Monica Murphy is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author from California that is best known for her young adult, romantic suspense, new adult and general romance fiction works.
She made her debut with the publishing of “Crave” the debut novel of the “Billionaire Bachelors” series of novels. Over the years, she has published more than fifty works of fiction that have sold more than a million copies and been translated into more than twelve languages across the globe.
While most of her novels have been published independently, she also has several traditionally published novels. Known for her constant attempts to be different, she penned some novels as Karen Erickson and these too would become USA Today bestselling romances.
Murphy loves to describe herself as a mother of three and wife who makes her home on the foothills of Yosemite on fourteen acres of land with her husband, kids, dog, and too many cats.
Monica began writing new adult romances as an experiment. Growing up and even as an adult, she always read new adult fiction and always thought why can I not write something like that?
One day she just had an idea that grabbed her by the throat and would not let go. She began writing it and just could not stop and this would ultimately result in “One Week Girlfriend.”
She made the decision to self-publish the novel just to see if people would like it and was surprised when the novel became a blockbuster.
While she had always written in other romance genres, she knew she had found her groove in new adult. These are now some of her favorite novels to write.
She loves writing new adult novels as they make it possible for her to remember the times when she was young; when she was nineteen years old, attending college, hanging out with friends working and even dating.
“One Week Girlfriend” by Monica Murphy tells of Fable Maguire and Drew Callahan who come from very different worlds but do seem like they have a lot in common.
Fable works as a waitress at the town’s bar while Drew is a football player at the local college. Drew has quite a reputation with college students most of who hang out at the bar to relax.
Fable works two jobs to support herself and her brother which is not the ideal situation for a young woman her age. Her mother should be supporting the family but all she does is sleep around with different men and go out every night.
For affection and intimacy, Fable is forced to turn to guys who give her the closeness she can never get at home.
Drew comes from a dysfunctional and beyond heartbreaking family and always tries to avoid the shame and guilt of his past finding escape in school and football. But then Drew has to go home for Thanksgiving and needs a pretend girlfriend for the week.
He approaches Fable and tells her he will give her $3000 for coming with him. She cannot turn him down but is wary and things are awkward at first. However the more time they spend together the more the tension and chemistry between the seems to heighten.
Monica Murphy’s novel “Second Chance Boyfriend” is set two months following the events of the debut novel of the series. Drew had brought her into his fake life but while they had some good time she later found out that he was hiding some dark secrets.
Ultimately, she had to break off the relationship even though she was very heartbroken. Fable and Drew are trying to move on following a bittersweet end to what had been a beautiful relationship.
Fable is working as hard as a slave so that she can get money to feed and sustain herself and Owen her brother. However, she still misses Drew and forgets their love but she is hot the type of woman that would wait forever for a man.
In the meantime, Drew is trying to get over his dark past and has been seeing a therapist. But nothing is easy and he cannot stop thinking about Fable even as he has recently isolated himself from the world. The two meet again by chance and the story comes back to life only for things to go wrong once again.
It is a fine story that continues to follow the cliched but topical theme but with an original and very unique air. Fable and Drew make for a lovable couple who between them have so much strength and love that makes for a hot story with intense chemistry.
“Three Broken Rules” by Monica Murphy is a spinoff of the character arc of the first two novels of the “One Week Girlfriend” series of novels. The leads in this novel are Colin and Jen who were introduced in the first two novels of the series.
They have known each other for years since Danny her brother was Colin’s best friend when they were growing up. Ever since Danny met a tragic end in Iraq, Colin and Jen have been having a hard time and they are both feeling regret and guilt but for different reasons.
Colin is feeling guilty as he never kept some promises he made and also one that he is trying to atone for. He had once promised Danny his best friend that he would take care of Jen if anything happened to him.
Since Jen was not in a good place, Colin steps in to help and they start living as friends and then he offers her a job at his restaurant.
Things were fine between them as Jen is grateful even if she feels like she is a burden. Over several weeks she begins developing feelings for Colin and being around him is pure torture and she knows she has to do something about it.
On his part, Colin cannot imagine not having Jen in his life and will do anything to ensure she is protected and safe. But will he give her himself which is the one thing she really wants?
