Natalie D Richards
Natalie D. Richards won her very first writing contest when she was in the second grade with a short story about Barbara Frances Bizzlefishes (who would not dare do the dishes). These days she writes about some awesome girls, broody boys, and all things that are creepy and dark.
She spent many years applying her writing abilities to amazingly boring business documents. Fortunately, she realized that she is much better at making things up, and has wrote for teens since.
When she isn’t shopping a manuscript or writing, she can most likely be found wading through the huge stacks of dog-eared paperback books that have taken her bedroom over.
As a writer, she tends to write by the seat of her pants without much of a clue as to where she is going with each scene, often with the entire book as a whole. Natalie finds this helps her maintain an authentic edge of suspense in all her work because she honestly has no idea just how or even if her characters will get out of whichever mess she has wrote them into.
In terms of editing, however, there are some methods she uses. She follows Hero’s Journey and believes this is a great way to evaluate a manuscript to check for any holes. She also uses Freytag’s Pyramid and sometimes the three-act structure. Natalie will also use things like timelines, coding, and collaging. When she gets stuck or is editing something difficult, she will try just about anything and she finds that each book ends up being a bit different.
Natalie lives with her techno-wiz husband, three wonderful kids, and a seventy-pound dust-mop that swears he’s the family dog.
Natalie’s debut novel, called “Six Months Later”, was released in the year 2013. Her work is from the young adult fiction genre.
“Six Months Later” is the first stand alone novel and was released in the year 2013. She has everything that she has ever wanted. Just not her memory.
Chloe fell asleep during study hall, it was in the middle of May. However, when she wakes up, there is snow on the ground and she is unable to remember the previous six months of her life.
Before, she was a mediocre student. Now, she is on track to be valedictorian and is getting recruited by some Ivy League colleges. Before, she never had a single chance with Blake the super jock. Now the guy is her boyfriend. Before, she and Maggie were impossible to separate. Now her best friend will not speak to her.
What happened to her? Remembering the truth might be more dangerous than she actually realizes.
Fans liked Chloe, finding her to be realistic, smart, and an entirely memorable character. The first chapter does a great job of hooking you into the novel, and by the second, some found themselves being lost in this world and this story.
“Gone Too Far” is the second stand alone novel and was released in the year 2015. Keeping secrets wrecked her life. However, the truth may just kill her.
Piper Woods cannot wait for the purgatory that is the senior year of high school to end. She skirts the fringes of the high school like a professional. Until she discovers a notebook with some mutilated photos and a list of student sins. She is certain the book is much too gruesome to actually be true, until popular and pretty Stella dies once a sex-tape goes viral. Everybody is certain that it was suicide, however, Piper recalls seeing Stella’s name in the book and starts suspecting something much worse happened.
Piper, who is drowning in some secrets she no longer wants to keep, has fears that are confirmed when she gets an anonymous text message that dares her to make things right. She just needs to pick a name, the name of somebody that deserves to be punished.
The who that is behind everything part of the story is well done and kept some readers on their toes. Piper is a likable character, and tries to do the right thing at all times. The novel flows well and takes a hard look at life in high school.
“My Secret to Tell” is the third stand alone novel and was released in the year 2015. Emerson May is “the good girl”, as she is the caring friend, the perfect daughter, and the animal shelter volunteer. However, her best friend’s brother breaks into her room, his hands covered in blood, she doesn’t call the police or scream. When Deacon smiles at her, she doesn’t want to be good.
The entire town believes that Deacon, a notorious troublemaker, is guilty of assaulting his dad. Only Emmie is aware of a secret that just might set him free. If she follows her heart, she might be trusting a killer.
You cannot always trust the boy next door.
Emmie is a great heroine, both sweet and a bit neurotic, and is somebody that you would genuinely want to be buddies with. Her banter with Deacon is tons of fun and natural. The mystery was great in this, too, and made readers turn the pages just as fast as they could.
“One Was Lost” is the fourth stand alone novel and was released in the year 2016. Deceptive. Damaged. Darling. Dangerous. Are these labels or just a warning? The answer might cost Sera everything.
Justice, revenge, and murder were not at all a part of the plan when Sera went off on her senior camping trip. Hiking through the woods is supposed to just be uneventful and safe.
One morning, the group wakes up confused, groggy, and they have words on their wrists. Darling, Deceptive, Damaged, and Dangerous. Their supplies have been destroyed. And half the group is gone. Their chaperone is now unconscious. Worst of all, they discover four dolls that are acting out a murder. These are dolls that are dressed just like they are.
It becomes clear all of a sudden that they are being hunted. With the one positive word on her wrist, Sera quickly falls under suspicion.
