fiction story with characters who will stay in your mind for long. You cannot help but marvel at Leah’s travels and all the transportation forms she uses to get to her destination. Throughout her journey, it is amazing how she keeps on asking God for direction and guidance. Even when she gets to the ranch only to find her husband dead, she believes there is a reason why God wanted her there. It is refreshing having such a caring and kind protagonist. The storyline is also intriguing, not to mention the historical highlights that make this read like a true story.

This Treacherous Journey

This Treacherous Journey comes first in the Heart of the Mountains series. The book introduces Emma, a young lady who is widowed and going through a rough time. Emma is on the run after her deceased husband’s actions land her in trouble. Even though Emma wasn’t involved in her husband’s dirty dealings, no one wants to believe her. After narrowly escaping the angry townspeople, Emma knows that she has no choice but to find somewhere else to call home. Together with her twin brother Joseph, Emma sets on a journey to Canada through the mountain wilderness. She is heavily pregnant, so this is not going to be an easy journey for her.

Joseph accidentally falls from a cliff leaving him wounded. Emma is confused about what to do until she chances upon a strange mountain man. Simon has been living in this mountain wilderness for years. Since he lost his wife and twin children following his reckless decisions, Simon has been living alone in the wilderness. He believes that he deserves this kind of life thanks to his past mistakes. When he meets Emma, desperate for help, Simon wonders why God is making him relieve the past. Will he be making the right decisions this time around? Can he bear being around this city woman who reminds him so much of his late wife?

Emma wants Simeon to help her and Joseph travel through the mountain to Canada. Simon is glad to help, but when the journey turns more treacherous than he anticipated, he starts questioning his ability to keep these two siblings safe. Joseph is obviously weak and in no position to help, so Simeon will be working twice as hard considering Emma’s situation. Emma stirs something in Simeon that pushes him to work hard to be the man she needs. Can this woman also break the walls Simeon had built so high around his heart? Are the dangers they encounter on their journey going to break all the barriers in Simeon’s heart?

This Treacherous journey is quite an adventure. You will love exploring the Rocky Mountains with Emma, Joseph, and Simeon in all its untamed wilderness. The descriptions are so detailed it will feel like you are there with Emma, tackling one challenge after another. Emma is such a lovable character, and she and Simeon are like a match made in heaven. Her relationship with her brother is also admirable, and it is lovely how she cares for him when he is injured. It is clear that all characters have injuries, some physical and others emotional, that they need to heal. It is fun seeing them work to forget the past and become better people.

   My Mom and I absolutely love your books. Mom just started your Rocky Mountain series, I have some of them in paperback but most are kindle( Mom and I both love the books) Where can we find the Rocky Mountain Series in book form. Thank you

     Yes – as listed above, there is the sequel A Healer’s Promise which has already been released, and A Daughter’s Courage scheduled for November.
