Mons Kallentoft is a Swedish author of fiction. He was born April 15, 1968, in Linkoping, Sweden. He says that he may have been born to be a storyteller because literature was not the first thing that he pursued in life. He grew up in a home located in a provincial town and his parents were working class. Instead of reading as books were rare in his home, Kallentoft would play football and ice hockey.

He was awarded a prestigious Swedish award for his first novel Pesetas. that is when he decided to try and take on the Scandinavian crime novel genre with his own unique twist. The result was the Malin Fors series and its first book saw immediate success, received huge praise from national critics, did well on the bestselling lists and has sold over 300,000 copies in just Sweden. The book is sold in multiple countries and even hit the Norwegian bestseller list.

Kallentoft found literature when he was confined to bed after a severe injury from sports when he was a teenager. It was then that he read the works of Hemingway, George Orwell, and Kafka, transporting him and showing him another world.

Kallentoft has worked in the advertising business and journalism. He has even been to Madrid– the shady side. It also helped inform his debut novel Pesetas, which came out in 2000. The novel deals with bank robbers and coke dealers living in the Spanish capital.

After a few novels came out like Marbella Club and the fun Attractive, Healthy & Spontaneous, and Food Noir (his travelogue and food essay), Kallentoft wanted to change things up and write a classic crime novel in the Scandinavian fashion, and the Detective Inspector Malin Fors series was born.

The Malin Fors series is a connection to Kallentoft and his culture. Set in his childhood home, away from the city, this crime novel series starts off with the compelling novel Midwinter Sacrifice (also known as Midwinter Blood). The second novel is called Summertime Death. The next book is called Autumn Killing. If you love mystery or crime novels you are going to be interested in these classic crime books with a Swedish twist.

There are eight novels in this series. Readers first meet Detective Malin Fors in Midwinter Sacrifice. These crime novels are full of action and never let up on the suspense. Pick up one after the other to see what thousands of readers have found so interesting about Mons Kallentoft’s storytelling!

Midwinter Sacrifice is the first book in the Malin Fors series, which some say Kallentoft was born to write! Malin Fors is first to be on the scene when a man is killed. The snow has covered any tracks that might have been left by the killer, but the victim remains behind. He is a man that is now dead that is hanging from one tree on the frozen plain naked.

It’s an undignified death, to be sure. Malin is a single mother and is 31 years old. She is also a detective with the Linkoping police force. While she is one of their most ambitious and talented, she is also slightly unpredictable. Having the responsibility of a full-time job dealing with dark things and having to raise a child all on your own can be tough sometimes, but Malin needs to do her best to head up this investigation and keep her personal life and her kid together and moving forward too.

It seems that no one even knows who the dead man is. Fors has little to go on and one by one the leads that she has have quietly gone dead. With nothing substantial to go on, this cop has to go on pure gut instinct. All she has are the voices and instincts in her head and stomach to keep her going and maybe, in the end, that’s all that she’ll need.

As Malin does her best to track down a killer and follow where they lead, she is going to find out that there are a lot of people in a small town that will do a lot to keep their secrets buried. Can she find the killer and survive the encounter? Or is there more waiting for her out there than she is ready for? Pick up Midwinter Sacrifice by Mons Kallentoft to find out!

Summertime Death is the sequel to Midwinter Blood, the first in the Detective Inspector Malin Fors series. This tough police lady is used to taking on gritty characters. It seems no matter what the season in these books from Mons Kallentoft, it is always a good time to kill. There is never a bad time to murder, as Detective Malin knows by now.

When the small town that she lives in is hit by a huge heat wave, it’s a recipe for disaster. Almost immediately, there are forest fires kicked up and the conditions have gone from risky to dangerous. The summer is hotter than any other one that the townspeople can remember, and now it is about to go from bad to worse.

Things hit the fan when a young girl in her teenage years is discovered bleeding and naked in a public city park. She doesn’t have any idea of what happened and no memory of the incident. That would be bad enough, but then another discovery is made on a lakeside beach. The whole town is on edge as they figure out that there is a serial killer somewhere close by.

All of the families in this small town are worried and begin withdrawing to protect their children. The Detective must do what she can to figure out what is going on and who is causing these deaths. However, she may be unwittingly putting herself and her family in the path of a killer by taking on the case.

Can Malin catch a killer? You’re going to have to read this exciting sequel in the Detective Inspector Malin Fors series to find out. Pick up a copy of Summertime Death (also known by the title Summer Death) to find out for yourself and catch all of the action personally!
