Neil Strauss
Neil Strauss, also known by the pen names of Chris Powles and Style, is a ghostwriter, journalist, and author. He’s best known for his book describing his experiences in the seduction community, called “The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists”, where he tried to become a “pickup artist”.

After he graduated high school at the Latin School of Chicago in 1987, he went to Vassar College, before transferring and subsequently graduating from Columbia University in 1991 with a degree in Psychology.

While he was in school, he started his career writing for this avant garde magazine, called Ear, and edited his first book, “Radiotext(e), which is an anthology of radio related writings for Semiotext(e), a postmodern publisher.

Neil moved on to The Village Voice, where (before he became a critic and reporter) he took on tasks that ranged from fact checking, copyediting, and writing copy.

Jon Pareles invited Neil to become a music critic at The New York Times where he wrote the Pop Life column and front page stories about music censorship, radio payola, lost wax figures of country music stars, and Wal-Mart’s CD editing policies.

Then he was invited by Jann Wenner to become a contributing editor at Rolling Stone where he wrote cover stories about Orlando Bloom, Marilyn Manson, Kurt Cobain, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Tom Cruise, the Wu-Tang Clan, and Stephen Colbert.

He won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for his coverage of Kurt Cobain’s death for Rolling Stone and the profile that he wrote on Eric Clapton for The New York Times Arts & Leisure section. He’s also contributed to Spin, Details, Esquire, Entertainment Weekly, Maxim, and The Source.

He married Ingrid De La O (a model), whom he met in 2010 on August 31, 2013. In March of 2015, they had a child together. However by October of 2018, they had divorced.

“The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists” is a non-fiction book that was released in 2005. Hidden some place, in just about every major city in the world, there is this underground seduction lair. And inside of these lairs, men trade the most devastatingly effective techniques that have ever been invented in order to charm women. This isn’t fiction. These men actually exist. They live in houses together that are called Projects.

And Neil Strauss spent two years living with them, using the name Style to protect his real life identity. The result is one of the most controversial and explosive books of the entire year, and it’s guaranteed to change the lives of men and forever transform the way that women understand the opposite sex.

During his journey from AFC (average frustrated chump) to a PUA (pickup artist) to PUG (pickup guru), not only does he share scores of original seduction techniques but he’s also got some unforgettable encounters with celebrities. People like Paris Hilton, Heidi Fleiss, Tom Cruise, Courtney Love, and Brittney Spears. Then things begin getting very strange, and then passions lead to betrayals which lead to violence. This is the story of a man’s transformation from frog and into a prince, then into prisoner in a most unforgettable book.

“Emergency: This Book Will Save Your Life” is a non-fiction book that was released in 2009. Natural disasters, economic collapse, terrorist attacks, domestic crackdowns, riots, wars, starvation, and disease. What can you even do when it all hits the fan? You can learn to survive without the system and be self sufficient.

After the past few years of terror and violence, of religious and ethnic hatred, of hurricanes and tsunamis, and now about world financial meltdown, Strauss (like many of his generation) came to realize that, even in America, anything is possible. However rather than just sit back and watch helplessly, he chose to do something about it. So he spent three years traveling through a country which has lost its sense of safety, and he equipped himself with the necessary tools to save his loved ones and himself from a pretty uncertain future.

Neil’s white knuckled journey through today’s heart of darkness, while sets off to move his whole life offshore, test his abilities out in the wild, and remake himself as this plane flying, gun toting, government defying survivor. It is a story of crippling doubts and paranoid fantasies, about dangerous cult leaders and shady lawyers, about survivalist superheroes and billionaire gun nuts, about heroes, weirdos, and just ordinary citizens that are going off the grid. This is one man’s story about a dangerous world and how to stay alive in it.

Before the next disaster hits, you are gonna want to read this book. You will also want to do everything that it suggests. Because tomorrow does not come with a guarantee.

“The Truth: An Uncomfortable Book About Relationships” is a non-fiction book that was released in 2015. Neil became famous to millions of readers all around the globe after “The Game”, a slyly instructive and funny account about how he transformed himself from an insecure, scrawny nerd and into the ultra successful and ultra confident “pickup artist” known as Style. This book jump started the international “seduction community”, and it made Neil a household name (either notorious or revered) among single women and men alike.

However the experience that came from writing “The Game” transformed him into a man that could have everything a man wants: the ability to date or have casual sex with just about any woman he met. The results were rather heady, for sure. However they conditioned to also view the world as this sort of constant parade of opportunity, women, and sex, with long term commitment and intimacy taking a back seat.

Up until he met the one woman that forced him to pick between the parade and herself. The decision was not just difficult, but it was wrenching. It made him to dive deep into his own past, to face not just the moral dimensions of his pickup lifestyle, yet also this wrenching mystery back in his childhood which shaped the man he became.

It sent him into extremes of behavior which exposed exactly how conflicted his life had become. This made him question everything that he knew about himself, and about how women and men live with and without one another. And he would never be the same.
