Nicole Helm is a contemporary romance and mystery author best known for writing novels about characters that live far away from civilization that neighbors are not a problem. As a child, Helm grew up with fantasies of becoming an author and spent most of her waking days with her nose in a book. However, professional authorship did not come easy as she spent several years in a range of careers before she got married and with two kids, she quit her job to become a stay at home mother. With more time than she knew what to do with, she decided to try her hand at writing and wrote her debut novel in 2014. A lifelong citizen of the Midwest, there is nothing she loves better than being in wide-open spaces with no one around for miles. She has asserted that this is what builds the stalwart spirit that is needed to till the land. The same can be said of her characters who love to inhabit similar spaces, some of them very similar to the environment that the author was born and raised in. When she is not writing her novels, she can be found sightseeing and hiking out in nature or dreaming about owning a barn. She currently lives with her husband and children in O’Fallon, Missouri.
As one of the most popular contemporary romance authors on the scene today, Nicole Helm has made a name for herself writing stories punctuated with comedy and a lot of tension. There is nothing she enjoys more than penning narratives about handsome men who go after strong alpha women who do not make it easy. She has said that her biggest influence and inspiration comes from reading “friends to loves” stories since such stories develop an emotional context. This makes the process of trying to maneuver the deeper feelings and friendship even more interesting as each person tries to overcome the fear of losing the friendship. Many are the times that she writes about fake relationships, which have people pretending to be in love only for something else to develop. Nicole has stated that it is so much fun creating such scenes especially when the two realize that it is not all pretend play and they may be developing feelings for each other. While the sexual and romantic scenes come with the usual steamy moments, Helm combines realistic interactions and the hilarious and awkward to make some fascinating stories.
Nicole Helm wrote her debut novel “Flight Risk,’ the first of the “Antiques in Flight” series in 2014 and has never looked back since. She has since gone on to write more than thirty-five novels in the “Antiques in Flight,” “Bluff City,” “Farmer’s Market,” “Big Sky Brides,” “Big Sky Cowboys,” “Stone Cold,” “Gallagher & Ivy,” “Mile High Romance,” “Navy SEAL Cowboys,” “Carsons & Delaneys,” “Carsons & Delaneys: Battle Tested,” “Bad Boys of Last Stand,” and “Badlands Cops” series. He is also the author of several omnibus series, collections and had co-written series such as the “Montana Born Brides,” “Montana Born Rodeo,” “Firefighters of Montana,” and “Tactical Crime Division: Traverse City” series. However, while he has become one of the most prolific authors in the suspense thriller and contemporary romance genre, he is best known for his “A Badlands Cops” series which combines romance with a suspense story with relatable protagonists that make for an intriguing narrative. The novels are an exploration of the theory that children can escape the clutches of a murderous and ruthless gang leader who is their father.
Helm’s “South Dakota Showdown,” the first novel of the “Badlands Cops” series of novels is the story of Liza and Jamison. They had been old flames and while they might hate each other anyone can see that they are old flames. However, the twist in the story is that Jamison is trying to keep Liza away from her father who runs the Sons a South Dakota Gang and does not really hate her. He had rescued The Wyatt brothers and their sister Liza but Liza could not help herself and kept going back. Fifteen years later, she is informed that she had gone back to save her sisters just like he saved his brothers. Saving her sisters is a dangerous mission and she could die in the attempt but she is ready to even die for them. Her sister is held by the gang and she cannot find her unless she works with Jamison. He distrusts her but he needs him if she is to get back her four-year-old sister. The result is an intense cat and mouse game as they try to outwit Wyatt and the Sons gang while love starts fomenting once again. But with several girls in jeopardy, they have to put their desires aside and focus on saving them from becoming victims of a sex trafficking ring.
“Covert Complication” by Nicole Helm reintroduces the characters from the first novel of the “Badlands Cops” series. They are still fighting to bring down Ace Wyatt, the family patriarch and leader of the Sons Gang in South Dakota. Cody had managed to put the man behind bars in the debut but now he s back and he regrets not finishing him off when he had the chance. Cody is a stoic but everything in his life is turned upside down when Nina his old flame comes back into town with her daughter Brianna. He is still angry with Nina who had left town and him nearly seven years ago and forgiveness is the last thing on his mind. But then she reveals a few facts about their father he never knew anything about and he might just change his mind about her. Ace is behind bars but that does not mean that the Sons of the Badlands gang is not active. It is up to Nina and Cody to find a way top protect Brianna who Ace wants most of all. They have the help of Duke, Wyatt, and family and together they might just be successful.
“Backcountry Escape” by Nicole Helm is the story of Felicity and Gage. At the open of the novel, Gage has come to her rescue though she loves to handle her own business. But she has been framed by Ace his father who is pulling strings from prison as he instructs the Sons of the Badlands on what he wants to be done. Gage is a dreamy and gorgeous man that is jokester that has been in love with Felicity for years. He sees her for who she is even if no one in her family acknowledges that she has grown. She is now a badass park ranger stationed in the Badlands and while she is not one to be scared off by anyone, she knows that no one messes with Ace’s business without serious consequences. When her best comes back to haunt her new life, everything changes as nothing now makes any sense. The only remaining constant is that Ace is still following her every move. She is now framed for murder and she has to rely on her former alliances and her family if she is to stay out of prison. She has to stay out as prison will never be safe especially with Ace running a lot of schemes from inside.
