Niel Bushnell is a renowned English artist and writer of science fiction, children’s books, and young adult stories. He is particularly famous for writing the Timesmith Chronicles series and the Arkship Saga series. Recently, he has started a new novel series called Tail of Tobin Artichoke, whose first book, Tobin Artichoke & Queen of Heaven, was released in 2018. Besides his writing interests, Bushnell has involvement in animation and illustration as well. He is co-founder and co-owner of the Qurios Entertainment animation studio. Author Bushnell was born on August 13, 1970, in Hartlepool, England. In his early days, he teamed up with his school friend named Gordon Fraser for creating a newspaper comic strip called The Funny Farm. They re-titled it later as Farmageddon. This comic strip ran continuously in Hartlepool Mail for a period of eighteen months. Later, Bushnell transformed the comic into an animation project.

Author Bushnell has been working in the animation department since 1994. The credits to his name include several popular roles in feature films, such as Lost In Space, Felidae, and Space Jam. In 2002, Bushnell laid the foundation of Qurios Entertainment in partnership with his beloved wife named Diane. This studio was founded in the home of the author. The credits for animation production by Qurios include Tracy Beaker Returns, The Dumping Ground, Hyperdrive Spooks, etc. Bushnell has served as the co-producer of a couple of animated Doctor Who episodes that released in 2013 on DVD. In 2018, he contributed new visual effects and animation for the 12th season of Doctor Who for its Blu-ray release. After this, Bushnell produced new animation, visual effects, and graphics for various other shows. Author Bushnell has served as the Academic Tutor of Animation & Games Art at Sunderland University before he joined The Northern Art School in 2019.

It is believed that he has written all his life, but his official writing started in 2009 with the novel called Sorrowline. When Bushnell submitted the initial 30 pages of the novel to New Writing North for its Northern Writers Award of 2011, it won the Northern Promise prize. Subsequently, the novel was picked by Andersen Press for publication in the UK. Heyne publication obtained the publishing rights in Germany, while Pensamento-Cultrix settled down with the Brazil release. In 2014, Sorrowline was included in the top 29 debut books for children and was also nominated for the Brandford Boase Award. Author Bushnell is quite satisfied with the amount of success he has received as an author. He wishes to achieve more success by writing many more exciting books in the coming years. Various critics have rated his novels well and reviewed them genuinely. Bushnell is grateful for all such critics and their appreciation. Even several fellow writers have praised Bushnell’s efforts in coming up with interesting stories. He hopes to continue doing the good work and entertain his fans with each new book in the future.

A successful novel series written by author Neil Bushnell is known as the Arkship Saga series. It is comprised of a total of 6 novels and 3 novellas released between 2017 and 2020. Every book of the series features a space opera story. Some of the essential characters depicted in the book include Wynn, Prince Halstead, Bara, Gofal, Scribe Mori, and a few others. A popular novel of this science fiction/space opera series is entitled ‘Arkship Alliance’. It was released in 2018 by the Magic Number Books publication. The novel opens by mentioning that the remaining human population faces the threat of war after the destruction of the Earth at the hands of a cataclysmic event called Fracture. This cataclysmic event also turned the whole solar system into dust. Those who have survived the destructive events have now taken shelter on arkships. The vast arkships drift through space’s Cluster, carrying the last human survivors. While drifting, the survivors do whatever they can to keep themselves alive in the ever-changing, hostile environment.

Wynn recovers from the war against the Draig House and looks to form new alliances with other arkships and the families on them. He thinks that this step is necessary if they want to live. However, the threat of an attack by the Draig fleet stills looms over them. Shortly after, Wynn realizes that he has landed himself in a more dangerous and new form of dilemma. With the shift in power balance across Cluster, a difficult situation arrives in front of Wynn in which he is required to choose either a peaceful life on the outskirts of Cluster or an all-out fight against the Draig House and its allies. This book is set against the backdrop of large arkships and warring families, political conspiracy mixed with a personal challenge. Bushnell has mentioned numerous action-packed sequences to keep the readers intrigued until the final page of the book.

Another intriguing installment of this space opera series is called ‘Arkship Conquest’. It was also published by Magic Number Books in 2018. Once again, it is shown that Fracture destroyed Earth and caused the solar system to turn to dust. Whoever survived the destruction is now drifting on an arkship. There are several arkships driting in Cluster and carrying survivors, who indulge in doing every possible thing to remain alive and deal with the hostile environment. The Draig House faces the threat of being torn apart if a civil war breaks out. But before it can happen, a known face returns from the past and works to unite all the disparate factions. Due to this, Prince Halstead is forced to form new alliances with his former enemies. As Prince Halstead begins to feel that his grip on the power is becoming weak, his desperation to keep his people safe grows too much.

As a result, he is put at odds with the ones he considers very close to him. And when the battle lines get drawn, the arkships cannot avoid the looming all-out war any longer. Prince Halstead makes up his mind to sacrifice everything close to his heart to save the lives of innocent people, most of whom are the survivors of the great destruction. This book is also set against a backdrop of vast arkships, warring families, personal challenges, and political conspiracies. Bushnell has filled this novel with intriguing twists & turns and fast-paced action sequences.
