“Murder in the Mix” is a series of novels by Addison Moore, a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author of mystery, young adult romance, cozy mystery, young adult fantasy, and romance novels. The Californian born author’s work has been featured on “Cosmopolitan.” She currently makes her home in West California where she lives with her children and husband. Her husband is heavily involved in her writing and helps design and edit her book covers in addition to being her muse. While she is quite the author with several titles to her name she used to work a day job in a closed psychiatric ward where she is a therapist. It was only in the late 2000s when the institution shut down that she decided to become a full time author. She made her debut with “Ethereal” the first novel of the “Celestra” series of novels.

Addison Moore was always a huge lover of storytelling and reading and wrote her first story as a kindergarten girl. It was the story of a girl that got lost in the forest and encountered four bears. She never wrote much after that until her teenage years when she wrote bits and bobs that she never published. Once her institution shut down, she decided to self publish her own works as she found the publishers she approached too firm. Since she published her debut, she has gone on to become one of the most prolific authors with more than 100 titles to her name. She was lucky enough to make it big with “Celestra” her debut series of novels which remains her most successful to date. She published “Cutie Pies and Deadly Lies,” the debut novel of the “Murder in the Mix” series of novels in 2018.

“The Murder in the Mix” series of novels are about Lottie Lemon. She never had the best start in life as a few hours after she was born she had been abandoned at the fire station. Fortunately, she had been found by a firefighter that took her to his home and adopted her as his daughter. Several years later she grows up to become an amazing woman that is an exceptional baker whose pies no one can ever get enough of. The reason for this is that she had spent years in the kitchen making luscious treat for her adoptive parents. But she has been hiding a secret that could destroy her if it gets out. She is forced to leave New York, where she had moved and go back to Honey Hollow, the small town in Vermont due to an unexpected and devastating happening. While she has gone through hard times, she remains a quirky and funny character who sees dead pets which makes her quite the bizarre lead protagonist. Despite her quirks, she always seems to have a budding romance with one or two suitors all at once.

The first novel of the “Murder in the Mix” series “Cutie Pies and Deadly Lies” introduces Lottie Lemon who can see dead pets. For some reason, the fluffy and sweet paranormal creatures are a harbinger of what could happen for the person that previously owned them. As such, when she sees an orange cat going around her landlord’s ankles, she knows that Merilee was in for a bad time. It is a heartfelt romance that includes a murder mystery where the prime suspect is a sassy female. Small town baker Lottie Lemon specializes in caramel apple pies otherwise known as cutie pies. When Lemon discovers a dead body, she suddenly becomes the number one suspect as she has a history of bad blood with the dead man. While working to clear her name, she bumps into Noah Fox, a private investigator who is newly come into town. He tells her that maybe he should pose as her boyfriend as they try to resolve the murder case. But the closer they get to the truth, the more dangerous the case becomes. Will they be able to solve the case before Lottie becomes the next target?

“Bobbing for Bodies” the second novel of the series sees Lottie opening her bakery. She is also dating the private investigator Noah, even as Hunter her friend is discovered killed behind her bakery and her mother gets a new boyfriend. Lottie is still having a lot of issues in her relationship with Noah as the mystery takes a back seat. It seems that Hunter had some secrets and these may have been what had led to his death. Lottie is still keeping secrets from Noah but since she is spending more time with Noah’s step brother Everette. He is an expert at getting people to open up to him and he thinks he has figured out what Lottie is hiding. Over time, the relationship she has with Everette becomes very ambiguous and it is unclear if they will move from just friends to romantic partners. This would make for an interesting love triangle with Noah thrown into the mix. Still Lottie is concerned that Everette might not be the person that she thought he was.

“Pumpkin Spice Sacrifice” is an easy and light read that continues to follow the adventures of Lottie Lemon. She always seems to be stuck with the wrong guy but she will never give up. This time she has been given a contract to supply pastries to the award ceremony of some company and she could not be happier. But she had never expected one of the guests to drop down and die at the moment of receiving her award. Everett is fingered as the lead suspect but Lottie does not think he would-be capable of the crime and hence she begins her investigations. She soon finds herself in a lot more trouble as she starts falling in love with Everett’s brother. While she does her best to take their relationship to the next levels there are all manner of challenges in their path. She has to deal with uncountable suspects, the secretive sex life of a dead woman, and naked swim aerobics. Just who would have wanted to kill the woman and will she be able to resolve the mystery before it destroys Everett’s career?
