Working as a screenwriter as well as a novelist, the American author Nancy Haddock has created an impressive backlog over the course of her writing career. Largely focusing on romance infused with both mystery and the paranormal, she has managed to make a commercially successful name for herself over the years. This has lead to her becoming one of the foremost figures currently working within her industry to date, with reviewers and readers all singing her praises.
Early and Personal Life
Born in America the writer Nancy Haddock would become well known for her creative take on the mystery genre in the years to come. Growing up with a strong interest in the form, she would nurture it throughout the years, developing it as time went on. This would allow her to establish her own style and profile, ultimately creating something that was entirely new in the process.
Drawing from her own history, including both her personal history and the history that she grew up in, she was never short of ideas to work with. This included the history of her southern culture, along with that which her inspired her from other books and authors. Over time her ideas would develop and grow, allowing her to work on her material with far more rigor than ever before.
Starting out as a speech pathologist she would gain experience whilst working within the field, allowing her to develop her style. It would also allow her to get first-hand experience in communicating with others, something that was instrumental to her work. She would also work as a high-school teacher in Oklahoma, Texas, thus allowing her to further work on her craft as well.
Currently living with her husband to this day, they live together with their rescue dog Baron, as she continue to write full-time. Maintaining a strong presence both online and off, she has been able to create a profile within the industry that is well regarded for its historical accuracy. There’s still a lot more to come too, as she will carry on writing on into the foreseeable future for many years to come yet.
Writing Career
Starting off with the title ‘La Vida Vampire’, Nancy Haddock made her debut as an author all the way back in 2008. Since then she has come a long way over the years, progressing her form and her prose, whilst writing creative and compelling mysteries. This title was also the first in her ongoing series of ‘Oldest City Vampire’ novels, a franchise which has attracted the attention of many.
She has also created a variety of other series too, such as her highly popular ‘Silver Six Crafting Mystery’ series of novels. Alongside her ‘Oldest City Vampire’ novels, she is one of the most prolific authors currently combining both mystery and the paranormal at the moment. Setting up these franchises, she has effectively positioned herself as one of the leading figures within this field at this time.
Infusing elements of the paranormal with the mystery genre, she takes a variety of different styles and makes them work with each other. At home with the cozy mystery too, as seen with her ‘Silver Six Crafting Mystery’ series, she is able to build a level of suspense and intrigue too. Keeping the reader constantly guessing throughout, she is able to retain their interest holding them on the edge-of-their-seat continually.
Setting all of her light mystery novels within the vicinity of St. Augustine in Florida, she also maintains a sense of familiarity with her novels. The same is true with her characters, who are well developed and defined over the course of the various franchises as well. Knowing and understanding her craft she has managed to effectively build a strong and loyal following for herself.
Taking inspiration from a variety of different genres, she doesn’t restrict herself to any one style in particular, although she largely focuses herself on mystery and romance. Mixing this with the paranormal too, and she has managed to create a winning formula, which goes some way towards explaining how she has been so successful. Her ideas are definitely not in short supply either, as she really knows how to craft a best-seller, something which she will continue for quite some time to come.
Always the Vampire
Making up the third part in the ongoing ‘Oldest City Vampire’ series of novels, this provides another installment in the long-running franchise. Carrying on directly from the last it manages to capture the essence of what came before, whilst also building upon the overall world too. Initially brought out in 2011 it was first released on the 28th of March to much acclaim through the ‘Berkley’ publishing label.
Recently shirking her duties as the vampire princess, Cesca Marinelli hasn’t found it easy as the maid of honor in the Sunshine State. With Maggie’s Victorian wedding coming up it would seem that she has her work cut out for her, especially when her boyfriend Saber falls ill. Afflicted with the magical construct known only as the Void, Cesca finds it’s not only her boyfriend, but all the magical elements in her life that’s being affected. Can she stop it? Who will it affect next? What will it take as she finds herself always the vampire?
A Crime of Poison
Released through the ‘Berkley’ publishing outlet once more, this was to be the third title in the ‘Silver Six Craft Mystery’ series of books. Published on the 5th of December in 2017, this would provide yet another mystery set within the world of arts and crafts. Working as a stand-alone novel, it would carry on in much the same vein as before with the already firmly established characters and world, whilst offering a self-contained mystery to solve.
The Fall Folk Art Festival and Bake Sale has fallen upon Lilyvale in Arkansas, as it’s October with every local business set to benefit from it. All set to help manage the event six retirees, or the ‘Silver Six’, are all planning to manage the festival and that’s when trouble strikes. Cornell Lewis, the local troublemaker, is discovered dead, as members of the Silver Six themselves are accused of being involved. Will they be able to find the real killer before it’s too late? Can they keep the festival going in the meantime? Who would commit a crime of poison?
