A writer blending sci-fi, erotic romance and suspense written by: dawoudw Nalini Singh, popular paranormal romance/sci-fi writer has produced quite a formidable repository of work in the last decade, many of which have been featured on the New York Times, USA Today, and other bestseller lists. Although it may be easy to think of Nalini Singh as a romance writer, this would only deprive one self of a wonderful collection of fascinating and deeply erotic sci-fi literature.

Of East Indian descent, Nalini Singh was born in the Fiji Islands but moved to New Zealand as a child and spent the great majority of her adult life there. Except for a few odd jobs here and there, and with a few years teaching in Japan, she has maintained New Zealand as her home. To date she has won numerous awards for her writings, most notably being the Sir Julius Vogel Award, which awarded twice, once in 2008 and again in 2009. Her collection of literature includes novels, novellas, as well as collections of short stories sometimes including new authors in collaboration with her. One such title worthy of mention and available as an e-book is “Angels’ Pawn”. This novella deals with the Guild Hunters, a series that appeared shortly after her Psy/Changeling series of books.

It would be easy to pigeon-hole Nalini Singh’s writing a some sort of high-tech romance with a bit of science-fiction thrown in. Certainly her debut publication “Desert Warrior” was a romance novel in all senses of the word, but even in that early work which was set in the Kingdom of Zulhiel, a desert kingdom with a hint of magic and the breath of fairytales, once can see the brilliance that has come to define her later works, particularly the Psy/Changeling series.

Beginning with the first book in the series, “Slave To Sensation”, Nalini Singh introduces to us the Psy, a race of people who have severed them selves from their emotions in order to prevent violent crime and insanity. They don’t know emotion or recognize it. Those who do will be subject to rehabilitation, which means the complete wiping of their brain, effectively erasing their memories and destroying their individual personalities.

Set alongside the Psy are the Changelings, creatures who are half-human, half-animal and can change in to either at will. They are beings with strong feelings and desires, coupled with the deep, primal need to be touched and a fierce allegiance to their pack. They view the Psy as their mortal enemy. The Psy regard the Changelings as below them. Many among the Psy feel that ultimately the Changelings would best be dealt with by being hunted down and killed off.

But unbeknownst to both races two people, Sascha Duncan, a Psy female and Lucas Hunter, a Changeling alpha, male meet, and things begin to happen between them that forever change the relationship between the Psy and the Changelings. And thus begins Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling Series of novels and novellas.

In the second book of the Psy/Changeling series, “Visions of Heat” we learn more about the Psy and how they have evolved. Among them are different types of people each with varying degrees of psychic power ranging from telekinesis, to teleportation, to seeing the future.

Enter Faith Night star, an F-Psy, the designation of those Psy who can see and predict the future. Having been trained to accept the Silence as the true way of the Psy she begins to unravel as her visions only confirm for her the truth of what she so desperately wants to escape, her aching need and haunting desire for physical pleasure.

Unfortunately for Faith, there exist people who are in need of her power for their own business schemes and nefarious agenda. They are determined not to allow Faith to enter into the world of physical pleasures and intimacy, lest it alter their plans to make themselves rich and dangerously powerful.

This is the setting that frames Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series of books, which all in all is fourteen novels and eight novellas.

Her Guild Hunter series of books weaves a tale that involves Angels, humans, vampires and Archangels. All stitched together in a tense battle for power, souls, love, with danger and suspense, and a dark eroticism all mixed in.

Beginning with “Angels Blood” down to the most current title “Archangels Legion the reader is captivated by Ms. Singh masterful ability to bring together disparate forces in a web of passion and intrigue.

Each title takes us in further into the domain of the Archangels who rule over earth not as benevolent creatures but as power-hungry warlords competing for territory and submission from humans and vampires alike.

What is interesting about the writings of Nalini Singh is her commitment to please her audiences and to keep them in suspense right up until the very end. That coupled with the fact that a reader will get a healthy dose of erotic romance each time they choose one of her books, is what keeps her fan base growing and her fans coming back again and again.

Of course her being a regular blogger and constantly updating her travel diary are certainly huge boosts to her popularity and to her book sales. Readers speak of the intimate relationship and bonds they feel with Nalini Singh and her characters and turn up in droves at her book singings all around the globe. Her books have been translated in to a dozen different languages, which is helping to boost her popularity outside of English speaking audiences.

With two if not three more titles slated to be published before the year is out readers loyal to the writings of Nalini Singh are waiting in anticipation, and rightfully so. She is a profound paranormal romance writer that aims to please her audience, not to tease.
