Nancy Ann Healy is an American author that writes lesbian fiction. Healy is best known for the ‘Alex and Cassidy’ series of political thrillers.

+Biography
Nancy Ann Healy is a multifaceted author with more talents than she knows what to do with. The author’s life revolves around her family, which includes her wife, Melissa, their son and the two dogs that share their home.

She came to fame when she wrote ‘Intersection’, the first novel in the Alex and Cassidy series and Healy’s debut work. The book introduces readers to Alexis Toles, a law enforcement agent who served under the current President of the United States back when they were in Iraq.

Alexis is summoned by president Merrow who tasks her with investigating a congressman who has been on the receiving end of a deluge of threatening letters. It is in the process of resolving the congressman’s situation that Alexis meets his ex-wife and finds love.

The rest of the novel is spent unraveling conspiracies and solving mysteries. Nancy Ann Healy decided to write the Alex and Cassidy series because she loves adventure, politics, and people, and the novels allowed her to tackle all those elements under a single umbrella.

It took Healy a while to find her footing in the publishing industry. She spent many years trying her hand at all manner of jobs and professions. She worked as a retail manager, a director of plays and a stage manager.

The theater ruled her life for a little while, so much so that she went to college and became a theater major. But then she had her son at the age of 21 and decided to leave school.

You won’t find the author complaining about all the meandering she did, though. The experiences she encountered along the way taught her so much about life and people and love.

She even went so far as to pursue a career as a comedian. She started in stand-up and then moved on to improvisational comedy. Improvisational comedy definitely appealed to her.

She loved all the collaborative activities, the work she did with other actors and comedians. But stand-up comedy eventually tickled fancy because it gave her the opportunity to practice creating and embodying new characters.

Nancy Ann Healy’s foray into publishing was slow. She had attempted to go back to school to study ministry. Her goal was to become a prison chaplain.

Along the way, she changed her mind and joined an Arizona State University program where she majored in social justice.

It was around that time that her desire to write manifested. The notion of writing novels hadn’t yet occurred to her.

Rather, she was preoccupied with her previous encounters with the theater. She wanted to write a play that delved into some of her personal experiences. But she didn’t know if she had what it took to get the job done.

Fortunately, her son suggested that she practice by writing fan fiction. Healy initially dismissed the idea. But then she saw merit in it and proceeded to write a story that resurrected the popular television character Xena, throwing her into a whole new adventure.

Healy’s readers were amazed by her story. And it wasn’t long after that many of them began encouraging her to produce something original. So Healy started brainstorming.

She created the characters of Alex and Cassidy, built the world she wanted them to inhabit and then wrote ‘Intersection’, her first novel. It took her quite a bit of effort to get it ready for publication.

She had to rely heavily on her friends to edit and proofread her manuscript. She relied primarily on individuals who properly understood editing, grammar, and the English language.

But even then, she will tell you that many mistakes still made it into the final draft of the manuscript.
Though, that did little to debilitate the novel’s success. Healy chose to self-publish ‘Intersection’ because she believed that the avenue would give her novel a better chance of reaching a mainstream audience.

She did not want to see the book get relegated to niche corners were it might never receive the attention and interest it deserved, and Healy was fairly certain that such an outcome would come about if she chose to work with an LGBT press.

Healy admits that her books are written primarily with female audiences and lesbians in mind. But she also believes that her story is strong and engaging enough to appeal to fans of the political thriller genre.

As a child, Healy hated the fact that the publishing industry had no protagonists that represented people like her. Healy wants her novels to give kids the role models she never had.

+Intersection
When FBI Agent Alexis Toles goes to New Rochelle in New York City, it is with the intention of giving Christopher O’Brien peace of mind. Christopher is a congressman and he has been receiving threatening letters.

Alexis was sent to New Rochelle by the president to protect Christopher, his ex-wife Cassidy and their son Dylan. And the FBI agent was ready to do just that. But then she met Cassidy and sparks began to fly between them.

Even as their romance grew, a complicated web of threats began to unravel. There were political agendas around every corner, stalkers with nefarious plans and seemingly immovable obstacles determined to derail Alex and Cassidy’s relationship.

But Alex was determined to stand her ground. Now, as the walls around them close in, Alexis will have to make a few difficult choices, decisions that will put people’s lives in danger.

+Betrayal
Alexis Toles encountered a frightening ordeal in the process of doing her job. But her partner and their son were on hand to help her heal. Now Alexis is back at work at the NSA and she wants to leave her trauma in the past.

However, her peace is shattered when her friend John Merrow, president of the United States, is assassinated. Alexis wants to mourn Merrow’s passing. However, his assassination is just the beginning.

Things are happening on a global stage but Alexis is distracted. She has to deal with the controversy surrounding her relationship with Cassidy even as a conspiracy spanning multiple governments comes to light.
