Naomi Klein is an author. She is also a filmmaker and a social activist. She was born on May 8, 1970, in Montreal.

Klein was raised in a passionate and close-knit family that had a long history of activism for peace. Her parents were hippies that had moved from the United States to Montreal in 1967 due to resisting the Vietnam War. Her mother made films. She was particular known for her film that was made to protest against pornography. Her father was a physician.

.Her grandparents on her father’s side were communists previous to the second world war. They started to rethink it after the 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Her grandfather did work animating for the famous Disney company, but was let go after the strike the year before. He ended up finding work elsewhere. By the time 1956 rolled around, the family had decided that communism was not for them.

She is known for her critical eye that she casts over various topics, including capitalism, corporate globalization, and the industrial war machine. Klein is recognized for having a keen eye for making connections and explaining complicated concepts to an audience (her readers).

Even though she is a popular writer and more political today than the average person, Naomi embraced consumerism on a grand scale during her teenager years and loved wearing designed labels.Her attitude changed due to self-admitted life events. Klein says that her world view change came down to being due to two events. When she was seventeen years old, she was getting ready to go off to college like most other kids her age.

But as she was preparing to go, chance took a turn for the worse. Her mother had unfortunately had an accident– a stroke. As a result, she became severely disabled and she and her father and brother took turns taking care of her during that time. The other was a mass killing of female students studying engineering in 1989.

This author did not always start out writing full books to be published! She actually started off writing for the school newspaper. She would become an editor-in-chief on it. Klein left junior year to do the real thing instead of just toiling as a student. She worked at one company and then was the editor for another. She decided that she would go back to get her degree, but it just didn’t work out. Then she left to pursue another opportunity, to be an intern in– where else– but journalism.

One book she’s known for is No Logo. The book has made her known to readers all around the world. Klein is also well known for her 2004 documentary film The Take, which focused on the occupied factories of Argentina. It was directed by Avi Lewis, her husband. She is also known for her other books that come after. Avi was born to a family that was powerful. He has been in journalism and in films. They have a son together, Toma, born in 2012.

She had another popular book with The Shock Doctrine. It has been an in depth critical analysis regarding economics and the process of shocking a country into submission and mounting an extreme military takeover. The concept of this inspired and was made into a six minute companion film as well created by Jonas and Alfonso Cuaron. It was also the subject of a documentary that was full length made by Michael Winterbottom.

She made the best seller list several times. Klein has also been the 2016 recipient of a peace prize and several other awards. In addition to being a writer, Klein also is constantly popping up on national and global lists compiled of people who are considered influential thinkers that have been put together by various organizations and magazines. This woman is also very active and cares about the environment, as she also belongs to 350.org, a climate activist group.

No Logo is an early book by Naomi Klein.
