Molly Green is a pseudonym by Fenella Forster, a sagas author. This talented author spent most of her younger years traveling the world. She was happy to work in all the places she visited, albeit for a short time. After going back to her home in Turnbridge, Wells, Kent, this British author set up an estate agency and operated it for about seventeen years. She later chose to focus her efforts on something she had always been passionate about- writing. Her debut novel, An Orphan in the Snow, was first published in 2017.

An Orphan’s War

An Orphan’s War tells the story of Maxine Grey and her experiences working as a nurse during the second world war. The story starts in Liverpool, 1940. Maxine has just been married to her childhood sweetheart Johnny but the young couple doesn’t enjoy much of a honeymoon. Johnny joins the army shortly after his wedding and is killed in action a few months later. Devastated and with her heartbroken, Maxine decides to complete her nursing course at St Thomas hospital. At least in this hospital, she would be doing her part in making a difference during the awful war.

At the hospital, Maxine finds comfort in the arms of a young surgeon named Edwin Blake. However, the relationship turns sour when Maxine realizes that Edwin is not what he seems. Maxine faces more heartache as the Blitz reaches the capital. She is already pregnant when her relationship with Edwin ends, and Maxine decides to give her baby up for adoption. Giving up her baby is hard enough, but Maxine sees no other way out. After giving birth, she heads back to Liverpool to start life afresh, but with a painful secret in her heart. Maxine finds another job, this time at a children’s orphanage, and is happy to serve those in need again.

Dr Barnardo’s orphanage is home to many orphans desperate for love and care. However, the orphans have no idea that Maxine needs them more than they do. This young nurse hopes that working with children would heal her heart. While this works for a while, her secret eventually comes out. How will everyone react when they hear about the baby she gave up for adoption? Can they accept her once they uncover her secret? Read this story to know what happens to Maxine. There are many historical truths in this tale. For example, the Barnardo Orphanages, started by an Irish Philanthropist, played a crucial role in keeping children safe during the war.

An Orphans’ War is a gripping tale of friendship, hope, love, and everything in between. The story is set in London and Liverpool at the height of the second world war. The happenings in the war are well captured. Following Maxine’s story, it is easy to see how the war affected all people, young and old. The descriptions are so detailed you can feel the fear in the air as the bombs drop, and many are left dead or seriously injured. While this story highlights some difficult times in history, it is not a sad story. The book is a perfect choice if you are looking for a light read. That saga on the lives of those working at Barnardo orphanage is intriguing enough to keep you turning the pages.

An Orphan in the Snow

An Orphan in the Snow introduces yet another woman working in Dr. Barnardo’s orphanage. June Lavender did not have an easy childhood. Growing up with her violent father was hard enough, and her mother died too young. The saddest thing happened when June’s younger sister died. Now all alone in the world, this young woman decided to leave for Liverpool. June accepts a job at the orphanage as a way of escaping her guilt and painful past. Since she failed in saving her sister from her violent father, Clara hopes that helping the children would ease her pain while making a difference in the world.

Life in the orphanage is not all rosy. The matron has no compassion, and everyone has to do things her way if they want to stay out of trouble. When June meets Flight Lieutenant Murray Andrews on the streets of Liverpool, she instantly falls in love with him. Can romance blossom between these two considering the bombs going off all around them? Will the young pilot stay long enough to establish a relationship with June? It is also refreshing reading about those orphans who find comfort in June’s hands. You cannot help but wonder what will happen to them when the war is over and June moves to do other things.

Lizzie is among the most outstanding characters in this story. When a fire wipes out hew whole family, Lizzie goes mute. Matron’s strictness and harsh words continue to traumatize her. The three-year-old girl has no one but June, who treats her with love just like her mother would if she were alive. You will love following Lizzie’s progress after June enters her life. The once shy girl who loved to sit alone in a corner becomes joyful and playful the more she interacts with June. June is a wonderful character. She is determined and brave, and despite her traumatic childhood, she is still willing to help those in need. There are also other stories of children who find solace in June and other kind souls at the orphanage.

An Orphan in the Snow is a captivating story that takes you back to the second world war. The story focuses on one woman working at the orphanage and the circumstances that pushed her to want to work with children. However, the author also introduces a few workers in the orphanage and the children who brighten their days. As the story progresses, the author lets you on some interesting facts about Matron and Jane’s families. Some historical events are also highlighted. The scenes are so vividly described you will feel like you are experiencing war hardships with these characters.
